I sat in the back of the bus my first year. It took forever to get on and off and was way too close to the shitter.. We were pretty much forbidden to take a shit in there, but the smell of the chemicals was really overbearing. I moved up to the fourth row my second year, and spent my last four years in the second row behind our corps director. Front of the bus is the way to go, absolutely. When you get to a housing site you can stake out the best spot in the gym, and also for someone like me who has always had a bit of claustrophobia I didn't feel as confined. Regardless of where you end up, like he said find a good seat partner and keep your area clean. Most importantly, though, play the game!
Front of the bus you can lay in the aisle without people stepping over you to go to the bathroom, you don't have to deal with the smell, you're the first person on and off the bus at stops (no waiting for like 80 other people to disembark first). What does the back of the bus have compared to THAT?
I fell asleep in the isle from a far away competition. I woke up with one person's feet across the seat i was in, another person in my seat holding my pepsi case passed out, and me 3 seats in front of where i passed out due to the bus stopping and me sliding forward. Needless to say, best. sleep. ever.
I’ve seen jugs in the overhead(which isn’t allowed) as well as shoes in the overhead(which ALSO isn’t allowed) I’ve gotten hit with both. Also, I saw you were in Michigan City! I’ve housed at that same housing site too -Colt Cadets ‘17, ‘18
Bones does Contras and Percussion on one bus and the rest of the hornline on the other. You ain't whistling dixie about the practice pads. My god, the practice pads.
Oh the practice pads. A great way to practice and a good way to pass the time. However, I'm in highschool and my Band Director had to ban the use of practice pads for long trips because he got annoyed with us practicing for the competitions. So I see you're point.
Hey, David. I know this comment is years late but I could have never made it into drum corps without your videos. I got into the Academy my first year got contracted at the Bluecoats my next season. You helped so many people like me. Thank you.
AND DONT BRING CHOCOLATE. It melts and gets everywhere and its brown and just no Also lol I was the febreeze lady on my bus; they were so sad when I switched busses and their bus got smelly.
marching in a DCA corps, we didn't have too many bus trips (2 to be exact) but the first trip from Cincinnati to Racine in '14 we had the BEST bus driver, his name was Ron...
My favorite school bus driver's name was Ron too! He was pretty chill and had a lot of crazy stories to tell if you got stuck on the front of the bus and were bored.
From what I learned when we took a tour bus to Florida from Arkansas; Get on the front where there is a slight ramp and get on where the ramp ends and becomes flat. Ultimate back support and comfort.
Hehe when I was in PCCG in 2012, for the national leg of the tour I was in the very front of the bus (and I didn't have a seat partner). It was great, I had so much space! (which was especially great because I had waaaay too much stuff... I joined the corps really late when I heard there was an open spot on guard, and didn't learn how to properly pack). Also our awesome bus driver would call me his "copilot" ^^ lol... But when the staff/volunteer bus broke down and was out of commission for a few days, me and a couple of my other front of the bus friends (who also got rows to themselves) were temporarily displaced to the back of the bus (where a lot of the age outs/leadership were)... let's just say no one was happy about the temporary placement. But as for movies, in PC we weren't technically aloud to play movies on the bus system (though if you had a laptop or tablet or something, you could watch it on there... and very occasionally that rule was broken if my mind serves me correctly)
You forgot the seat cover! Make those itchy seats comfy with a simple fitted twin sheet! Also, yes spongebob. The Texas one made all of us at Bones miss home (or at least that was the running joke). You go dude!
Good advice but only one thing. The bus IS your home during tour. And love the q&a after during lunch lol. Miss those times. Have a great summer best raccoon eyes win!
The guys whos 4ft 8 and plays trumpet is awesome! Super cool guy, i got a chance to chat with him after Allentown on the way back to the buses with my friend
One time we were coming back from a late competition and those who were still awake took part in either standing up for as long as possible without losing balance or crawling on the ground and touching the band directors head, also one of our buses broke down in da hood
Also, be careful what you put into the overhead bays if the bays are the open design without dividers between them, because some stuff WILL be lost forever and eaten by the void. Trust me, I learned the hard way...
what if your seat partner is the opposite sex? Will they try to make moves on you even though you're taken? I hear a lot of cheating happens on the bus
Where was this filmed? I live in Massachusetts and I feel like I’ve been there for winter percussion, and if you were in Crusaders in 2017 I went to the event in Everett Ma
My gosh I wish I would’ve tried out for DCI. That seriously looks like it would be the time of my life. :’( too bad I just turned 30, and I’m all old and stuff now.. gross
Tracy Sault Pacific Crest has fancy buses but they prioritize communication on the bus so they don’t play movies during the day and night is sleep time
Jose Perez nah your good the worst to use are invaders with laminates but people don't really care about drumming as long as you only drum within reasonable hours no one will care
My seat partner this summer was from Japan and knew very little English, but she was, super polite, like 4'11", and quiet, but we would still try to have conversations. I would definitely recommend asking someone who you wouldn't normally think about sitting next to. But, most of all (if you're a rookie), don't be afraid to ask! It's probably more awkward for the other person to say "no" because they already have a seat partner than it is for you to ask
I did! There were several holes lol. We had a full hornline for a week or two and then a euph and mello had to drop out a couple weeks before semi-finals. Glad you found a home though :)
"If you wanna ride the guard bus, well, I hope you like watching mean girls"
I feel personally attacked by this
Not going to lie I have fallen asleep in my seat on the band bus and woken up on the floor with feet on me. Band buses are magical creatures...
Shoot. I have a 3 hr ride with my band this Friday, and only now am I realizing I'm f*cked
Oh we got lower state comp next week and issa 3-4 hr ride
"Disclaimer: I'm only 4'8", so that might not work for you."
ABSOLUTELY DEAD 😂😂😂😂
lol
How is he that short
The season ended yesterday and post tour depression has already set in :(
Sean Bowers what’s that?
3:52 "Just figure it out". This guy gets it.
"...or someone will die" best way of describing the situation, without a doubt ha ha

That LOTR comment was uncalled for
I was wondering if you could make a guide on how to handle DCI and college classes.
Diggin' that lot riot
I remember watching this 5 years ago wanting to be in dci. And now having marched, this video gives me absolute joy. I miss you JD!!!
Did you march SCV?

"It's like going from Texas to Louisiana" SO TRUE OH MY GOSH XD can't wait to see you in Lafayette July 20th! :)
Bones does Contras and Percussion on one bus and the rest of the hornline on the other. You ain't whistling dixie about the practice pads. My god, the practice pads.

David Peveto Shoot I got contracted for Crossmen I guess I’m gonna fall asleep to practice pads

"Back of the bus sucks" LIES AND SLANDER
He said front of the bus
Player back of the bus is life for my schools band... Its also where bad things happen and mistakes are made... But its FUN!
The back of the bus in charter buses does suck bc when the poop tank fills it smells so bad back there
I marched with a corps last summer and back of the bus kinda sucked
Player when I go on trips with my school/otherschools, me and friends always sit together on buses in the back
No mention of the Gatorade bottles!
AND DONT BRING CHOCOLATE. It melts and gets everywhere and its brown and just no
Also lol I was the febreeze lady on my bus; they were so sad when I switched busses and their bus got smelly.
4:48 That is a genius idea
That reference to Louisiana tho XD our band camp starts the day after the performance day in Lafayette. Btw. We are taking selfies together!!!!
you have taught me so much before i try out for dci. You make them educational and funny so thank you
If you're sleeping in the aisle make sure your not bothering anyone else by doing so.
I realized while i was watching this that youre standing in my high school hallway that connects to our middle school!
Long bus rides are honestly were favorite part of tour. Time to just relax and zone out without worrying about constantly moving
marching in a DCA corps, we didn't have too many bus trips (2 to be exact) but the first trip from Cincinnati to Racine in '14 we had the BEST bus driver, his name was Ron...

You guys stayed at my school this weekend for DCI Minnesota!
I spent my summer on the guard bus! So much glitter in all of my stuff...
You forgot the seat cover! Make those itchy seats comfy with a simple fitted twin sheet!
Also, yes spongebob. The Texas one made all of us at Bones miss home (or at least that was the running joke).
You go dude!
Front of the bus sucks! Back of the bus rules! (FBS;BBR) - Spirit Hornline '09
Back of the bus is lit!!
This whole video was held at my school. MICHIGAN CITH HIGH SCHOOL. The corps preformed at AMES FEILD
I'm going to be at the show on July 2nd!
Trust me, I learned the hard way...
yo! the short dude! its payton! he's my drill instructor
I just found out that Boston crusaders are going to practicing on my town's field on the day of the Clifton show :D I can't wait to meet you
How to comfortably sleep on the band bus:
You don’t.
I'm going to the Denton show called Red River Thunder on July 16. My goal in life is to take a selfie with you 😁
My bus is mostly comprised of the clarinets and the flutes singing load renditions of high school musical
"and if you think about riding the guard bus.. I hope you like watching mean girls"
*LUL*
4:37 DUDE TOTALLY!
Your channel is great
Love the videos man, keep it up!!!!
3:50 fucking legennnnnnd
Cool to see how much HASN'T since I marched (a long time ago).
I'll be at the Murfreesburo (I think that is how you spell it) show! :D
Can you do a video on going in DCI and college? Also, some ideas on how to keep a good amount of money with you besides your parents?
I'm auditioning for Boston Crusaders this year wish me luck!
How to cope with 2020 dci tour being cancelled
tuba/contra section is definitely a front of the bus section
Will you be on the crusaders this upcoming season? Your corps is coming to my school twice this summer. I'm excited
This video was made at my high school.😂
Some corps allow you to set up hammocks on the bus. which is by far the best way to sleep on the bus
Omg my guard loves Mulan too!!!! Is that like a guard thing or something?
AYEEEE I found Payton!! +Jdfuncorps
YUP always heard drum pads lol
OMg Rachel is our Guard tech!
Will you be at Atlanta because I would love to find a chance to meet you. I'm on tour with southwind this summer
Middle of the bus, driver side window seat is the best part of the bus.
Switzerland Sucks... (The middle of the bus)
Middle of the bus best option confirmed
what if your seat partner is the opposite sex? Will they try to make moves on you even though you're taken? I hear a lot of cheating happens on the bus
The next EMC
Keep up them videos!! 👍
Where was this filmed? I live in Massachusetts and I feel like I’ve been there for winter percussion, and if you were in Crusaders in 2017 I went to the event in Everett Ma
The 4'8 guy played contra btw
My gosh I wish I would’ve tried out for DCI. That seriously looks like it would be the time of my life. :’( too bad I just turned 30, and I’m all old and stuff now.. gross
Woah I'm on the road to joining the OC's, and I just came across this and somehow you were an OC. What are the odds?
Sorry about the dumb question but are woodwinds also in DCI
Boi
Currently no.
On our coach busses our seats flip up into bunk beds
HEY MA!! MA!!! you sir, are the luckiest man alive
Give me the corps name and i swear to god ill ditch the contract i got this november faster than-
Ouity it's chops inc we had like 8 shows (we are dca) don't ditch your contract pol
Wait you're in the Boston Crusaders? Next time you see Nate Sletton, tell him I said hi.
He's isn't in them, he was working for them
DUSKF1RE oooh well still
Just for safety, ride the brass bus if possible. We're a little weird but at least there's no glitter and can actually shut up unlike percussion
Overhead bays? When I was in corps we had used school buses. No electronic devices. We actually talked to each other. Yes I'm old.
Tracy Sault Pacific Crest has fancy buses but they prioritize communication on the bus so they don’t play movies during the day and night is sleep time
When was your age out/when you march? I’m marching seventh regiment rn.
I aged out in 2014. I hope you're having an awesome summer!!
Wait, I think I just found the guy that helps our marching band... They said he had a UA-cam channel.
Also turn up the last bus ride
Why would you ride the guard or percussion bus?
what corp are you in?
Haha, every time I hear bay, it's automatically bae;)
hey, I'm 6 foot, and I slept comfortably in the position that the four foot eight guy described.
My band uses 5 busses.
I need an address to send you some questions via carrier pigeon…
Hey for any percussion vets out there, when riding the bus is it cool to use xymox pads or would those be too loud?
Car mufflers are the best practice pads
Jose Perez nah your good the worst to use are invaders with laminates but people don't really care about drumming as long as you only drum within reasonable hours no one will care
Anyone else ever sleep on the overhead😭😭😭
"Front of the bus sucks" duly noted
any tips for people who get motion sick? would taking medication such as Bonine be advisable?
+Grace Franklyn It's like what he said with sleeping medicine basically, if it won't impair your ability to rehearse and do your job, whatever works.
I'm in Shadow DBC and we use the high school school buses. It sucks.
Front of the Bus Or Back of the Bus?
Front, that way you get off first, it doesn't smell as bad. And if your lucky the bus driver is funny
Also be ready for glitter and hairspray on guard buses...just saying.
OMG i just realized that drum corps dont have woodwinds
My seat partner this summer was from Japan and knew very little English, but she was, super polite, like 4'11", and quiet, but we would still try to have conversations. hey you marched oregon? I was planning on filling that spot that opened up on tour in 2015 lol but I'm at troop now
I did! There were several holes lol. We had a full hornline for a week or two and then a euph and mello had to drop out a couple weeks before semi-finals. Glad you found a home though :)
+Peter Eklund thanks!
What about the al....never mind
how does laundry work ;-;
BUS WAR
Back of the bus sucks!
The front of the bus sucks so much, it should be called the "Dyson of the bus."
Why the Dyson?
BECAUSE A DYSON NEVER LOSES SUCTION!
#BackoftheBus
3:45 but I'm not gay why would I lay on my seat partner?
