A great piece on the presence of Islam in the New World, with a focus on those who were enslaved. Not mentioned here, but in other programs, is that the first Muslim immigrants from the Old World were free men and women and they came of their own volition. The first documented Muslim to the New World was the trader Antony Jansen van Sale who arrived in the New Netherland colony of the DWIC in 1630 with his new, non-Muslim, wife Grietje Reyniers. He was born, according to his own words, in Cartagegena, Spain, to a Dutch father and Arab mother who was a descendant of the Sultan of Morocco; his family was forced to flee Spain around 1610 due to the persecution of the Muslim population by the government and relocated to Algiers, and later Sallee in Morocco; Antony moved to Amsterdam in the later 1620s and first lived adjacent to Fort Amsterdam on the southern tip of Manhattan on Langs strant, facing the East River by 1635, later having a house on Brugh straet (Bridge Street) and then being granted "Turk's Plantation" - a large swath of Long Island from Red Owl Park to Coney Island.

He read the Koran (staunchly against religious freedom) and still championed religious freedom (against the advocacy of Koran). Ironically, this proves the opposite of what this video claims😂😂. He referenced countless texts to explore religions, and the Koran may have been one that solidified his fear of religious extremism. Context matters!
religion had no influence whatsoever on the Constitution let any other of the founding documents. English Common Law, Roman Law and Enlightenment era where the only influence them.
Subhanallah! The first English translation Qur’an dates to 1649, but it was not until 1734 that the first serious interpretation of the meaning came about in this language. 1765, when I believe Thomas Jefferson purchased his copy of George Sale’s 1734 translation is still pretty close to that milestone, especially considering that this was still colonial America.
Muslims were so protective of the preservation of the Quran that they did not create an English translation until 1910. Every letter in the Quran is perfectly preserved from the time of Muhammad til today, 1414 years later. The Sana'a manuscript is carbon dated to within the lifetime of the prophet

Christopher Hitchens wrote and talked about the US situation with the Barbary wars, the US Navy and Europeans and Americans being kidnapped into slavery decades ago. It's disappointing that it isn't mentioned here.

3:43 the book here is 'Present state of the empire of Morocco', written in 1694 , the French monarch was trying to convince Morocco for an alliance between Morocco and France against the Ottomans and Spain.
Jefferson heard when he went with John Adams to wait upon Tripoli’s ambassador to London in March 1785. When they inquired by what right the Barbary states preyed upon American shipping, enslaving both crews and passengers, America’s two foremost envoys were informed that “it was written in the Koran, that all Nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon whoever they could find and to make Slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Mussulman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise.”

@@muhammedtrawally1798 Washington and Jefferson had black slaves. Did they have white slaves? Saying "all men are created equal" was probably a rejection of British peerage and hereditary rulers.
Comprise really? Benjamin Franklin probably the most internationally famous American after Washington was clearly against slavery. However, Franklin never held a position of power equal to Washington or Jefferson both of whom were slavers. The "Compromise" of 1860 took place one year before the Civil War, and was written by a slaver. Additionally it expanded slavery into new states and territories. That's not a compromise. That's the anti-freedom side winning. The end of reconstruction, the "redeemer" era, the Jim Crow era, Red Scare, Japanese internment, and pretty much all of Native American history are not compromises. They are negations (or at best rejections) of American ideals of freedom.

Are you kidding me? An English Quran?? In 1770?! That’s gotta be a record!

When Franklin and Jefferson wrote "all men are created equal", they meant white men.
Exactly. The idolatry of the founders have turned people blind to that fact
How do you know that
Jefferson did not mean exclusively white men, but he certainly didn’t mean black men. He wanted to destroy the culture of the indigenous population and assimilate them into the colonial European culture of new country, so he had no less of a sense of superiority but it was a less racial one than many of his contemporaries

This needs to be taught in every American history class
I agree, people should know the horrible truth about what Islam teaches.
American ideas of freedom are not negated by compromises they were forced to make because of how society was done 300 years ago.
It's such a shame to know these hidden truth of our nation!
