Effing NUTZ!
Josh hit a home run with this
$4K vs. $99.00
Holy Jeez
99 bucks and 12 minute build- myths, legends and entire belief systems come crashing down....... I got in on the first batch only because the kids were so dang entertaining in the release video and it's such a slap across the guitar player community face. Brilliant on JHS part. Let the hate begin.
I’ve always been surprised about the fuss around early fuzz faces. Only half a dozen parts for lords sake. 😂😂😂😂😂
Bruh, it's not really a slap across the face for the guitar player community.
It's a slap across the face for mojobojo gear nerd bozos.
99% of guitar players never really gave a fuck about this and even the legit dudes that use stuff like this, could immediately find an alternative should the need arise.
Collectors also don't really care, because they know the price is based on other things.
The only people that get pissed of by this are people that actually delude themselves into believing this voodoo BS about how this is such a special piece of gear that has some magical properties.
Slap in the face or awesome christmas gift ?
I’ll stick with my SD-1. Classic. I did pick up a 50th anniversary model to compare with my older one which I picked up used for $28😊
yeah they were funny and entraining. Does that seem strange to you?@@Street-shitter-2
This NOTAKLON IMO, kills the myth that only a 5k Klon will do... it clearly shows that snakeoil is huge and expensive!! lol @JHS killed it.
I'm actually feel really proud and satisfied that I spent $99+ shipping on a pedal I never needed, knowing others spend $4000-8000 for the original.
I'm actually really proud and satisfied that I spent $0 not buying a pedal I never needed knowing others spent $99+ shipping on something they never needed.
@@wholewheaties🤣😂😝😂🤣
@@wholewheatiesYeah, I hear you!
Bro, there are hundreds of these clones out there. They’ll never be the original, no matter how good they sound. Will always be a copy
@@Starch1b2c3d4aKind of like how the Cutlass or an will never be a Stratocaster? 🙂
This is brilliant just for the fact that IT WILL inspire some future builders JUST because of this beautiful gimmick
Virtually identical perhaps the notaklon is a tad warmer but basically perfect
JHS: here are literal children assembling this pedal.
UA-camrs: 😰
Dude? seriously?
Yeah, have you not seen the children assembling it in the JHS vids?
Very cool! Great comparison and it was fun watching you put it together. Amazing that it sounds exactly like a real Klon, too. Josh and his team are pretty freaking brilliant.
They really are. I mean Josh ha over 4,000 + pedals on hand to use and learn from, and create better versions of. I’m sold on the NOTAKLON for sure !
This pedal is all over youtube.....
Josh has a hit on his hands.
They've already sold out, preorders for the next batch are being taken.
This is why JHS is the greatest guitar gear company of our day. Just brilliant ! And they absolutely nailed it.
Yeah Josh is super cool too and knowledgeable and respectful of music and guitar history love that guy and company
I don't know, there are ugly stories about its beginnings on sites like diy stompboxes and similar, it just took the DIY and collaboration culture of blogs and forums and made it profitable as a brand, like several others now (and now it even saves workmanship xD)
@@pedrova8058can you explain in more details?
@@pedrova8058 Most of his stuff are either clones and mods, and in the beggining there were instances of cloning stuff from other small companies, but he has discontinued them after it blew out. There was another issue regarding contributing to a church that did not accept homossexuality, but he stopped those donations after a while. I like JHS as of now and for me those are things of the past, but my favourite pedals are those multi-clones in one, ironically
@@diogoazevedo4976Church donations? JHS? What?!?!
It's identical. It's that simple. Any nuanced variation someone might imagine is so subtle it could actually be in the A-B box and not the device. As JHS has said, it's same circuit. People who don't understand electronics lean on myth... The gear industry was built on and sustained on ignorance, myth, hope and dreams. There's something sacred there I really don't want to ever fully go away, kind of like when Christmas comes around and my son believes in Santa and I find solace and beauty in his beliefs, but knowledge prevents me from being able to go there again.
If not for the goop, these two pedals would sound NOTHING alike. 😂
Somebody else who gets it!😂
I hope JHS will start selling "Goop" separately so I can improve the rest of my pedals too 🤣
Electrons don’t care about goop…
Tone is in the goop.
@@OW79I rubbed goop on my guitars stings and the change in tone was very noticeable.
Thanks for confirming they do sound identical! Pre-ordered mine yesterday!
Far out ! Great review, I appreciate the riffs and chords that really displayed the tones of the pedals well. And yeah, sounds identical for all practical purposes.
Great demo. Nice, clear sound.
Thank you for this video and the comparison. I‘m really looking forward to getting my kit.
What a fun little project and pedal!
Just Assembled my notaklon. Can't wait to use it. Those literally sound identical.
Great review, thank you!
Honestly the pedal sounds great and i didnt have a distortion pedal like this. Just got back into guitar again after being on synths for a few years. Glad I bought one.
The only demo I ever needed 😊
They sound the same to me. The JHS one has a mod switch, I think that makes it better most likely. JHS really has a winner with this one!
I preordered my NOTAKLON in November of last year. It was delivered today. I built it about two hours ago. The pedal is amazing! JHS nailed it!
That is a very interesting guitar. Well matched with Klon type pedals. Great sounds.
I already have a nice Klon clone, but I think I'm going to have to order one of the JHS Notaklön pedals. Too cool.
I bought it for two reasons: sounds great and I'm a geek for clever marketing and packaging. It's meant to be fun. I'd have zero issues buying these as gifts for my other guitar playing friends. If they didn't sell out batch one so damn quickly, I would have gotten three.
For the same price you can buy 3 of the mosky clones that sound EXACTLY the same as both of these pedals.
Waiting for mine, couldnt resist
Probably the best video of the bunch thus far because you took the time to compare it to the real deal and I am with you: it does sound very similar if not identical. Love the building process as well. Well done.
It's the same circuit, therefore identical.
Excellent video/comparison!👏👏 Genius concept from JHS, great package & marketing, sit back & watch the cash flowing in, meeting demand could be an issue……..funny, where did that happen before?🤔😂😂
Great video! Thank you for the comparison!
just one word: LOL ...
absolutely insanely great sounding concept.
They sound exactly the same! Ordered one!
they do
@@LivingroomGearDemosGo back and look at the instructions. You have to let the goop dry for 24hrs….
Great job on this video! This looks like a fun item and I plan on getting one. I don’t think it’s a gimmick at all. It’s great marketing and a solid project that looks fun and easy to build. It won’t change your life but it’s not supposed to. Have some fun
WOW they sound exactly the same!
im stoked to have one. super glad i did
The look to camera for goop was perfect.
I just pre-ordered one. They literally sound identical
There's something in the mids but yeah thats the difference In every klone, but no one in the audience will notice haha
Great tones with and without the pedals. What guitar is that, and what amp/rig are you playing through?
I’m mostly impressed that this is only $99
nice video, I stumbled on this afer I pre-ordered mine. I've built a few pedals from kits with full soldering - now that can be intimidating
Just wanted to say that after watching JHS hilarious presentation 😁... I was left thinking: "is this real or just a joke?" 😂🤣😂 So thank you for clearing this out for me, Eirik. Also I could even noticed that the pedal even sounds very good! Thanks for showing that properly.
And from all of your already known genuinity... you even mentioned your thyroid condition 😳. I really identified myself with that, as you might understand. I'm off searching about that condition of yours. Thank you 🫂
Thanks for watching the video man!
I actually can't tell the difference over video, I'm sold.
My first pedal was a Heathkit distortion booster pedal. I built it around 1970. Maybe the electronic kit thing will come back.
I bought a Klon Centaur clone from aliexpress a year ago, now, while I've never used a legit Klon, I must say, it sounds freakin awesome (there's a huge variability among these clones) and a good representation of what an actual klon sounds like going what I've heard watching vids on ty (yes yes, I know). I'll be interested to see how it stacks up against this.
If you got s Klon clone where the treble works like a treble and the gain knob affects the low end it will be the same deal.
Yiur Guitar sounds amazing, which guitar it is and what the pickups?? thanks for the great video
Fano PX6 with Lollar Firebird styl pickups
This is great! Where'd you get that Vault Boy switch pedal?
Probably a DIY project.
There are a few nice options available for adding own custom graphics to pedals, as example I create 1:1 templates of the housing, add graphic design ideas and print it mirrored to regular paper with a laser printer, then it’s just using transfer paint on the casing, carefully align the printet paper and wait 24 hours before removing the paper carefully with water.
Did the same thing to a guitar body, but rushed a bit there with a heat gun so the transfered images ended up looking more worn, still kept it that way since I liked the effect.
I've seen others putting the Goop over all the circuits, covering everything in that black tar
Me thinks these are going to sell like not cakes.
Dude. Thanks! But UNDER WHAT NAME DO I FIND YOUR PROFILES AT TONENET?¿! ❤
I found that to be astounding, side by side...
it's such a great idea, sadly i already have 3 Klon pedals so i don't need it but i'll probably still buy it at some point
Are the used materials for enclosure and knobs the same as the original?
I can hear the goop!
Amazing. Sounds identical with the same settings.
Mine is on it's way.
Who do I need to get to sign it so that I can add $3900 to its value. 🙂
Probably Mayer, I can't imagine what the Klon he signed and marked his settings on on stage that one time would go for.
It is so close- the OG is slightly less overdriven. I wonder if the overdrive levels could be more closely matched by ear rather than by where it is on the knob. Great work and thanks for sharing!
Well electronic components do have tolerances that affect the tone in such a way. So identical sounds between two of the same pedals will be at slightly different positions. I bet you could match the two of them exactly by adjusting the knobs by ear
The carrot is an essential component on every serious guitarist's pedalboard. Sign of a true artist. 😂😂😂
Does anyone know how this stacks up to the JHS modded EHX Soul Food. I don’t want to have two pedals that can do pretty much the same thing.
Taking into account that I’m listening on my phone in a slightly noisy kitchen, on doing a blind test I really could not tell any difference at all. There may be some difference with more high end gear, but I would say that for just under a hundred bucks, that’s a very nice sounding pedal indeed. Luckily I don’t need one at the… no, no… must… resist… I don’t… need… one… I … I … must… must…
I listened to on good pair of a cans, not really any different
It’s close enough for me to not give a shit I’ll never have a Klon
wow!!! homerun by jhs!!!
idc if this is a sponsored promotion. Been following you for years, so you're my honest opinion about gear. Sending you love xx
also, there's a rumble in the original klon that I can feel,. what's your opinion on the jhs about that?
I can't hear it, they honestly sound identical to me
@@elritmonoperdona.Rumble? Really? It's a Klon. Like most overdrives, a high-pass filter takes out most of the low-end. You're probably listening on your phone, anyway haha.
I need that A/B box! 😢
$50k on reverb
They're really easy to build. They're a great place to start to understand basic wiring and electronics.
Didn’t take long for them to sell out. Thankfully they will have more in a couple months so they shouldn’t be $500 on reverb
lol
There are some good klon clones for about the same price and less, only work is to find the ones that are build correct.
And if you get one you might want to carefully check that everything is tightened properly, had to retighten the switch and jack sockets on one I bought.
And even simulated in some newer units with multiple good drives the Klon is spot on, just like the TS, RAT and so on, drives are not the hardest to recreate digitally, besides that the might be additional EQ options to make them even more versataile.
You mean the product, not the company itself.
Not a black one John Mayer - JHS version probably $2,000😂
A sponsored video from a guy that has a $4000 overdrive. I’m sold!
You think I bought it for $4000?
So sorry. I didn't know you paid less than the insanity that is called "market value". @@LivingroomGearDemos
5 legged centaur….bold choice
I know you said there's no soldering required but could I solder it if I wanted to? When I build kit guitars, any of the original pieces I haven't replaced have solder-free clips on them which I always cut off. Building guitars and guitar-related things is no fun without soldering. When I'm finished, I feel like I've built nothing and I have no personal connection to the final product.
Guy sounds like he’s ready to have a coronary.😅
I like the Centaur!
Holy cow! 🤩
Excellent marketing concept by JHS. Even the the original maker of the Klon Cenatur is mystified by the hype & BS surrounding it.
Tone is realised by circuit design 1st. Component selection 2nd & that's pretty much it. The rest is ALL made up in the delusional fantasy imaginiations of people's VERY tiny minds. But one shouldn't despise stupidity. One should see it as an opportunity for profit.
This is exactly what JHS has done. Yet without offending anyone.
And THAT'S the real genius.
Awesome. And you didn't even end up with that one screw or bolt that you have no idea if it was supposed to go in the build 😂
60 cycle hum did though 😂
So Did Rhet Shull. I thought it was standard.@@uticacrib1664
I’m still waiting for mine but I’m not a hater. I love that JHS is showing you you can get great tone on your own with a little help.Stop dumping 4 grand for stuff ….., unless your able too absorb that expense
WOW!
I'm so glad that I didn't buy that $4,000.00 Klon Centaur pedal !!! Now I can buy 40 Notaklon pedals!
if you want an even cheaper Klon, the Wish Klon is excellent
The notaklon sounds slightly darker to my ears. The only thing I don't like is the surface mount components that are used.
Great
Other options are to go for a correct build klon clone for around the same price or a complete DIY project with all the best known mods for even less.
Tjis is fuckin ace man josh is killing it
What guitar are you playing? It's killer.
Fano PX6!
Oh cool. I checked out your channel and the review of your guitar. Well done!
What is that AB pedal???
Haha so sweet !
That was fun. Yeah, it sounds the same to me, too. I wish there were more to it than just breaking off chunks of board, but this will definitely not put off those who are alien to soldering. Not sure, though, if it's enough for those who are and would want to participate more in the actual circuit construction.
[I say this in the most platonic way possible, and "with an unblemished record of staunch heterosexuality": you are a lovely and charming dude.]
Anything that gets people interested is fine by me, even if they never "make" another pedal again. It will show people how simple electronics can be, and will force boutique companies to charge reasonable prices, and speculators to fuck off and leave the gear to the players.
Das NotaKlön, scheisse, herr John Mayer is uber pissed now
My hands have always been shakey. I can do everythign normal but yeah they shake.
Couldn’t tell the difference so it’s a good klone I guesd
Snobs will stil say "noOoOoO, the tone is not as goood as the Klon!!!!1"
Hilarious! ;)
Imagine giving today’s kids an Airfix kit
4000$ for pedal?
A simple overdrive?
With high gain, you cannot notice any difference. But with clean sound, it is possible to notice some difference. Great job!!!
Given all the variables in manufacturing even a Klon will sound different than a Klon manufactured side by side on the same day. Unfortunately only dogs and some select humans can hear the difference.
Don't waste your money on overhyped pedals.
I couldn't hear a dimes worth of difference. Save the 39000 dimes and get a Notaklon.
Hopefully the price of the Centaurs finally comes down to affordable for most players.
Even if there are minute tone differences (barely audible if at all to my ears) it’s certainly not 3900 dollars of difference.
The whole time I’m like.. HE MISSED the 24hrs for the goop to dry part! .. surely he saw it and just didn’t say it in camera.. surely he won’t plug it in right away… shit he plugged it in.. and it worked
But the goop will probably leak around or drip on the back plate lol
I literally shouted at that part.
Actually the centaur drawing is pretty good👍
haha thanks!
Just don't get the whole Klon thing, they just don't seem to do anything. Emperor's New clothes.
I could feel your anxiety when breaking the board apart
Sound exactly the same..maybe they should even do a blindfold challenge..maybe Andertons will do it...
last time they did that the klone (Tumnus) won.....
You paid 4k for an effects pedal? Man did somebody see you coming
Wow, maybe the AB switch is broke....lol, cool!
Never understood the Klon thing. They just sound like a Boss overdrive.
