I used to work at Hyundai. The cost to replace the battery is more than the value of the car. This is the path these greedy companies are going. Tie you down into an expensive system. Cars used to just need plugs and a timing belt at 100k. Now they will be needing $25k-$70k battery replacements to make it to 100k miles

I just want it to work and work for a long time. The manufacturers don’t want to build what I want, so there is an opportunity out there for someone.

I just came back from Finland; most people drive hybrid vehicles (mostly Toyotas), but per capita, they also drive a lot of EVs compared to people in the USA. Consider that most European countries are the size of Texas, maybe, so it is hard to fairly compare, but the truth is that hybrid vehicles are the way to go until batteries are highly improved, and Toyota has been right about it all along.

We love our 2023 Bolt EV and use it for most of our short range driving. We can easily go from our country home to our city home and back (75 miles each way) on a single charge and still have 100 miles of range, at least in the summer. Where the automakers are screwing up is trying to sell huge EVs, like SUVs and pickup trucks. We had to wait months for our Bolt -- GM couldn't make them fast enough to satisfy the demand. So what did they do? They shut down the factory and converted it to build electric Silverados at a cost of about 4 billion dollars. Brilliant move. In 2023 Chevy sold about 63 thousand Bolts. Now it's selling about 700 Silverados a month. Stupid stupid stupid.

Yeah I agree. I worked for Ford for about a decade. Stopped working for them about two years ago. While I was there I got to check out the Mach E "mustang". To me it's an electric station wagon with mustang tail lights. A mustawagon if you will. Anyway I gotta be honest. It's a nice car! It really is! The interior is very well done. The dash is cool, giant screen in the center, lots of cool bells and whistles. I really liked it. Price? Nowhere near anything I can afford. Drives great. Fast as all hell. I would go as far as to say it's stupid fast. Why anyone would go that fast other than racing is beyond me. Ok so you miss the sound of a V8? There's an option to make it sound like a V8! It comes through the stereo. I think you'd likely look pretty silly driving down the road listening to an engine on the stereo, but what do I know? Anyway, the nail in the coffin? Battery power and consumption. If you got a good one it'll work as advertised and to be honest that's not that great compared to a Toyota Corolla from the early 2000s. If you weren't so lucky then you'd have to prepare to make it live on that charger. Each one would need a good 24 hours on the charger and the dealer I was at only had two charger ports so they'd get in about 20 at a time it would take over a week to get them charged up and they lose some charge sitting on the lot. I agree. Not quite there yet. Maybe next year.

There's only so much efficiency you can get from ICE engines. I think with pistons there is a theoretical maximum of 50% recovery on the shaft. Honestly the best would be a super efficient 30hp engine in a hybrid setup where the battery is only used to accelerate the vehicle.
