Dude thank you so much. I was just telling a friend that I’m afraid to push anything because I was never taught how to fall properly. The strengthening and falling exercises are so crucial. Thank you!!
The first time I tried a drop-in on a regular skateboard I did not commit enough, and sprained my ankle badly... Imagine your foot is the hour hand on a clock, and if you look down it is usually pointing to 12 o'clock, well when I got to the bottom of the quarterpipe, mine was at 5 o'clock with all my weight on top of it. So drop-ins have always been a huge mental block for me. The extra height, chunky wheels, and swivelly trucks on a surfskate just made it that much scarier. I tried it for the first time last night and nailed it! Did it on the 3foot quarterpipe, and the 4 foot bowl. It actually wasn't really any worse than a regular skateboard. You and Jon Bishop posting videos about it encouraged me to finally go for it, thanks!
We appreciate you Shane for demonstarting all the falls. Started surf skating in August and my goal by the end of 2020 is to drop into a bowl, still working on it!
Hey man thank you so much, I‘m literally learning surfskating through your videos. Everytime I dont have the guts to try something new I watch your vids and boom! It works
I really appreciate the time you took for this. Thank you for including falls, and how to brace for falls also. My wrists have been pretty weak and I’ve been wondering how I can strengthen them, so thank you also for putting some of those exercises in.
Really love the exercise tips you provide in the videos too! Would love to get your advice on a full workout routine to help strengthen for surfskating. I'm an overweight dude and I feel like it gets in the way a lot of the time when skating!
Hello @Shane. Thank you for the video. Finally i started to so my first drop ins and you were a great help. It would be great to have a tutorial about how to get out of the bowl as well :)
Very nice video. Just one correction... When you are falling dont bend your foward leg to make the roll. This can make you hurt your knee. Is preferible to keep the leg straight and try to stand with your front foot as in judo style.
This is a great tutorial! Thank you! I especially appreciate the advise about practicing to fall! I have been struggling to get myself commit to dropping in because i am afraid to fall ... but i am sure that if i practice falling a few times i’ll have the confidence to commit and drop in well!
Encore un super tuto Shane, merci ! Et très bonnes idées que la préparation de chute et le réveil musculaire. C'est pas quelque chose qu'on voit assez souvent 👏.
Looks like your digging that Space Skate! Great info, I’ve been working on my drop in, definitely need padded up though as I’ve had a couple scary moments trying. Can’t wait to try the “touch the board nose” tip next time I’m at the park!
SHANE, I got a Slac on my wrist and I cannot put weight on my wrist. I advice anyone to dont put weight o you wrist when falling, the wrist is not made for that, even if you have a strong wrist. The right way to fall forward to ben your arm and put the weight in your all arm
Hey bro. Sorry to hear about that. Yes you are right in saying the best way to fall is to try to disperse the force over a larger surface area, that is, whole arm instead of just the hands; and whole body instead of just one limb. But the same time, we have to prepare for worst case scenario
@@shanelai2515 well you are right but since I cannot put weight on my wrist yet I love to skateboard I learn to fall the right way even in the worst scenario now it comes to me instinctively. There is just onr thing I cannot do often and is bert slide frontside. Keep up the good work with your video
The more you practise at a certain height, the more it feels comfortable. Then do small increments from that. Always small steps just outside of your comfort zone
Also guys make sure you lean forward and don’t let yourself fall backwards when dropping in. Your brain will want you to lean back so you don’t fall, but you gotta fight it
Shane Lai Would be great over-emphasise the importance of this, especially for new skaters. Even wearing it yourself to model? Experienced skater died at local park two weeks ago, not wearing helmet. Young skaters think it’s cool not to wear protective gear...

Yes! The strengthening exercises have always been part of my prep specially when attempting something new.
Glad you like it 🤙🤙
We demand a skating workout routine video, Shane! Pretty please!
Oh great idea !
Hey, I made this video when I got bored of the usual home workouts and snow ruined my skate session: ua-cam.com/video/4jTjXG9pOAw/v-deo.html

Oh no, so sorry to hear about that! That's the thing though, there is no protective gear against ankle sprain 😜
Glad the videos help mate 🤙

Hope you get it soon 🤙
How did it go?
Thanks so much for this video! As a beginner this is really helpful. I wasn't sure if dropping in on a surfskate was possible. Cheers!
Tomorrow I will try my first drop in on a surfskate. If I succeed, I will come back here to say, thank you Shane!
Thank you.
Not only ideas o n how to learn this technique but you offer workout routines!
Muchas gracias por los consejos, mañana me iré a un skatepark para comenzar a practicar mis primeros drop in con mi Swelltech

Merci Clément !

Keep going Dingle!
You are a perfect tutor
Good vids. You should wear a lapel mic for audio
What difference in spiceskate (in video) vs smoothstar 77 ?
Obrigado irmão.
The lil sausage at the end of this vdo is so cute!
😁😁😁
Gonna do some squats now. Homie doesn't skip leg day at all.
Thanks for the vids Shane. Where is this skatepark? Looks like a good one for surfskate.
Fawkner skatepark
@@shanelai2515 ok cool, thanks. Do you do private lessons? If so, I’m intersted.
Merci beaucoup, mec!
Thanks a lot
thanks, helped a lot!
My mindset is my biggest challenge... especially at higher quarters. Any recommendations? cheers

Very Nice!!
Very helpful 👍😃😎
How soft are those wheels? What do you recommend?
Those wheels are 70mm 78a
Depends on the surface.
70mm 78a will be very grippy on concrete and won't release easily for snaps.
Muito obrigado!!!
Which skate park are you using? Is it in Melbourne?
Yes Melbourne. This was filmed in Fawkner
Also guys make sure you lean forward and don’t let yourself fall backwards when dropping in. Your brain will want you to lean back so you don’t fall, but you gotta fight it
What size board do you use?
i broke my ancle because of a surfskate drop...
take this video very seriously :)
Oh sorry to hear about that! Hope you'll nail the drop in soon
🙏
Beat one on the internet
Thank you

Yes. Always wise to wear them 😊

You so handsome ❤️❤️
spotter much bigger and stronger than you lmao
