A amazing street performer, you should hear this kid play the drums, he was awesome, I took this ramdomly while i was down the town (Karl Johan ,Oslo, Norway)
A little bit bro. I love to play and have a few mates that play as well, but other than that I just know the names of each individual drum, but not ALL of them.
That's a good drummer! Keeping rithym, and not that 3 year old kids that their parents say they're prodigies cuz they do fast fills. But it's sad to see this type of guys in the street. He should be in a band, not begging money in the street...
What about Borknagar (already left), Leprous and Rendezvous Point? ;) Leprous being one of the most successful metal bands right now, and oh btw, he also won a drumming award, World Champion. ;) Goes in world tours, have a Dj and Drums duo very successful in Norway and tours giving clinics as well. Right now on tour with Rendezvous Point.
look up his band Rendezvous Point /watch?v=K8GTB3VKdi4 and search following: Leprous coal tour 2013, he was step in drummer on this tour. here are 2 vids from the tour /watch?v=ITCpLNdzjts /watch?v=4TptfKCw0ec
Its sad to see people who think that every street drummer who can play 16th notes is amazing and the best. Because the people who do work hard and play really well, are in groups made for drumming called an Indoor Percussion group. These people have done things and have played things that are unimaginable.
I dunno how long have you been drumming, but he's almost perfect. The speed he has reached is because he started practising very slow to get there. In a studio he will sound amazing.
You may just need better speakers, although at times his accents are less pronounced, they're there. I can hear them, but that's because music is my life so I invested in some REALLY good equipment for my puter. ^_^ Not perfect, but very good nonetheless.
***** Whether the piece is hard or not is not the question. I've played pieces this hard, harder, and even easier! *Gasp* It takes quite a bit of practice to be that CLEAN (perfect) with his speed drumming. Think of a really good gospel drummer that does his part really well, so well in fact that he doesn't miss a beat... Does his perfect performace fall short of being perfect just because it's easy? I didn't think so... Have a good day with your irrelevant information that you just contributed. lolz
Renegadia23 It's far from perfect lol. He's good but there are a lot of imprecisions in his solo. And all his beats are easy to any drummer that has been playing for a few years and has a decent groove.
not really if you think about it because of the views more people who know where this is will go down there and he might get more money. and it all depends if this channel has advertisements which it dosent
He's not a street performer anymore... He's been touring the world with his bands (Leprous, Borknagar and maybe some other...). This kid (Baard) is AMAZING: ua-cam.com/video/RR3WGXCC24I/v-deo.html
I just love the know-it-alls in the comments. This is Baard Kolstad at age 18. Nowadays he is drumming for ICS Vortex, Borknagar, Leprous and Rendezvous Point, making him one of the most active drummers in the norwegian prog scene. But hey, "not amazing", "no musicality", "boring", "standard"... Jerks.
I'm sick of kids playing rudimentary drum beats - complimented with straight-forward fills - being labeled "amazing". Yes he's got talent and deserves a thumbs up, but this is not to be fawned over. Look up Dennis Chambers, Marvin "smitty" Smith and Steve Gadd for an introduction, then go from there
What's amazing is that people think this is amazing. For serious drumset playing, see the best of Buddy Rich (his 1970 greensleeves youtube is a good example), David Garibaldi with Tower of Power, and all the drummers with James Brown, to name just a few. People don't have a clue really, maybe because so few drummers have been seen since the drum machine was invented? But I believe real drumming, and real performing on all instruments, is slowly making a comeback. Good drummers do two things very well: they use syncopation and accents effortlessly, and they make the drums talk, tell a story.
John Campbell I could imitate him, but wouldn't want to. I'd prefer to continue trying my best to follow the styles of Garibaldi, Buddy Rich, Harvey Mason, Steve Gadd, people like that. For most drummers coming up in the 1970s, these were our main teachers. Unfortunately many drummers today have not opened their ears to that kind of playing, and I really don't know why. More good drummers: Stewart Copeland, who plays with a subtly distinctive sound; Paul Wertico, who set a feathery background for many years with Pat Metheny Group; Winston Grennan, innovative reggae drummer, and Carly Barrett, Bob Marley's drummer, who together created a whole new way of playing that has spread around the world. I guess the drums, unlike other instruments, are easy to play well enough to "wow" people on the street, but that's more athletics than music. Thanks for your question. It was helpful for me.
Trek Ryder you are as pretentious as they come, friend. I being a 26 year old drummer, have heard of these greats, and respect them on a real powerful level, however, I am able to recognize talent that doesn't fall into the guidelines of "as good as the best jazz drummer in the world, and matches the subtly of this and that..." Playing the drums, and instruments in general is not about who can be the most technical. I admire your taste is music, but to say this kid, who looks about 15 by the way, is not talented and that everyone in the street is uncultured swine, is just ignorant. I'm not going to change your mind, and that's ok, but to belittle someone, who clearly works hard at something they love, is not what music is all about. I'll leave you to your original vinyls and narrow minded view of music. - internet served.
Kuruma kYubi Yes really. Any drummer can bang on drums fast...it's about playing thoughtfully and musically. This is the crap you hear at Guitar Center on any Saturday afternoon.
pratt6767 ye well this dude is educated out the ass, and has been playing drums for the majority of his life, and he was crowned world champion in 2012 Roland World championship or something. so ye don't come online and try to show off because you are jealous (i don't usually pull the jealousy card, but man you jellin' hard) Just sayin' i went to school with this dude, and he is incredibly musical.
Rasmustheforest This kid could be my grand son...I just want him to try harder. I've been playing longer than you've been alive, and I've played all over the world with groups, some of whom you may even know...I've played for world leaders and presidents. Before you spot off, you really need to think twice before clicking "reply". It's not music, and he needs to work on playing musically, not just banging on drums for tips.
You know, you see a lot of these street musicians and they are all talented and make you think wow thats amazing, but this guy actually went into another realm for me. He switched it up, he was creative and truly truly amazed me with his speed and precision. Worthy of more than just a couple coins, I would easily drop a 20 in that tin if not more for that concert he pulled off.
Baard is Great, i just wish he would, do some more Drum Solo's for 2017, iv'e looked every were. on youtube. for some updated Drum Solo's. from Baard Kolstad, & all i find is know more Awesome Drum Solo's, from the one & only Baard Kolstad for how old he would be now. Your the Best from Norway. & i really enjoy your playing on Drum's :-) :-).
He's excellent for being as young as he is. He's definitely put his time in practicing. Although I couldn't help but snicker thinking, "How do you tell when it's a drummer at the door? The knocking gets faster."
He's unbelievable... whoever says he's not is because jealousy, He'll be one of the best in the world soon. At some point he does a beat written by Mike Portnoy in Scene from a Memory. Dream Theater.
This guy is now the drummer of Leprous! They're one of the best in progressive experimental rock.
finally i found a street perfomance video showing a really talented guy. i can die now
He had more people there than my band had at last 3 gigs. Ouch.
Take you band to the street then. !
I bet he's not a street performer his parents just got sick of the noise so he got kicked out to practice lol
lmao
Street performances are awesome.
I've always wanted to be a drummer so I always use drums on GarageBand..
Baard Koldstad?

Looks like his Gretch set, i think it's him.

To see this young drummer with Phil Collins & Chester Thompson in a three way drum feast would be excellent!

Are you politically correcting me? lol
russionanacho sex doesn't matter
^how do you think you were born
+Maycontainnuts they meant gender doesn't matter
Nothing particularly special. Amazing? Well, no, he's just not. Quite quick, but too dull for a street routine.
look up Dylan Elise bro. See what you think New Zealand/
samoan drummer.
Do you know anything about drums?
A little bit bro. I love to play and have a few mates that play as well, but other than that I just know the names of each individual drum, but not ALL of them.
I was talking to the other dude...
That kid isn't anything "amazing" He's alright, the guy is right, it's nothing special.
Dylan IS pretty sick!! I still cannot get over the first solo I saw of his (at the jazz festival in N.Z.) when he was only 16.
Brilliant, well done kid!
Amazing!
Was this before or after Kenny got bitten on the testicle? And where are the rest of the Millers?
That's a good drummer! Keeping rithym, and not that 3 year old kids that their parents say they're prodigies cuz they do fast fills. But it's sad to see this type of guys in the street. He should be in a band, not begging money in the street...
+MrYunqueman Who says hes begging for money?
this guy is in a band his name is baard kolstad look him up he's on fb to

What about Borknagar (already left), Leprous and Rendezvous Point? ;) Leprous being one of the most successful metal bands right now, and oh btw, he also won a drumming award, World Champion. ;) Goes in world tours, have a Dj and Drums duo very successful in Norway and tours giving clinics as well. That's fucked up, I don't get, kid should be on tour somewhere!! Com'on

Its sad to see people who think that every street drummer who can play 16th notes is amazing and the best. Because the people who do work hard and play really well, are in groups made for drumming called an Indoor Percussion group. True, but Terry Bozzio knows what he's doing. Saw him in a drum clinic in Houston also. Didn't Simon Phillips double pedal also? I can't remember?
omg..Zombies are more of a croud
+Merijn van keulen Couldn't hear a crowd over the drums anyway. ;)
This did somethin weird with my ears.
Neil R did it make your back tingle
He's good. But there is more than speed to drumming.
I dunno how long have you been drumming, but he's almost perfect.
The speed he has reached is because he started practising very slow to get there.
In a studio he will sound amazing.

I realize now this sounded like I didn't like it. On the contrary, I did, I'm just saying "amazing" may be a little bit of a strong word. ;)
***** Whether the piece is hard or not is not the question. You earned more in this Video than he did live out there .. Unfair .. isn't it ?
not really if you think about it because of the views more people who know where this is will go down there and he might get more money. and it all depends if this channel has advertisements which it dosent
Dog eat dog world...
He's not a street performer anymore... He's been touring the world with his bands (Leprous, Borknagar and maybe some other...). This kid (Baard) is AMAZING: ua-cam.com/video/RR3WGXCC24I/v-deo.html

Watch a drummer name Chris Turner. It's like this kid, but on steroids.
Jerks.
My goodness people are easily impressed.
His name is Baard Kolstad.
And he is the drummer for the Black Metal Band Borknagar
I do like how he used different rudiments throughout the performance instead of just doing the same thing repeatedly. Very interesting.
Wow
Not quite my tempo.
I would bet that you cant even to a simple 6 8 beat.
fuck your tempo
hes a kid!! enjoy it and just listen! why try to compare It with anyone else??
exactly...just beat them as fast as you can so nobody can see wth are you doing...make it sound complicated...BAM! amazing drummer
This was uploaded in 2009, I wonder how much better this kid has become.

Some of the best performers started in the street. But his playing is not "amazing."
