      As great as her Evita performance was, she has spent a lifetime behaving like a spoiled brat towards actors who have the unique privilege to nominate other actors for the Oscars. As much as I like her music, and enjoyed her performance as Eva Peron, that was a self inflicted wound

    You have to watch “Evita”!! Madonna’s performance is outstanding, she’s so perfect in every single scene!! I love Evita. Please note that the real Eva Peron had a very poor childhood and she was stigmatized since she was born by the word “bastardo” that meant a child that was born outside the marriage and for Evita that was something that needed to be changed, so when her husband Peron became President of Argentina, she fought and changed that word in the certificates of birth in Argentina

    One of my favorite Madonna songs. Her voice was phenomenal here after the Evita training. She shot this video when she was 8-9 months pregnant, which is why they put her behind the piano in the video. The song also won the Oscar for Best Song from a Motion Picture. Hopefully you guys will watch her Oscar Performance of this next. Nervous beyond belief, but soars vocally the second half of the performance. Thank you guys again for letting us relive these moments with you. 🥰🥰

    Madonna should’ve won an Oscar for Evita. I shed a few tears to this scene, when I saw Evita on Christmas Day, in 1997. Her voice is so breathy and delicate in this song. And she looks beautiful, hiding her baby bump behind that piano.I absolutely love it. Amongst my top 3 favourite ballads from Madonna. I do hope you circle back to review the movie!

    Defo “Right in the feels”😢😢😢 Madonna sung this perfectly, beautiful upper register but not with too much power to portray the weakness in Eva Peron’s last moments in the movie. I can’t listen to this without thinking of the scene from the movie and grabbing the tissues!! She stood behind the piano in this as she was heavily pregnant with Lourdes here❤ So sweet!
    I’m a huge Madonna fan, but this, Oh Father and Promise to Try, I have to skip when they come on as they always get me right in the feels😢 I love how You Must Love Me is now included in the stage production ❤ You will love the movie ladies x

    This song to me is more than just for the movie. I feel like when she sings it, Madonna herself is reaching out to us, her fans, critics, and the whole world. Longing for us to love, accept, and understand her. She has a couple of songs like that, like Open Your Heart, Frozen, and Nothing Really Matters.
    I remember when this movie came out. I went to the theater by myself to see it. I couldn't find anybody else who wanted to go with me. Back then, I was the only madonna fan I knew. 🙂

    For me, Evita is an artistic high point in her career. And it was my introduction to the musical itself. Which I've loved ever since and seen on stage many times. Since 2006, You must love me has become part of the official score when staged.

  • @PerryCJamesUK
    @PerryCJamesUK 6 місяців тому +6

    Lovely reaction, very moving indeed. One of the themes of the Evita film, much more so than the stage musical, seems to be the uncertainty of Eva's life. The lines in quite a few of the songs begin with "What happens now?" "Where do we go from here?" "Where am I going to?" and Madonna really lives those lyrics. Normally, and from the American version of the musical, she is portrayed as a cold, manipulative almost maniacal shrew. But Madonna's take on her is very different. She sees the woman behind the headlines and gives her a lot more humanity than a lot of the "serious" performers have ever done. She should have at the very least been nominated from an Academy Award for her performance in this film.

    • @todddepue681
      @todddepue681 6 місяців тому +3

      The strikingly different portrayals in the stage versus film versions have always been so remarkable to me.
      Madonna's had so much more humanity and, despite Eva Peron's faults, really made you feel sympathetic toward her and reminded you she was not a one-dimensional character.
      Madonna's version was the first I'd ever heard or paid any attention to the musical. I remember my shock when I later heard Patti Lupone's shrill, bombastic performance, thinking "wow, they really wanted audiences to dislike this woman"
      It was also a smart alteration to make in that I don't think cinema audiences would have appreciated being shrieked at from the big screen for 2 hours.

    • @PerryCJamesUK
      @PerryCJamesUK 6 місяців тому +2

      @@todddepue681 I couldn’t agree with you more. Madonna’s Eva is a real person with flaws and compassion. I think as the musical progressed from concept LP to London’s West End , she was still sort of fragile, but once it went Stares side she became a horrible character. Madonna took her back to a nicer place. Why would anybody in Argentina have loved Eva if she was as terrible as she was portrayed in many of the shows?

    • @OurAnxiousReactions
      @OurAnxiousReactions  6 місяців тому +1

    • @charlesr63
      @charlesr63 6 місяців тому +1

      This is a nuance of her performance that is rarely analyzed by the critics. Madonna felt a connection with Eva that is apparent in her portrayal. Deep love by many and hate at the same time. Yes she was flawed but like many icons, neither side can see qualities from the other perspective. This woman connected with the people on a personal level and that is a quality Madonna shares and many are unable to understand.

    It was often assumed that Evita and Juan Peron’s relationship was “contractual” and not based on love. (I would be Surprisingly Good For You), so the addition of this song humanized her greatly in the film adaptation. There is a very poignant moment 12 years later when she sings this beautifully in front of 70,000 fans during the Sticky & Sweet tour in Argentina. It takes on a whole new meaning as instead of a song to Juan Peron, it becomes a love letter to her fans. Tear jerker.

    This film really is an example of some of Madonna's finest work. Beyond the character being one she could portray so well, it's really like an epic 2 hour music video. Who better than her to convey a wide ranging story, completely sung from start to finish, and make it seem so natural and realistic?
    Through the process of learning to sing these songs, she realized her voice was far more capable than she'd given herself credit for. Some fans were not thrilled by the resulting change in her voice, but it really gave her a new confidence to be more experimental in the way she sang. The difference is notable on the Ray of Light album.
    My favorite fun fact about Evita, because I'm a fashion lover above all, is that Madonna still holds the world record for most costume changes by one actor in a film.😊

      @@OurAnxiousReactions There was a fascinating context and a lot of socio-political drama surrounding the decision to film Evita in and around Buenos Aires. There was no love lost between the British film production behind Evita and the Peronists and many Argentines who were angry at the unflattering portrayal of Eva Peron on stage of the original Evita. Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rice wanted to repeat their successful 1971 rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar by writing Evita on stage in a similar critical view of Eva Peron’s rise to power. The Argentines were also still holding a grudge over their 1982 defeat to the British at the Falklands War. The Peronists were also against the choice of Madonna because of her controversial reputation. They felt this film would just further tarnished the image of their beloved Evita. There were huge graffiti all over Buenos Aires urging “No” and “Out With” (in Spanish) directed to Alan Parker and this British film production, and to Madonna when the film crew and cast arrived in town in February 1996. There were also sporadic protest demonstrations against and some young Madonna fans rallying for outside the hotel where the film crew and cast were staying.
      Director Alan Parker rewrote the film screenplay to focus on a more sympathetic take on Eva Peron’s life, political/humanitarian advocacy, loyalty/love and premature death. Alan Parker and the cast held a public press conference in Buenos Aires shortly after their arrival there to allay the skepticism over the film project.
      Parker obtained approval from then Peronist President Carlos Menem to film in Buenos Aires but were denied the use of the Casa Rosada executive mansion for the crucial balcony scene. Sometime in May when the film production was wrapping up to leave for London to film in studio the balcony scene, Madonna on her initiative managed to arrange a one-on-one meeting with Menem who was then vacationing on an island off Argentina. Madonna had to overcome her fear of flying aboard a helicopter for the first time to get to the island. This would be their first ever face-to-face meeting. From reported accounts of this meeting, Menem was totally astounded, he didn’t meet ‘Madonna’-he met ‘Evita’. Madonna came fully made up in Evita’s look and fashion. She also made him to listen to some of her recordings of the film soundtrack; narrated to him her research of Evita’s life and career revealed parallels that resonated with her own, and she assured him that she wouldn’t have accepted this role if the screenplay denigrated Evita’s image and legacy. She convinced him. She returned to Buenos Aires and they proceeded to film the famous balcony scene at the historic Casa Rosada where she sang Don’t Cry For Me Argentina that evoked Eva Peron’s 1951 final speech before the ‘descamisados’ (the ‘shirtless’ workers and poor masses) declining to accept her party’s nomination as Vice President to Juan Peron’s reelection campaign due to her poor health. Eva Peron would die that next year in 1952 at age 33.

    For many Argentines and Latin American admirers of Eva Peron and her legacy, there is only one Evita musical actress for them-it’s Madonna.

    Hello Ladies.
    Yay!
    The song won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song at the 54th ceremony, which took place on January 19, 1997. Two months later, it was awarded the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 69th Academy Awards.
    Are you going to react to the movie?
    Hope you are all doing well. ❤️

    @OurAnxiousReactions did you realize she was very PREGNANT in this video; hence why she was performing behind a Piano to hide that. Of course, her face was full and glowing in this. Musically, EVITA is Madonna's most musical achievement. The film is definitely a must watch for any fan or those who love the story of EVITA. Personally, it's a little boring to me, but I love Madonna so much I ran to the theater to watch it. Unfortunately, when I did the first time, the film stopped right at the beginning because of projector issues. I had to come back to watch it, at another date. It's a great film for those who like this sort of story and genre. Of course, those who starred in the movie such as Antonio Banderas, Madonna. and Jonathon Price drew in more viewers because they all had their own fan bases. It's a great historical film (but maybe more Hollywoodize) to learn about the history of Eva Peron. Thanks for your review as always. You two are my favorites and I would come back and watch more reviews from you when you do other artists, because you are so genuine and honest. (This is the time to start mixing it up and adding more artists you want to review. It will help build your viewership!)

      What a story - you must've been so disappointed when the projector had issues! Glad you were able to see it on a different date.
      We're looking forward to watching it (especially since we enjoy musicals and Madonna 😉). Much love! ❤️❤️

    Enjoyed your reaction, but this is the era I struggle to connect with the most. Saw the film once, was underwhelmed. As such, the album is ranked last in my list of her 24 albums, just behind GHV2, Hard Candy, and Remixed & Revisited (in my "never listen to" pile). I keep giving it chances but just don't "get" it, which is fine. Plenty of fans struggle to connect to American Life and Madame X, which are my number 1 and 2 albums.

    You should react to the acoustic version from the Sticky & Sweet Tour. The best live version, in my opinion.

    I love Evita! However, I’m really hoping we go through it quickly as I think is key for you ladies to experience the whole “Ray of Light” era before you go see her on her Celebration Tour!
