Bucket Auger / Riverside Auger in Action

If you need to take soil samples from below the water table, the bucket auger, also known as the riverside auger, might be just what you need. This week, Alex shows us how the bucket auger easily grabs and scoops up the wet soils that are often mixed with fine gravel.
Typically, you will use an Edelman auger to get to the water table, but you’ll probably reach a point where the Edelman is just not able to pull the wet soil from your hole. This is when you’ll switch to the bucket auger. With its very sharp points, it’s able to cut into hard stiff soils. The solid auger body easily holds the soil for a successful sampling of this difficult material.
The bucket auger is available in the one-piece model shown in the video or as a two-piece so you can reach further depths.
