- Case 268: Colleen Stan
** Content Warning: Extreme sexual violence, captivity **
[Part 2 of 2]
As the years of abuse, torture and confinement to the bed box continued for Colleen Stan, she remained paralysed by her fear of The Company. But one thing changed. Her captors, Cameron and Janice Hooker, slowly started granting Colleen small privileges, including time outside of their Red Bluff trailer. Did this mean they were finally going to set their slave free?

If only Cameron had applied himself to Carpentry, then thrown himself into a wood chipper.
Ha ha ha.....you "nailed" it!!!!!! Lol
good solution
Perfect
Feet first. Not that punk head first stuff. This case is all the negative things. 😐
Janice blamed Colleen for the breakdown of her marriage to that POS? She's every bit as sick as Cameron and should be behind bars too. 🤬
In some way I kinda understand Janice saying it was Colleen's fault her marriage fell apart.
There was a rivalry between them two.
And in effect caused a wedge between Cameron and Janice.
However, Janice couldn't take the abuse from Cameron so enlisted the "services" of a slave to take her place.
By agreeing to this janice brought it on herself...
@@stuartd9741 that sounds ever so much like 'blame the victim'
@@user-kz4ke8mg4ras she should be blamed for even suggesting that
@@user-kz4ke8mg4r well you yourself suggest Janice should be behind bars also...
Which I agree.
Bit Janice is also a victim too.. of naivety,
..
I'm just trying to understand the relationship dynamics of all three of them...
Why would she even WANT to still be married to him? Plus he's in jail? She should be in there with him.
I can’t believe she survived this.
Same here. That’s how good of a brainwash maniac he was that she feared escaping plenty of times & open opportunities. It’s sad 😔 but shows she somehow had strength to last that long.
Seriously, my brain and body would have both broken Much sooner. Probably within days tbh. She is SO strong and I’m so happy she was able to get out on the other side of this nightmare.
It absolutely begs belief
Her strong Christian beliefs apparently.
Put yourself in her position, you wouldn't dare escape. It's not that he was good at brainwashing..he was a pathetic excuse of a man..but he had her at his mercy and tortured her over years...she was open to suggestion and manipulation. He probably got off on that...she didn't know who to trust
It's unbelievable that Colleen was punished worse after she asked her horrible captor how he thought her father would feel about him hurting her and other women. He got angry with her for accidentally kicking his partner, but it's disgusting that he says he would kill anybody who hurt his baby daughters but Never accepted that someone could kill him for hurting their daughter. What a psychopathic delusional monster!
To be an armchair psychologist, he sounds like he's incredibly incredibly self-conscious and has self-esteem issues from how he was described. If I had to guess, I would say t he thought of being opposed by another man when asked about her father, set him off and made him more self-conscious.
So in the end Janice blamed Colleen for everything, instead of blaming her obviously messed up in the head husband. Janice should have been locked away right alongside Cameron. I'm glad to hear Colleen is thriving and I hope the rest of her life is filled with happiness and love.
i don't know if it's stockholm syndrome but she's gone whack as heck
You really did this story justice. I’ve heard it before, but never before as well laid out. Thank you.
Such a heartbreaking story. I can’t help but wonder how those kids turned out.
Musr be traumatic finding out the kind of parents they have
Never heard this story before & it is challenging to listen to,heartbreaking in the extreme, completely worn down with fear & brainwashing, how she survived as long as she did I don't know,I guess we never know unless we are put to the test how the will to live can overtake everything, god bless Colleen, she deserves the very best from now on
This was the most distressing true-crime story I have ever heard. That poor soul and what a wicked and depraved man Cameron is. I'm a great devotee of the series and enjoyed getting to know the host in his interview. I don't know how you managed to read this one out. What an amazing woman Colleen became. Best wishes to you all.
I don't know how they could have given Janice immunity. This case is absolutely horrifying.
If it came down to giving her immunity, or possibly either losing the case, or having him only get a little bit of time because of the defenses evidence, as bullshit as it was, then, sometimes that’s what they have to do even though it’s horrifically unfair!
And not for nothing, behind bars or not, Janice is in a prison in her own head 24/7…that beast f v c k e d her up bad, & now she has to live with what her part was, & how messed up she is & always will be- that’s her lifelong punishment. At least there’s that…😡 She will never be normal.
@janessap1739 apparently she changed her name and is working
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I CANT UNDERSTAND HOW ANYBODY CAN DO ALL THIS TO ANOTHER PERSON
Want to hear something really sick and twisted?
This freak has already been offered parole and is due up again.
He was sentenced to 104 years.
Who is the twisted mind that says” hey let’s offer him parole!”.
WTF?
They won't let him out. And if they do, it will be when he's very old.
My sister was killed by a gang member who was only 16 years old. They gave him 40 years to life. He's had one parole hearing and I attended the hearing. I thought the parole board might let him out because he said all the right things. They denied his parole.
After 40 years and being so young, he's institutionalized.
I truly think he's remorseful because my sister wasn't the initial target. She just happened to be there. So, I think this dude is dying in prison.
I'm only 17 min in & I'm shocked at the constant abuse this woman is enduring, its absolutely mind numbing..
Casefile, you guys are #1 the detail & narration is second to none..
God bless, amen🙏

Unbelievable that evil like this exists
Masterpiece indeed❤
There's a part one..this is part two
This story is officially the worst thing I’ve ever heard. Absolutely disgusting what he did to her. If there is a hell, Cameron will be burning in it.
Unbelievable!!!! I am so thankful they found the evidence to substantiate Colleen's story.....the box, and he torture devices, the photographs......without which, she probably would not have been believed!
Casefile this is a well- worn case.... You delivered it with panache and style!!! You never cease to amaze me; Kudos and many accolades!…
Colleen you are an incredibly strong woman I don’t think I could have put up with that for 1 day let alone years.
Janice I'm still not sure whether to feel sorry for you or despise you...actually I despise you, you knew there was no "Company" and therefore you could have ended that poor girls years of torture! You should be ashamed of yourself! I wish you went to prison as well. Plus you were an accessory to murder of that other poor women.
And as for that monster I hope you get what's coming to you in jail!
More like incredibly stupid lol she didn't half to go through even half this she could have escaped so many times but didn't because she believed a ridiculous lie only a child would believe like so much showed the company didn't exist
Same here. I'm not sure I could take that much abuse and I'm a guy ..
Horrific..
Astonishingly Collen got a degree marriage and had kids..
I would have thought she would have been scared for life..of relationships.
..
Just goes to show what a strong woman she was ...
That last comment of blame Janice made to Colleen goes to show how irrational, selfish and depraved she was. Blaming her for wrecking her marriage. Cameron probably still had ways to contact her, keep in touch and keep poisioning her mind. Or maybe she just regretted ending up as a single mother, shunned by the community and raising her daughters in semi-poverty and blamed all that on Colleen all on her own. Either way, I'm tempted not to give her slack, but then again, if it weren't for her, Colleen might never have escaped alive.
@stuartd9741 exactly she chose the right path ,whereas others would turn to drugs etc, having been in the same insidious situation
I’ve never wanted to get just 5 minutes alone with another human being than Cameron.
I reckon a creep like that would shit himself once up against real force.
Cameron cried when Colleen said she was leaving him and there was nothing he could do..just shows he was a bit of a wimp..
..
No doubt I'm sure he got a beating in prison...
So that he can teach you his tricks?
assuming he wasn’t in solitary since he was imprisoned, he most likely got served some good prison justice
@@virginiaspargo339oh he’s up for parole again and will probably be released.
This is the worst story I have ever heard. How Colleen survived this is beyond my comprehension. What a force of human spirit. May she find peace and Best Wishes to her always
I feel so intensely awful for that poor woman.
The lie the Hookers had made up sounds so much like a bad splatterpunk/torture porn smut book. He probably thought he was such a smart, creative guy, too.
Pornography should be banned. This is why
It's fuel for wicked degenerates
Jesus. I hope those kids turned out semi-ok.
This is the most horrific story Ive ever heard. It will haunt me forever and give me nightmares. I have sympathy PTSD. Im speechless with horror and grief. You told her story with dignity and respect. Thank you for that.
This is absolutely horrific!!
I can only imagine the stages of emotions Colleen went through after all she endured!
This man was a monster!!
Poor woman.. narration was at its best and detailed to show the pain she went through.
Almost unbelievable. I wish Colleen a happy life.
"She never became accustomed to the pain" Because pain will always be painful.
And the Oscar goes to the CASEFILE best true crime ever!
I think its important to acknowledge that while Janice's treatment of Colleen is completely unacceptable, and that we can't excuse her for that, I think it is very telling that she met Cameron as a child when he was already an adult. It's a textbook case of grooming. He used her in very similar ways to how he used Colleen, she was conditioned from childhood onwards to be loyal to him and it doesn't surprise me she kept going back and forth on whether she should leave him or not. He abused and conditioned her, he took advantage of her naivete and her need for connection. It's important to hold people accountable for their actions, even if they are a victim themselves, but I also do feel sympathy for her circumstances.
What a hardcore story..goes to show what fear can do to a person
Fear torture, confinement, pain etc. That poor woman
Janice blaming Colleen is crazy. She's lucky that she wasn't charged for her part early on in Coleen's abduction and being held captive....
Really well done Casefile. Hard to listen to…so horrific. Both of them should be in jail.
Excellently written and narrated.
Wow that was a story. Colleen, tough lady and smart. It's one thing to instinctively know how to stay alive, it's something entirely different to follow it through to the end. ❤ I hope you enjoy the remainder of your time here on earth Cameron Hooker. Janice should be there right beside you. I hope your lawyer never got paid for his time. Kudos to the judge 104 years is a great number.
He’s been up for parole once and is due up again.
@@richardcranium3579that's horrendous, they need to keep working on the open murder case.
Absolutely horrifying case, even for this channel's content. Poor girl.
An excellent telling of horrific crimes. A job well done! And God bless both those ladies with peace and love.

It _is_ a movie.

This is insane story
Janice should have therapy too, the blaming Colleen?? What a freaking nonsense
Yes, unbelievable!!
Therapy?
Electricity is great therapy.
Making him pay restitution is a big joke. Unless they would seize his money on his account in prison.
Unfortunately i think there could be women in boxes all over the US. What a monster.
Every single person involved in this story is totally insane.
i grew up in the area and totally remember this and how horrific it was to imagine the bed box etc I literally never forgot about this story. i hope the women have been able to heal as much as possible
The emotional roller-coaster i went through was ROUGH
so was Coleens.
Janice sounds like she was broken beyond repair
Makes you wonder was Janice really his original slave and he ruled his household through fear. Did she know the company was bs the whole time or did she believe it too

If I were Colleen's father, Cameron and Janice wouldn't have survived a full week after she returned.
Saturday morning in Texas.... excited to listen to this as I make breakfast: bacon, potatoes, eggs and flour tortillas.
Great way to start a Saturday morning over here in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in America 🇺🇸
I know the story but was looking forwards to hearing this intallment.
This was one of the most stressful things I’ve ever listened to
Unfuknbelieve 😮😢 She's a damn super hero surviving all that and for so many years. I couldn't imagine. I so want to hug her. Brought me to tears. And no wonder Janice is so messed up with parents like that. Ugh truly a living nightmare. 😢😢😢
When getting out of this situation, what could be so important that you'd spend 5-6 hours gathering it? A toothbrush? Old socks? A few knickknacks?
No excuse for Janic😮e. She knew right from wrong. She allowed that woman to suffer all those years and was involved to a point. She did it to save herself. Yes later her conscience got to her. So she accepted his torture and cruelty of Colleen, on the condition there was no sex with her? Both trailer trash mentality plus he was a psychopath.
You don't think that Janice (who was 15 when they met) had Stockholm Syndrome too? She was also beaten, nearly drowned and was assaulted too. She also witnessed him murder the first woman.
I agree. No excuse.
@teveson8256 no I still don't excuse her. Not to go along with it for that long. Maybe she didn't have great guidance as a child to have been allowed to meet this man at 15. But she could see with her eyes, hear with her ears what her abd her husband were causing a young woman to endure. She could have tried to get help. She was also warped, regardless whether she had been groomed or not. She only thought of herself. I'm glad Colleen stopped contact with her, because she came to recognise the woman was in fact toxic. And yet she claimed to have a faith in God??! People you're excusing will protect a cat but watch a human suffer!
@@Fallen_Venus There's a big difference between having an interest in forensic psychology, neurological psychology, and what early trauma does to our minds, and "excusing" such people.
@teveson8256 yes of course that affected her but she still knew the other woman was suffering and contributed to it regardless. She had a conscience
It's almost unthinkable, these two sadistic creatures were parents, of girls.
Colleen Stans ....shows you the strength of the Human Spirit.
as someone who has experienced abusive relationships of all kinds and sexual assault, i have NO sympathy for janice. she started as a victim, but the moment she became complicit in her husbands crimes and allowed those things to happen she lost all right to sympathy. she's a horrible person and a horrible mother, keeping her daughters around such a vile man. yes, she set colleen free and left her husband eventually, but it should NOT have been necessary for her mother to ask the question of "what if he hurt your children?". being an ignorant bystander to crimes this severe makes her just as guilty.
Thanks Matey 👍
Perfect podcast!
Idea for another one
Shankariya awful Indian killer! Unbelievable horror
HOW ON EARTH DID THE DAD NOT SEE THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG. AND NOT HAND HER BACK TO THAT MONSTER
Woodchipper for Cameron, disgusting
Absolutely horrifying 😢
Good lord! CPS didn't take the children from Janice?
Mind blowing
goes to show how disgusting lawyers are. saying that she wanted to be tortured. this is why lawyers should be tried as acomplises in cases where they defend cirimnals. they are just as guilty as getaway drivers
Obviously, I can’t imagine what the situation was like, or how things were, and of course Colleen was being psychologically conditioned by Cameron and Janice with their warnings of “the company”. Further control was engrained into her mind when she would be driven to & left in isolated environments overnight, or forced to run miles, swim around the lake, etc. Nonetheless… when Cameron left Colleen overnight in the snowy woods, and told her to stay until he returned… tbh, I’d have been gone at that point, or climbed up a tree and hid myself super well. Really, that would’ve been my fight or flight moment, right there, especially considering he didn’t show up again until sunrise, when she could hear the distant sound of morning hunters’ guns.. Yes, it’s dangerous to walk through the wilderness in the dark, but I would’ve done SOMETHING. I know she was psychologically being manipulated, but apparently even she “toyed” with the idea that the “company” was a lie…
Not to mention the trips to the bar with Janice…?! I would’ve used that immediately.
Wow i just cant.. holy crap. Ill catch the next episode lol

This sounds metaphorical in that it's sadomasochistic acts are things to amplify the torture some of us go through in plain sight. I've tried to get help but get dismissed as the experience seems illogical and impossible at a man my size who seems "normal" ,and I am, thank God. I just wait for these people with money who finance these games and use medical devices to control someone for money making possibilities. I pray every day for the safety of others who I was and have been told that are also victims. They have been able to move on and so have I , mentally but feel like I have been tossed away and no one cares about me because I'm an ex police officer who was exposed to radiation in 1995, and twice in 2018 I Arizona. Now I am like a Geiger counter in a way, tasting radiation in moisture in the air. Please if you know anything help me so I can move on. Stop these animals who treat us as a piece of useful (whatever adjective you'd like to insert here). Obviously, this narrator is absolutely phenomenal (to put it lightly...). That being said... Just for the sake of the point I'd like to make (just stick with me, everyone... I promise that there is an interesting point to this comment. And additionally, I REEEEEAAAAALLLLLLLY want to know if anybody agrees with me on this...)...
Let's all pretend, just for a minute, that I am- hands down, and with no close contender- the absolute top-performing, most watched across all demographics, in demand content creator/ narrator... K? At around the 38 minute mark, it wouldn't matter if I did 100 takes or more; there is zero chance I would be able to successfully record that part of the piece without noticeably crying through it. Not a chance. In fact, most likely; I would be 100% not understandable, full-on "sup-supping", ugly crying, and very very likely- even constant runny nose sniffling (not just lightly weeping or something). Then my hypothetical career will be completely demolished. Serious props to this absolutely impressive, incredible creator.
Good job on this horrific tale. I agree with commentor, I doubt I could have survived. And, the 1st girl murdered? Let him rot.
Damn, I should have known better than to think that Janice's redemption arc was going to last!
7:44 the monster fails the golden rule
Where's casefile 270???
'the company' lol. What company? Show me some paper?! She's too gullible.
I glad Colleen got justice and the company didn't exist..
Cameron was a twisted F if you ask me.
..
I can understand why Janice would think the break up of their marriage was down to Colleen.
..
Because Colleen was the slave replacement instead of janice suffering the abuse.
So Janice brought the whole love triangle thing
(if you want to call it that) onto herself..
..
Although a bit naive, i agree with some comments and feel Janice was an assesory to Cameron's torture acts.. so should have seen justice as well..
..
I do think Colleen had an opportunity to escape when she was allowed to work.. she could've called the cops or when she visited her family ...
..
7 years of torture is too much for most people to endure..
..
I'm also quite surprised Colleen moved on got a degree and had kids..
..
Intimacy with another male must have been difficult..

Still, this showed what a strong women she was..

I almost quit the first episode as this was a tough one to listen too.
But I had to see what happened to Colleen in the end.
..
So so relieved she made it out ok.

God bless you Colleen..
Where is the audio?
This was hard to listen to
I'd like to think there was never a more evil person than Cameron Hooker, but I'd probably be kidding myself. Let's say I have never heard about any more depraved, heinous, evil crimes and deeds and reasonings than his. And I'm a long-time listener of Casefile.
I know Coleen was brainwashed but I dont think she was very smart in the first place..
You'd have thought Collen would at least try to escape once?
..
Although she was relatively young, perhaps a little naive just like Janice..?
All I kept thinking throughout was go on escape..but she didn't...
There was the possibility that Cameron would kill her at some point if he was mad enough...
Geez 7 years of torture...not sure AI could go through all that...
If she was in a position to believe that she would die anyway, she probably felt completely hopeless to escape even if we think she should've. She probably wasn't thinking straight at the time either.
You're not very smart
Wait a minute, so she had alllll those opportunities to straight up leave and she didn’t because of “the company”? Yikes. Kind of a dunce if you ask me. Still horrific and that woman is tough as nails. Just not very aware or smart.
I just find the whole story very unbelievable. Laying in a stifling “bed box” for 3 days while you know the family is away and knowing that you are perfectly capable of getting out? How did she urinate or defecate etc.
