  • Case 268: Colleen Stan
** Content Warning: Extreme sexual violence, captivity **
    [Part 2 of 2]
As the years of abuse, torture and confinement to the bed box continued for Colleen Stan, she remained paralysed by her fear of The Company. But one thing changed. Her captors, Cameron and Janice Hooker, slowly started granting Colleen small privileges, including time outside of their Red Bluff trailer. Did this mean they were finally going to set their slave free?

Janice blamed Colleen for the breakdown of her marriage to that POS? She's every bit as sick as Cameron and should be behind bars too. 🤬

In some way I kinda understand Janice saying it was Colleen's fault her marriage fell apart.
There was a rivalry between them two.
And in effect caused a wedge between Cameron and Janice.
However, Janice couldn't take the abuse from Cameron so enlisted the "services" of a slave to take her place.
By agreeing to this janice brought it on herself...

It's unbelievable that Colleen was punished worse after she asked her horrible captor how he thought her father would feel about him hurting her and other women. He got angry with her for accidentally kicking his partner, but it's disgusting that he says he would kill anybody who hurt his baby daughters but Never accepted that someone could kill him for hurting their daughter. What a psychopathic delusional monster!

To be an armchair psychologist, he sounds like he's incredibly incredibly self-conscious and has self-esteem issues from how he was described. If I had to guess, I would say t he thought of being opposed by another man when asked about her father, set him off and made him more self-conscious.

They won't let him out. And if they do, it will be when he's very old.
My sister was killed by a gang member who was only 16 years old. They gave him 40 years to life. He's had one parole hearing and I attended the hearing. I thought the parole board might let him out because he said all the right things. They denied his parole.
After 40 years and being so young, he's institutionalized.
I truly think he's remorseful because my sister wasn't the initial target. She just happened to be there. So, I think this dude is dying in prison.

That last comment of blame Janice made to Colleen goes to show how irrational, selfish and depraved she was. Blaming her for wrecking her marriage. Cameron probably still had ways to contact her, keep in touch and keep poisioning her mind. Or maybe she just regretted ending up as a single mother, shunned by the community and raising her daughters in semi-poverty and blamed all that on Colleen all on her own. Either way, I'm tempted not to give her slack, but then again, if it weren't for her, Colleen might never have escaped alive.

I think its important to acknowledge that while Janice's treatment of Colleen is completely unacceptable, and that we can't excuse her for that, I think it is very telling that she met Cameron as a child when he was already an adult. It's a textbook case of grooming. He used her in very similar ways to how he used Colleen, she was conditioned from childhood onwards to be loyal to him and it doesn't surprise me she kept going back and forth on whether she should leave him or not. He abused and conditioned her, he took advantage of her naivete and her need for connection. It's important to hold people accountable for their actions, even if they are a victim themselves, but I also do feel sympathy for her circumstances.

@teveson8256 no I still don't excuse her. Not to go along with it for that long. Maybe she didn't have great guidance as a child to have been allowed to meet this man at 15. But she could see with her eyes, hear with her ears what her abd her husband were causing a young woman to endure. She could have tried to get help. She was also warped, regardless whether she had been groomed or not. She only thought of herself. I'm glad Colleen stopped contact with her, because she came to recognise the woman was in fact toxic. And yet she claimed to have a faith in God??! People you're excusing will protect a cat but watch a human suffer!

as someone who has experienced abusive relationships of all kinds and sexual assault, i have NO sympathy for janice. she started as a victim, but the moment she became complicit in her husbands crimes and allowed those things to happen she lost all right to sympathy. she's a horrible person and a horrible mother, keeping her daughters around such a vile man. yes, she set colleen free and left her husband eventually, but it should NOT have been necessary for her mother to ask the question of "what if he hurt your children?". being an ignorant bystander to crimes this severe makes her just as guilty.

Obviously, I can’t imagine what the situation was like, or how things were, and of course Colleen was being psychologically conditioned by Cameron and Janice with their warnings of “the company”. Further control was engrained into her mind when she would be driven to & left in isolated environments overnight, or forced to run miles, swim around the lake, etc. Nonetheless… when Cameron left Colleen overnight in the snowy woods, and told her to stay until he returned… tbh, I’d have been gone at that point, or climbed up a tree and hid myself super well. Really, that would’ve been my fight or flight moment, right there, especially considering he didn’t show up again until sunrise, when she could hear the distant sound of morning hunters’ guns.. Yes, it’s dangerous to walk through the wilderness in the dark, but I would’ve done SOMETHING. I know she was psychologically being manipulated, but apparently even she “toyed” with the idea that the “company” was a lie…

This sounds metaphorical in that it's sadomasochistic acts are things to amplify the torture some of us go through in plain sight. I've tried to get help but get dismissed as the experience seems illogical and impossible at a man my size who seems "normal" ,and I am, thank God. I just wait for these people with money who finance these games and use medical devices to control someone for money making possibilities. I pray every day for the safety of others who I was and have been told that are also victims. They have been able to move on and so have I , mentally but feel like I have been tossed away and no one cares about me because I'm an ex police officer who was exposed to radiation in 1995, and twice in 2018 I Arizona. Now I am like a Geiger counter in a way, tasting radiation in moisture in the air. Please if you know anything help me so I can move on. Stop these animals who treat us as a piece of useful (whatever adjective you'd like to insert here). Id like to insert a loyal, loving genius who will show some they should've believed in God and not mocked his creation. rd

I promise that there is an interesting point to this comment. And additionally, I REEEEEAAAAALLLLLLLY want to know if anybody agrees with me on this...)...
Let's all pretend, just for a minute, that I am- hands down, and with no close contender- the absolute top-performing, most watched across all demographics, in demand content creator/ narrator... K? At around the 38 minute mark, it wouldn't matter if I did 100 takes or more; there is zero chance I would be able to successfully record that part of the piece without noticeably crying through it. Not a chance. In fact, most likely; I would be 100% not understandable, full-on "sup-supping", ugly crying, and very very likely- even constant runny nose sniffling (not just lightly weeping or something). Then my hypothetical career will be completely demolished. Serious props to this absolutely impressive, incredible creator.

I glad Colleen got justice and the company didn't exist..
Cameron was a twisted F if you ask me.
    ..
I can understand why Janice would think the break up of their marriage was down to Colleen.
    ..
Because Colleen was the slave replacement instead of janice suffering the abuse.
So Janice brought the whole love triangle thing
(if you want to call it that) onto herself..
    ..
Although a bit naive, i agree with some comments and feel Janice was an assesory to Cameron's torture acts.. so should have seen justice as well..
    ..
I do think Colleen had an opportunity to escape when she was allowed to work.. she could've called the cops or when she visited her family ...
    ..
7 years of torture is too much for most people to endure..
    ..
I'm also quite surprised Colleen moved on got a degree and had kids..
    ..
Intimacy with another male must have been difficult..
    ..
Still, this showed what a strong women she was..
    ..
I almost quit the first episode as this was a tough one to listen too.
But I had to see what happened to Colleen in the end.
    ..
So so relieved she made it out ok.
