Good God. Hard to believe it's 34 (now 36 almost) years ago. I recall that this song took off like a rocket in 1986, and felt kind of like a standard all by itself. And oh yes. Any guess as to which "garment" that might have been, aimed so perfectly for such a soft landing precisely on that mic stand? The heavenly bliss of live.
1:02-1:04 Get a load of bassist Michael Steele’s reaction while singing her verse after someone throws a garment from the audience onto her mic stand. And she doesn’t miss a beat. Priceless! 🤣 A true professional. Love her! 😃
Probably the best female rock group of all time. They all sing and play their own instruments. To this day as seniors they still look pretty wear mini skirts and sound great.
Not only where they talented, they were total babes and all of therm had stage presence. Things that many singers don't have. So glad they were a part of the soundtrack of my life
Yea, she has grown on me over the decades. I was smitten first by Vicki, then Susanna, now I appreciate Micki after learning more about her musical career. She been through it, dealing with divas and a lowlife manager with The Runaways, then playing for various groups, then dealing with more divas and close knit sisters in The Bangles. She says she struggled with demands and pressures of touring. With her disappearance, you wonder if she has had bi-polar issues to deal with.
Yeah, when I was a spotty teen I was all about Suzy Hoffs, but it's only after revisiting the band recently I realised how bloody gorgeous and talented Steele is.
I know exactly what you all feel - I was 16 to 26 during the 80s. The 80s were a cultural phenomenon - the music and the artists were hot. We had a blast during the go-go 80s; and when we went out we went out in style. Both men and women were dressed well.
She’s right up front. Playing the tambourine. 🤣 Truth is, the producer replaced her with a drum machine in the studio so she never played the song live, she always came out front and played tambourine or something.
@@djp928 Speaking of playing the tambourine, you should check out Stevie Nicks joining Bob Welch on 'Ebony Eyes'. No one ever had more fun playing a tambourine. There's a clip from a stadium show in '78 and from The Roxy in '81.

This song illustrates one of the Bangles most, IMO, underappreciated strengths. Yes, Susanna became sort of the "face" of the Bangles later, but any one of them could lead a song and the others would provide perfect, harmonious backing vocals. Even though Debbie doesn't get to sing on this one, the lead going between the other three demonstrates it.
I've always loved how rocked out this performance is. Lead guitarist Vicki Peterson especially makes it that way. The Bangles' hit Simon & Garfunkel cover "Hazy Shade of Winter" is another of their great straight-ahead rock tracks that they also sound awesome doing live.

Wow, I cannot believe that this concert took place almost 30 years ago. I was a Bangles fan since their “Different Light” album came out. Great performances! The managers and producers tried to make a pop group out of them - but they were a pure rock band!!!
Exactly. When you go under the surface you discover that "Eternal Flame" or "Manic Monday" kind of misrepresented the Bangles' sound. They were a guitar-based rock band!
It's unfortunate that the record producer didn't like Debbi's singing and cut her role out of the song. In another video Debbi discusses how she has horrible memories of WLAE and it's the band's least favorite.
