“Now pulling the reception knob is going to bring that famous radio noise in, like that constant GHRHRHRH sound” I laughed so hard, I was not expecting you to attempt that 🤣
That was a good impersonation of the squelch sound and the Morse code. :) I love these small insights on such a complex aircraft, please keep them coming!
Just about when I was contemplating to read something about the radios of the A320, your video popped up on my recommendations! Perfect timing sir and thank you so much for your in depth explanation.
Sorry for the late comment. I didn’t quite understand why the SEL light for non-standard selection didn’t appear when the captain’s side was set to be able to tune VHF2 rather than the standard VHF1
One final note. On the maintenance panel (on panel 50VU, up and to the right of the main overhead 49VU) you also have the manual service interphone override switch which enables the CIDS to direct the use of the 8 jacks of the service interphone system regardless of the weight on wheels switch signal coming from the LGCIU’s, which is useful for when the aircraft is on jacks or under maintenance. Normally this system operates under automatic mode which disables the service interphone system in flight (when the WoW switch is not latched/active)
I think i understand. But why would you need to design the system to disable the service interphone system in flight? Not as if someone's going to be down there in flight, no?
yesterday I failed miserably as a newbie on vatsim with the instruction from ground of monitoring the tower frequency (amongst other things :D). Thank you for this video, I hope it will pay off on my future sessions and I will be less of a burden to the controllers!
very nice job with this one Emi, very detailed and informative. I have found myself playing around a lot more with the radios as of late since vatsim is requiring USA users to utilize the ctaf frequencies for individual airports. I always am listening to 122.8 on the vhf2 because half the vatsim users are still using 122.8 across the board for non controlled airspaces.
Definitely do more of these sort of videos. Really interesting. Quick question tho, does the voice button also have something to do with listening to atis? I vaguely remember something about that but I'm not sure about it
@@Kylehikes47 Hate is a strong word, I enjoy some of his videos and find them quite informative. But here the guy has gone on a narcissistic, misinformative sh*tstorm about the ini320 with a negative posture from the beginning by stirring up drama with a clickbait title. It's completely unjust and has left a sour taste in my mouth for him to be acting like this.
maybe this is the right place to get an answer.. listening to the morse code of VOR stations in the Fenix.. does it work or not.. I can't seem to get any beeps from it.. all volumes 100% (except music of course ;-), all appropriate knobs on and max volume.
Thank you for this explanation. I guess my question is more operational than technical. Maybe you can clarify the use of the loudspeaker for the purpose of CVR recording? My understanding is most (if not all) operators tend to keep the loudspeaker on during a flight in order for the CVR mics to capture the ATC audio. Is this true? Or is ATC audio captured directly from the CVR on a separate channel? The second option would seem to me to be the smartest way.
I hope they get to fix the ON/OFF button as well and render the radio completely off. It doesn't work at the moment. I have all 3 radios OFF and I can still listen and transmit in MSFS. I don't know if this is something that the Fenix team or Asobo can fix, but it should work as intended. It's such an immersion breaker when the aircraft is completely cold and dark but I somehow can still request an IFR clearance 🤣🤣
Not sure if this is a bug by FBW A320 or not, but I tried to transmit on VHF2 by selecting the call button there. But when I click the PTT, it still transmits on VHF1 on vpilot. Not sure why...
I have a fantasy about having to land an a320 in an emergency situation. 'does anybody know how to fly this plane?'. Unfortunately, since I now know how the radios work I have no excuse in not talking to ground so I will have some guy in my ear telling me what to do :(
19:41 I’m NO expert, but I think your Morse ‘transmission’ went _“SOE [ I? garbled]…”._ Understandably, there’s little practical use of Morse now, but it’s simplistically brilliant. Imagine having a working radio, but every mike broken (all four or five?, sure…). Using the PTT button it’s still possible to send _something_ . (Big caveat; I know nothing about actual procedures…) -••- -••- -••- - - •• -•- • • -• --- •--• ? Unless your copilot is called Mike…😅
In the real world you would still use VHF1. I never tried if shifting controls to the right seat also shifts control of the ACP to the right side. PMDG had an option like that in their 777 and 747 back in P3D.
Hello, thank you for great series about A320! I have one question. This stb nav setting is available only in case of mcdu failure? seems to be easier to set desired radial using a knob than inserting it into mcdu. Best regards!
@@A330Driver I just thought that it;s easier to set desired radial by rotating knob than inserting number into mcdu, but I have no experience, it was just my thought so I asked. Thank you for answear!
@@mateuszmista738 No worries about asking :) I really wouldn't know why rotating a knob would be easier than to type the radial in. I much prefer typing.
@@A330Driver great, than I have one more :) in one of your next videos about take off and initial climb I saw, that before take off you didn't set any speed on FCU, so how autothrust know which speed should it follow? (maybe this is stupid question from your perspective, and maybe it was already explained in MCDU tutorial, if yes than sorry:) ) And if I would like to fly raw data SID, without autopilot only with autothrust, should I set speed by speed knob on FCU? If my understanding is correct, than as we go TOGA, during take off, than we have full take off power and pitch is adjusted to achive desired speed. So I guess that in case of raw data flying we have to set some speed on fcu? Best regards!
To get system explanation from a real life pilot, is the level of simming I'm looking for! So yes, go ahead and come up with more interesting videos like this. Looking really forward to see more of it !!
Hello :) What does the BFO means in standby NAV buttons row? Also, I watched few real life videos where pilots use separate phone like device from the back of the center pedestal for the PA. Is this device connected in the same way like the ones that flight attendants use?
Hi Emanuel, how are you ? I was wondering if you could perhaps make a go around tutorial with the Fenix V2. That would be awesome if you shared your knowledge on how to configure the plane during and after said procedure and prepare to re-approach. I hope you could see my comment and consider it. Regards, Josh.
Could you please do a short video explaining why when setting trim you do it based off CG instead of the position on the FCTL page. Seems more accurate to do it that way

Always wondered how to use the radio facilities properly. Thank you!
so nice high up in the sky 200NM plus for the VHF, at sea level 16NM is about it. Enjoyed this one a lot!!! thanks!

Thank you! It’s an option I don’t think I’ll ever need to use in the real world either - but you better be prepared for it if it happens.

No, the voice button has nothing to do with ATIS. You use COM2 for that or preferably datalink.
Thank you Emanuel for this tutorial . Great as always 👍
Perfect. I was just wonderong where the Headset is connected on the panel.
Just to be clear, the loudspeaker and headset can be used at the same time to listen?
