MADONNA had her shot at Hollywood fame....just like others..... She can't act very well. That is a FACT. So Hollywood didn't dismiss her and despise her...... Hollywood is a business. You can tell she was very nervous. Her hand was shaking. But even though at parts of the performance her vocals were shaking too, it came across as so vulnerable, sweet and beautifully presented. Like you two, I was very proud of her. A courageous performance indeed as you state. I’m so loving your reactions to the queen.
This music video "You Must Love Me" was filmed after production had wrapped which is why Madonna spends the entire video standing behind a piano - She was Eight months pregnant -
Did you notice the whispers in the audience when he said that Madonna was showing a great deal of class… you just know what they were saying 🙄 Bless her, she seemed really nervous and vulnerable, but absolutely killed the performance! One word… VOCALS❤❤❤
She deserved an Academy Award for sure for this role, Hollywood hated her though. She was seen as an outsider, a threat. Anyway, she gave us the role of her life. Amazing
I haven't read through most of the comments so apologize if this is repeating other comments - this performance was after she had won the best actress golden globe yet snubbed by the academy of even a nomination in that category. For a song to be nominated it has to be an original song, not a cover or previously performed outside of the movie - Webber and Rice re-collaborated on this new song for the movie. a top 20 hit in the US, top 10 in other countries and in some, top 5 hit. The 2nd song from a movie performed by Madonna to win an oscar. Who's that Girl, This used to be my Playground, I'll remember, Beautiful stranger, Die Another Day and Masterpiece were all nominated for Golden Globes.
The vulnerability in her voice works because this is the moment in the musical when Evita was dying. It is a beautiful song. Billie Crystal's introduction of Madonna was very sweet and appropriately respectful, given that Madonna was not nominated for her role as Evita. I can't imagine any other actor playing that part.
What I like about these small live performances is that at first she always seems very nervous or insecure. The same thing happened to her in 1991 with "Sooner or later"... but as the song progresses she gains confidence, she manages to relax and do things well. All of this adds emotion and interpretation to the things she does. Not everything is technique and perfection, and that's fine too... Saludos!!
I miss Billy Crystal as a comedian/actor and host. I think he’s the best that ever hosted the Oscars. The cam focused on Streisand when Crystal graciously acknowledged Madonna, after Streisand declined to sing her song nominated in this category from the movie she directed and starred after it was snubbed (not nominated) for an Oscar. The Academy had to ask Celine Dion to perform the song, which Streisand missed because she was in the powder room during the performance. Madonna has auditioned for the Evita film role way back in 1986 when Oliver Stone was the director for the film project-she was passed over for Michelle Pfeiffer. Then she tried again after Pfeiffer dropped out because of the long delay in launching the troubled film project, and Madonna lost out to Meryl Streep. Then Streep and Stone also dropped out by 1994 and director Alan Parker took over the project. This is when by Christmas of that year, Madonna sent a 4-page letter together with her music video of Take A Bow to Parker lobbying for the role. Parker was intrigued and decided to consult with Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd-Webber. Rice was in favor of Madonna probably because he admired Madonna for being a lyricist like him, but Lloyd-Webber was initially skeptical of Madonna’s vocal range for the musical. But when Madonna agreed to get professional voice training, all three gave the nod to her. Their decision was handsomely rewarded financially and in terms of acclaim. I remain fascinated and obsessed with your beautiful reactions and Madonna journey.
Aww, you're very sweet - Thank you! ❤️❤️ And thank you for sharing that backstory - We were wondering why the camera cut to Streisand during Billy Crystal's intro...
@@OurAnxiousReactions My wife and I attended her opening night (of 5 shows here) Celebration Tour concert yesterday (March 4) at the KIA Forum in Los Angeles. It was a stunning, raved up, awesome show. What an unforgettable experience. She was radiant, beautiful, happy, as fierce and charismatic. The production is state-of-the art, otherworldly and new age tech. The sold out L.A. audience who were on their feet for her 2-hour 15 minute performance (not including the 1hour pre show) cheered loudly, repeatedly applauded, sang along, many danced-gave her the love and respect she’s earned that energized her, her dancers, and the whole place. It was electric. The thought and realization came to me, what a fortunate time and privilege to experience this; 40-year in the making capsule of her compelling life story, music, artistry and advocacy-of her journey that’s arrived here at this moment in time, that she’s sharing and celebrating with her true believers. And she’s coming to your venue city on April 1st! Have a blast as we did!
Wow!!! So incredibly happy for you two!! ❤️❤️🎉 And what you said is absolutely true - To be able to attend this concert and participate in this celebration is such a special privilege. We're beyond grateful that we decided to undertake this journey at this particular moment. Can't believe we're less than a month away!
@@OurAnxiousReactions None of the fan made videos posted online of this tour do justice, not even close, to experiencing Madonna live. Her collaboration with Stuart Price, tour musical director, is brilliant. We lucked out last night, Price was the DJ for the pre-show musical blast of raved-up remixes of her dance hits and throughout her performance-her music came through so powerfully, with urgency, assertiveness, poignancy and resonance through time, which captured the essence of her music, artistry and her character. You’ll feel it as I did (with awe), since you, I, and her loyal admirers-we get it and understand her history, artistic vision and messaging.
Sounds amazing! ❤️❤️ This concert is going to be an incredible experience - We're both so excited to actually feel the energy in the room at one of her shows. Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience (and increasing our excitement, if that's even possible! lol). ❤️🎉
Beautiful and vulnerable performance. It did show a great deal of class. They deliberately showed Barbra Streisand when he said that because she refused to perform as her movie was snubbed.
Thank you for another great reaction ladies... Madonna did a great job using her new found vocal range which she uses magnificently throughout Evita and in her subsequent album, Ray of Light - cant wait for you to get to that masterpiece!😍 ❤
Such a beautiful performance. Her vocals here are spectacular. She looks beautiful. A nod to Evita in a Dior gown. Everything is perfect. I love how you literally took the words right out of Billy Crystal’s mouth. 😆 However, she should’ve been nominated for an Oscar for this role. Thank you for reviewing this. See you soon, and have a wonderful day. ♥️

She is not a fan per se but like all who are her age she knows some of her catalogue. Thank you for ever gracious reactions love them looking forward to more as you go along
This is one my favorites. In reality she won. And I loved watching Truth or Dare in the movie theater, she was.so crystal clear and normal, but still powerful and positive
Oscar acting nomination or not. This was such a feat for her, winning Best Leading Actress at the Golden Globes, winning Oscar for Best Song, having people commenting on her not being nominated for Best Actress as the Oscars like she was expected to be, when just a few years earlier people were making fun of her acting career as it was never as successful as her music but how could it be? I do agree she is best in movies were the character is closer to her real personality( Desperate Seeking Susan) or it has to do with Music, which everyone knows she's great at ( Evita). This was the role of her life and she deserved all the acclaim and success movie and soundtrack got. Passion project for her for sure. She even cut her Bedtime Stories promo short and didnt tour the album just to be able to do this movie. And after proving everyone wrong who said, she can't act, here she is again singing live at the Oscars and just like her 1991 performance, proving everyone wrong who said she can't sing. Long live the Queen and thats why she is still selling out huge sports arenas around the globe in 2024 at 65.
Madonna is not only a class act, but in a CLASS ALL OF HER OWN! Queen! Legend! Icon! Goddess! Long may she live, and I love you ladies more and more as we travel down this Madonna yellow brick road. She should have been nominated for the film. It's a shame.
Madonna's perfromance was incredible, and that Dior gown!. Dont forget Madonna had given birth to her first born - daughter Lourdes a mere 5 months before this.
You are absolutely right. The singing lessons she took to sing in this soundtrack expanded her range. It was like discovering a whole new singer back then. In this performance she was really nervous, but when she did it on tour she made a production that suited her style better and was 100% confident, singing it might after night. However… it wouldn’t be until 2008 we would be graced with this song figuring in her concerts!
Yes! Been waiting for your reaction to this performance. This is my favorite live vocal for her, in front of Barbra Streisand, even!!! Her voice sounds so good and I'm SO happy Billy Crystal acknowledged Madonna's class in coming to perform.
On UA-cam some time ago I saw the rehearsals of this performance, Madonna was dancing while waiting, probably to release tension. We all, including her, knew that Evita was the role of her life. What strikes me about her performance is first of all the delicacy of her voice, the femininity. I even love what could be considered her vocal limitations because I have always despised the virtuosity and gratuitous display of singers with stronger voices. I often find them boring. Last but not least, Madonna's desire to have the clearest and most comprehensible diction of every single word possible. She put her soul into it.
She is so classy in here. Kept the control into this important event 👍 I love MADONNA voluptuos body (because of her recent newborn baby Lourdes) Greetings from BRAZIL 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 We are loving Madonna journey 😘
Triumphant- The perfect adjective! She was singing so beautifully during the Evita years though, wow. I’ve heard this performance a lot but ( and I know I know I know I think lol I think I said this about something else …..) watching it with you guys made a really big difference haha. This performance is totally FABULOUS! Thank you so much, Zane 💜💚🩵
Man, what a contrast between this and her last Oscar performance. Both great and both turned heads. I remember when I watched Evita, in the theater, I was so deeply into it that at one point, I sat up a little straighter and said to myself, Damn that's Madonna. Thats Madonna! Up until that point she had made me forget that that was her. That is how good she was in the movie. Besides her singing, I loved loved loved all the classical dancing she did. I always do like it when she brings out her classically trained dance moves.
The vocal training she received for Evita provoked a displacement of her voice, moving her vibrato towards the falsetto, because she had to reach higher notes. It took a couple of years for her voice to settle back to the right place, meanwhile you'll heard her voice being misplaced in her live performances, I'd say up until the year 2000. Then, once she found the right placement of her voice she started to sing live much better, better than ever actually, finding and properly using all her power and her full voice. That's why she will sound absolutely amazing in her Drowned World tour in 2001, and from that moment on.
@mrumrumru yes, exactly. Remember Ray of Light at the 1998 MTV VMAs and how misplaced her voice was. Fortunately she was able to fix her voice later, but 1998/99 were bad years for her live singing.
The speech Billy Crystal did, was intentionally referred to Barbra Streisand. She had a song nominated from her movie The Mirror has Two Faces which she directed and starred. The song was a Top 10 hit inn1996, "I finally found someone" which she wrote and recorded along with Bryan Adams. She was intended to perform it that night, but she didn't attend rehersals due to a "cold". Eventually she attended the Academy Awards show. Celine Dion took her place (she had to learn and rehearsed the song in record time).......and guess what.....when she performed it, the show producers and cameramen went crazy trying to get a shot of Streisand, but she was nowhere to be found. Later on, she told reporters that she "had to rush to the restroom" because she still wasn't feeling well.......🙄
The two times she sang on the Oscars was Barbra Streisand in the audience 😅 she was really nervous but delivered well, is a difficult song to sing by the way 🧏🏻♂️
The one fact that has to be shared was the Barbra Streisand situation. Babs refused to sing "I Finally Found Someone " from "The Mirror Has Two Faces". She didn't sing the song because she wasn't nominated for Best Actress and the show had to scramble and Celine Dion sang the song even though Streisand was sitting in the audience and capable of doing it. Billy Crystal made that comment directly because of Streisand. Madonna sang and the song won the Oscar for Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice...
That's wild! Never knew that until now! I love both songs. I Finally Found Someone from The Mirror Has Two Faces is so beautiful and it changes keys like five times!! We need more love themes in modern movies please!!!
@@brentholcomb7842 If you watch the video of Celine Dion preforming the song, she's sitting down and has sheet music in front of her and struggled with some parts. She was a great sport for doing it but it wasn't her best. And Barbra was sitting less than 10 feet away!!!
Hi girls, how are you? I particularly don't like this live because she was very, very nervous. But I think her courage to go there is incredible. Kisses
In front of Hollywood who dismissed and despised her for the most part. It's amazingly brave

The two times she sang on the Oscars was Barbra Streisand in the audience 😅 she was really nervous but delivered well, is a difficult song to sing by the way 🧏🏻♂️
It seems like a difficult song to sing, especially when trying to convey the emotion of the moment as well. ❤️❤️
Thank you for sharing that backstory with us! ❤️❤️
Kisses
We're great - Hope you are too! Much love. ❤️❤️
