    TWO ADVICES:
    1) cut the sandpaper using the small hole, NOT the big one, place it on top of motor and find the screw holes and than attach it with the metal piece that you had in your hand. The sandpaper should rest on the plater as in the movie but does not need to be glued, just screwed in and it can be replaced fast when it gets worn. Also: do not use fine sand paper unless you have some ultra fine work to do - just use 80 as in the movie because it doesn't wear so fast;
    2) to prevent overheating and stopping don't push the piece you are sanding into the sandpaper/disc, the motor is not meant to have ANY torque, it's engineered to move with ZERO resistance, so this "grinder" should be used only for verrrrrry fine works, for gently sharpening blades, for sanding small wood pieces, poly-carbonate, glass etc...
    This is a toy, don't ask too much of it and be aware that if abused it could fail catastrophically and injure you. Imagine platter pieces flying trough the room after leaving a 4500-5400-7200RPM motor...

      Hello. There are more people with this problem. I don't know how to make it turn. Maybe if you disconnect the reading head or maybe change jumper location (primary-slave)? I have more HDD at home and some of them are stopping and some of them are turning. I am sorry but I don't know how to help.

      Hello again. Today I checked the disk which is stopping after 10 seconds. I tried to move jumpers around and then disconnecting the reading head and nothing. It always stop aftes few seconds so I don´t know what is causing the problem. I am thinking that there must be software which is deciding to stop spinning motor for some reasom.
      The good thing is that from all the old HDD what I have, about 40 percent are running continously so maybe you can get another HDD for your project. There are lots of old HDD these days so you can ask friends if they have old PC. GOOD LUCK and Have a nice day.

      Hello. I don´t know. Many people have the same problem with old HDD. I have got few drives which are stopping as well but I don´t know how to make it run continously. For my project I simply choosed HDD which was running withouth stopping. You can try it with few more old drives and I am sure that you will be able to find one which will run. Have a nice day.

      Problem is hdd electronics inside in HDD expect data/info from motherboard/PC, which controls where to put needle, speed of motor etc to access data on disc.
      You are probably using PC power supply connector directly into HDD connector which power supply is going through controlled electronics of HDD and then to motor, which controls speed of motor.
      Since u have some stuff disabled/removed, electronics/program from HDD, sense that something is wrong and motor stops after initial starting that depends from manufacturer of HDD it is like 10-30 sec.
      To bypass this u need directly connect power +12 and GND to motor of HDD. So you bypass controls of HDD and directly apply power to motor so it spins constantly. If u turn HDD around u will see soldering pins of motor, then with wires solder pins of motor to power connector of HDD, so power supply is directly applied to motor.
      Also this kinda motor from HDD, CD, DVD-roms, or even fans (where is some projects grinder with fans), HAVE high speed but NO torque (very very small torque), so any high pressure on grinding surface can cause decrease of spining speed or even stops.
      So this kinda projects are for small grinding stuff.

      I do not know- my drive is working. Maybe it is another type with some safety option. I tried more drives and all of them are working, sorry I really don´t know.
      If there is anybody who can help from the viewers - please post your comment.
      Have a nice day.

      Maybe if you have still connected reading head- try to disconnect it- otherwise I don´t know why it is stopping.
