When you forget basic maths, you know what’s going on. 😂
This video is getting really ridiculous! You guys asked me to try out extended range guitars, so here you go with my first try playing a 9 string guitar ever! Also you get somewhat of a song I spontaneously recorded. Go to 3:36 for the playthrough! Have fun!
You are AMAZING!!! At playing that thing!!!! Very nice!!!
Yes I agree and my hand and fingers are much longer, lol😂
Did you decide to buy one of these things? Personally, I never had the ambition to do more than 6 strings but that's kinda related to the stuff I do on guitars - at least so far. But I really felt you by saying 'my arm hurts' xD Great video and thanks for sharing!
good thing i have abnormally big hands and long fingers
4:34 I love how you just instinctively make "the djent face" when you lay into that low string 😂
What is it that this string triggers such emotion? xD
I had no idea a 9 string even existed, you made an amazing go of it !!
Thank you! I knew about insane extended range guitars but never saw something more than 8 strings xD
Just wait until you see a 10 string guitar...
I'm definitely going to pass on that one - I have enough trouble coping with six strings. 😂
This guitar is also just for a special approach to music I guess.
@@JassyPabst Yes, that's for sure, it would be no good for my style of music. But I must say you did very well playing it as well as you did.
The most strings I will go for atm is a seven 😭😭😭😭
Awesome Jassy! That's great to see you trying a 9 string, as an 8 string player, massive kudos to you. What I found made the difference is the neck profile in my experience as well as the scale length, with how you can fret chords etc on these guitars. Great work with playing it 😀🤘🎵🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you Adam! I was quite surprised about the playability but I had like 0 control of what I am doing. This is creepy xD
I'm looking forward to picking this one up, been a fan of extended range for a while I make a ton of use out of my 7 string and loved my 8 string.
i tended to tune down and when I played 8 the lowest I went is a C# which is the standard bass note of a 9 so I feel like it's a sensible idea for my specific preferences
Such a great video! Congrats to you for being able to play something on that! I'm sure I have bigger hands than you and I think I would struggle with that! You are amazing!
Thank you Jackson! I guess once you try to understand how the guitar sounds, it might get easier xD
Love the thumbnail lol 😂🎸😂
😜
First off that was badass! I'm only disappointed you didn't play the rgdms8, I just ordered one and can't find any videos lol
You did a GREAT JOB playing that 9 string is sounded GREAT....
Wow! I can barely get around on a 7 string, but you did really great on a 9 string AND it was your first time! Very impressive! Cheers from L.A. 🍻
Thank you very much Eddie! I did feel a little lost though! Around the end I got a better feeling for the instrument though!
I could literally feel your pain. But you did it well, I admire you Jassy.
In your place, I would have tested the blue guitar on the right behind you or the orange-brown(?) next to it.
Thank you Anna! I have tested out a lot of instruments on this day but just had time to record 4 videos =)
@@JassyPabst I'm excited to see all the videos. In the guitar shop, I would be like a kid in the candy shop, I would want to try EVERYTHING.
Nice play🎸🤘
3 more strings and a "ton! of wood more^^ you handle it amazing Jassie ❣💓🤘🤘🤘👍👍👍
And two truss rods!
Wow this guitar is a monster, but you nailed it!🤘🤘🤘
Thanks Martin! 🤘 The guitar still is a monster xD
Visually it was a little bit funny to see your hand compared to the neck. You did pretty good especially for your 1st time, good work Jassy. 🤘
Thank you very much! This means a lot!
I totally get how you're feeling. I played bass in high school, a friend of mine had a 5 string bass and I was messing around with it and even that one extra string through me off
If you ever come across a Chapman Stick, give it a try!
Most of these are 10 or 12 strings, but grouped together differently - with the thickest Strings in the middle. And you use both hands on the neck to tap notes and chords, usually your right hand playing melodies, and your left is playing chords and basslines.
It's a bit like playing piano, and actually a lot of fun! Even with smaller hands like yours they're very playable.
Wow I never heard of this instrument and so I needed to google it xD
Hallo! Du hast so viele Gitarren da, ist so Super!
Ok ok. I see what you did with the thumbnail image 😂. Keep rocking. You are awesome!!
U sound good on it. I highly recommend fan frets for extended range guitars. What did U think of the pickups?
Now that I've seen they exist must have one 😃 must try one, someone rumored to me Babymetal kami band had some made specially for them and it's true but ugh 3100 for one omg, Ibanez though has been known for its quality sound and as affordability so maybe I'll go with Ibanez when I get one 😁 This video was awesome by the way I enjoyed thoroughly you brought some great sound out of that badboy 🤘
Thank you so much!! If you are interested in getting this one, check out the video description 😃 By using my link I will get a few cents if you definitely want to purchase it 😜
I admire you Jassy for playing it really well for the first time
Thank you so much!
bad ass,loved it
The video is good jassy I am glad that you showed everyone that you have a hard time with 9 strings it definitely looks hard to master
Glad you enjoyed it Stewart!
@@JassyPabst me too
Great job regardless 👍 i totally related to the tuning issue ya had there lol. Anyways, badass 💯🤘
Thank you very much! This instrument is too much for my brain though hahaha
@@JassyPabst A 9 string does seem to be a bit much in general! Lol
Once you go below the 7th string, playing a chord other than a I-V is impractical and would sound like crap (lower interval limit). As an owner of a 9-string Ibanez, I have found that this instrument has 2 uses.
First, from the 15th fret on the lowest string to the 24th fret on the highest string, you can cover the entire range of a 6-string guitar. Second, when your bass player can't get any lower notes, you can.
Do not try to think of it as a normal guitar. That is like thinking that a pair of bongos and a pair of congas is a drumset.
This is something that occurred to me just when I was playing it to the drum track. The E Standard tuning is definitely basic. But the other three strings have a different purpose, like you said.
I've noticed the hand size, and that makes what you do all the more impressive. And they're not small, they're just normal.
Thank you Dan! Really? I rarely meet people with such small hands xD Even some kids in elementary school have longer fingers than I do haha
I learned everything i know about guitar on a 7 string, and picked up an 8 a few months after starting guitar, seeing peoples reactions to the neck sizes of extended range guitars is always funny to me, because i have the equal but opposite reaction to picking up a 6 string.
I got a 7-String Ibanez Gio on a whim because it was on sale. It's crazy how just adding one string makes such a different.
7 strings are kind of intuitive for me. Everything above - I pass xD
@@JassyPabst When you get to 8 and 9 it's not just the extra strings it's the tuning that messes with me. The common B is just the same as the second string but when the 8th string isnt representative of the 3rd it's weird. I get why it's like that I just can't wrap it around my brain.
Omg the low end 🤘💀🤘
It's really heavy indeed xD
Looks crazy.
And it was crazy haha
Tuning the 8th and 9th strings up to G1 and D1 may be easier because you can reference your 3rd/G3 and 4th/D3 strings two octaves above. Tuning your lowest two strings to E1 and B0 may also work: You can reference the 1st/E4 and 6th/E2 strings three and one octave above your E1string; and, you can reference the 2nd/B3 string three octaves above your B0 string.
“Tuning in 4ths/5 notes at a time past the G string is easier.” When you only reference your “Low E”/E2 string and go up or down from there, it is; but, if you tune to G1 and D1, or E1 and B0 for the reasons stated above, you’ll have more references; and, I’m sure you’d eventually find this easier. Composition and tone are other matters, though.
After almost 25 years of playing 6 strings around three years ago i switched to seven and its still throws me off a little haha i have to re-aim my brain and fingers constantly where as on a six string i dont even think about it. Im kinda getting used to it now though im way better than i was when i first got my first sevenstring but yeah i would realy struggle with a 9 string. Looks like fun to play about with in a store but i doubt i would ever buy one.
Personally I never had any issues with 7 strings. This also came naturally to me. But 9 strings? Besides being very uncomfortable to play, it's nothing intuitive for me xD
One (man) band is the only way to go, LOL, and I don't blame you. At least each one of me always shows up to record songs, and none of my me's are going to bug me to do "Hotel California". You sounded good, btw.
That's insane, it's like a guitar and bass in one! 12 string guitars have been around a long time but those double up with the standard 6 strings. I think 7 strings would be the most I could handle. The only people who could probably play this efficiently would have to have long boney fingers.
Or you are tapping the hell out of this 9 string!
@@JassyPabst and now thanks to you mentioning tapping, I want to see Yvette Young playing a 9. Have to say though, I actually don't think you sounded bad at all once you got into the swing of it. Maybe you're just a natural djenter.
I just picked up an 8 string fan fret and am running into the same sort of issues getting used to it 😆
It literally is one obstacle just to remember the tuning and how the strings work together. Even if you know it from 6 and 7 string guitars, this one is another level XD
I'm watching this with my 6 string in my lap. The neck has never felt any thinner than it does right now 😂
Oh my! Hahaha! More appreciation incoming hahaha
😄 When i got my 7, i didn't even know how to play the normal other 6 strings anymore 😄 Its like you even have to relearn the normal 6 string positions. It's harder than it looks, but of course you get used to it. But a 9!! thats alot of extra strings haha
Hi Jassy,
Sorry to see your arm in pain but it’ll be better soon, lol (not being a jerk since your arm isn’t in pain). Also great video 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸.
Hope to hear from you soon, stay safe and rock on to the next level
Thank you Richie! To be honest it was a really weird feeling playing this guitar xD
@@JassyPabst really, I never knew it 😲
The struggle is real! Damn! When you forget basic maths, you know there's too much new stuff going on hahaha. To be honest, I don't really get 9-strings. They always seem just too low to me, to the point where everything usually sounds the same. You actually made it sound really good. \m/ Cool that you could comfortably reach the low strings. I hope the strumming arm pain didn't last too long. It was a great try and really fun to watch. :)
It was comfy to play but like I said during the video, I nearly get tone deaf with such low notes xD Maybe ear training is neccessary before seriously starting with a 9string guitar.
Yassi u managed to pull it off better you than me !!!🤟🤟😄😄🤟🤟
xD
You ever play Grom Peruna? Good song. Would be good to hear you play. 🌞
No, not really xD I have so many cover requests, so I am just completely honest: this won't happen :( Sorry 🙈
The easiest way to navigate extended range guitars is to re learn songs you already know well on them from the beginning. Then practice your scales like normal. Then out of no where it will CLICK like “ohhhhh!! Got it!”
Best video of this year so far! 😂 incredible work! I have to admit that your track wasn’t even bad! Considering you never played on a 9 string before.
Thank you very much for this huge compliment 😊
Since you said that you weren't familiar with a band who uses these types of guitars, I have to recommend After the Burial. They are not your usual "djent" band and I feel they are masters at using things in this arena.
Oh I heard of them!
Wait until you'll discover 10 string guitars exist 😄
My heart stops haha
@@JassyPabst Wait until you discover 18 string guitars
@@ZombieJesus1987and then a piano brutally crashes through the wall like kool-aid man OH YEAH!
Not bad. You did well. Good show.
Michael Herrell
Thank you Michael 😊
Interesting video☺️
A future goal for me to obtain. An 8 string was pretty comfortable for me
Never seen a 9 string guitar until now! But you did really well trying to impress us with it! 😍
Thank you Ian! This was actually also the first time I ever saw a 9string! 😂 I simply had to take the opportunity.
@@JassyPabst you're welcome Jassy! ☺ Looking forward to more future videos as well as any new guitars you'll get to play!
I mean... Never ever? In videos or music clips? So... You didnt saw Jared Dines' 18 string beast? Or Stevie T's 20 string monster? Take a look, worth it 😄 they have a video "Djent 2019" I guess 😄
@@ThrasherJoey Please take a look at my comment, I never saw a 9string guitar ;) How does this compare to 19 or 20? These are different numbers xD
@@JassyPabst my comment was addressed to ianss4564 but... Hm... How can I explain? 🤔😂 "I never seen" okay...
But how? In a guitar store? But in a video or a picture? That was the reference in my comment: "Never? Ever?" 😅
I mean... I've never seen either a 9 string in real with my bare eyes but I saw on some music videos and pictures
And that was the reason why I mentioned some UA-camrs because they are who made videos with these djent-y "wood sticks" and potentionaly you've also seen it😅
Please, I dont meant it, I dont wrote with offense, absolutely 😊
You're funny... "my arm hurtz!"
This wasn't funny though hahaha! The pain eased up eventually though!
Holy shit... i thought your hands/fingers looks tiny on a 6 string guitar and some songs you play on 6 string i can not believe that you manage to do it, but this.. a 9 string guitar WTF, haha holy shit, that thing is massive.. :D great video :D
Aww thank you so much! I was also pretty much surprised about the playability of this guitar!
Lol I can't even play 6 strings properly... let alone 9! Well done Jassy!
Thank Frank! The guitar is a lot of fun though. I guess you need a different playing style to compliment the 9string in the best way!
I have short fingers and I learned how to play in the early to mid 70s all there was were 6 strings with the exception of a 12 string that was the same neck size as most 6. I got a 10 string BC Rich Bich but again basically the size of a 6 neck not the same as these style of guitars. I own two 7 string guitars and struggle with those. I have tried 8 & 9 but the necks are so thick I have to position my wrist in such a weird position it hurts like hell and I can't keep my thumb behind the neck if I want to play the low strings so it hits the high ones. It just doesn't work for me.
top guitar's...jessy alwaes inovation
9 strings are amazing. Drop tune that low C# string to a B and then you have all the range of a 5 string bass plus a 6 string guitar.
I guess this type of guitar just isn't my cup of tea xD Thank you for the tip tough!
I'm. Still trying to master a 6 string. Lol. Nevermind 9 strings! Great effort tho Jass
Thank you Rick! The 9string guitar does mess with your brain though xD
I have her same hands size and I want an 8 string so this will serve as research, I guess 😌👌
I wish you loads of success conquering that axe! My your arm never hurt! 🤣
Maybe this would be a good opportunity to learn to djent! 😁👍
You did great for your first time in my opinion 😎👍
Thank you Matt! I am not much of a Djent player though xD I like Melo Death, Alternative Metal, this kind of stuff.
I have 3 seven strings I want a 8 string but 9 and 10 strings seem outrageous now I'm not against them at all in fact I love them I just don't think I'd be able to play them you are very good!!!!
Ooh I dig what you're wearing🤤 I tried a 7 string one time and I didn't like it. In fact to me it seems like any more than the standard 6 strings tends to sound like shit.
In fact I do love 7 string guitars, they are monsters of sound. But please... This smiley is suggesting I am something to eat.... Which is creepy. Please don't use it.
I don't play much but i can run a 6 inch long cord progression, high E 3rd fret, high B 5th fret, high G 7th fret, high D 8th fret, A open, E dropped to D. "tho i have it intonated for drop B from C# standard with the F#)... hmm?
Listen to Deftones if anyone wants to hear a 9-string in action. The latest album, Ohms, is what you’re looking for.
I feel like Deftones changed some things. Still just know them for "My Own Summer" 🙈
Such a fun video, the new editor did great. Also the playing on the 9-string sounded great to me. But the pain sounds not good. Thanks for trying :-P keep on the great work :-)
Thank you! I am happy how many do like the playthrough part =)
Funny. Over 7 strings is a bit ridiculous for me also. I hardly even go to the G or B and don't even install the high E haha I'm that bad.
As a 7 string player, I imagine its best to do tapping on a 9 or even 10 string axe. I mean, that just gives you both hands to make things go nuts
did you play the mahogany 7 string? the RGD
Eu queria ter a oportunidade de experimentar uma guitarra de 9 cordas algum dia.
I love extended range, but I put stickers over Ibanez necks with fifties dot inlays …
I have small hands too. And here I thought studio les Pauls were thick.
:D funny video! Good song!
The review is quite interesting. Along with 8-string and 9-string guitars that are perfect for down-tuned riffs. But in my opinion, the tool is very bulky, ideally 6, 7 with a perfect width of 3.4.The experiment with the game is certainly amazing, but…you still be kind, take care please 🎸🎸🎸
I just discovered 9string guitars aren't for me. I love 7 strings though!
@@JassyPabst Good evening Jassy 🎸 Yes agree, 7 strings is an actual option, in all respects, both in tuning and in sound. Nine strings RG9PB-TGF are quite enough to switch into bassist mode, or it can be individual riff parts that have a lowered order 🤘🏻
👍🤘💪
The struggle is real haha😂
That thing is just huge...
@@JassyPabst props for doing it though. I wouldn’t get that one LOL I’ll stick with 6 strings 😂
Holy Smokes! i think ill stick to 6 string guitars xD lol 9 strings would make me too furious and not fast at the slightest not even trying to shred and drift on any strings id be in too much of a fret :p haha jk but big like and keep up the amazing work! 🤟😎👍🎸🎶🙏🙏
It was an interesting experience though! I cannot complain xD
You did better than I did lol 30 years on a 6 string I got long fingers but just wasn't for me
It's always good to test things out though, right? =)
Hey just a heads up, Germans keep saying this, "Irritating" is not the same as "Irritierend" in German. Irritating in English is something that you find annoying and that angers you. It is never something that you find confusing.
Oh thank you so much! A false friend so to speak! Which word would you use then for this expression?
Just got my first one after transitioning from an 8. I absolutely love the range and feel of mine. Posted a video demo
Really cool! I don’t know what to think about this one, maybe it needs a second chance haha!
@JJ's One Girl Band Just takes some time to sit and play with it to get the feel of it all. You have to really be interested in it and want to I think, or have the interest to really get into it, definitely ain't for everyone. Super dope video though was good vibes!
@@kenny.m.olsen95 Thank you very much Kenny!
love how she says trying extended range and goes straight to the 9 and skips 7 and 8
That thing makes my guitar look like a washtub guitar! LMAO Just plug in the tin can and string headphones! 🤘
Maybe this guitar will give all those guys with regular hands an impression how big my struggle is with a 6string xD
6 is enough 7 for professional metal to be deeper why not, after it's too much, bravo tought
Thank you!
to set up 6 strings and tune them, was always enough for me lol 9 strings no thanks 😅 you were brave Jassy 👍
I felt stupid though when I tried to play on this guitar hahaha
@@JassyPabst haha =)
i skipped instantly to the play through part and i got slapped hard
With this guitar you can fire your bass player, you don't need that dude anymore!
xD How mean!
the fingerboard width is mostly close with chapman stick
That is true!
My small hands ached in sympathy before you'd even tried to play it! haha You didn't seem to have access issues with the lower strings (which I thought you might have after showing the size difference between your hands and the fretboard) and I think you played the guitar well, despite the achy arm.. I'm tempted to try a 9-string just for the experience, although I don't listen to songs with such low tunings (as notes tend to sound more like rumbles of thunder...) Could this be the start of a "Jassy Djents" series..... 🤣 (Disclaimer: I'm joking 100%!)
Listen to Deftones’ album Ohms. 9-string guitar, but not always “chug chug chug”. If you want to try smaller, listen to Koi No Yokan, which featured an 8-string guitar.
@@samuelhoysniemi2151 I wouldn’t hold my breath…
@@justinblair9661 I'll give them a listen!
@Samuel Höysniemi I've replied!
@Samuel Höysniemi Ah, okay :)
Next challenge for Jazzy have of cause to be a double neck guitar. 😁
ahahaha! I would love to test one of these out!
It's big indeed
and heavy. But still not as heavy and uncomfortable as I expected it to be.
Ah yes the guitar and bass all in one
you should to play misirlou on 9th string!
my poor arm
Sounding like Meshuggah there lol, great video. Respect to you playing that many strings
Really? I will take this as a compliment! Thank you =)
I feel like you did well
awww that means a lot!
-How did you enjoy this video?
-My arm hurts
😂
But my arm seriously hurts when I see this 9-string guitar. I have tiny hands too and as a beginner on 6-string guitar I can't imagine myself on this one. It looks so cool but I don't think I can play on it 😅
I mean if I could make it sound like something, anyone can! 😜
I think getting coordinated playing on extended strings would take some getting used to. I have a harder time playing in alternate tunings.
Oh really? This is interesting. Personally everything on a 6 string makes perfect sense to me. xD
@@JassyPabst I always play standard tuning. I have a 7 string that I play in standard. At work, we have an 8 string that I mess with sometimes. It's still weird to me though. But the second a guitar is in an alternate tuning and not just standard tuned low, I'm lost.
8’s are no easier.... but they’re good for finger exercises.
And they sound meaty. 💪🤘🔥
I bet! But I rather stay with 7strings xD
@@JassyPabst 7's are just as cool... ive been after one for a while.... i would like a 9 string too, but thats where i would stop. Those 10 string and bigger ones are unplayable really. 🙂🤘
Can't wait for Tosin Abasi to discover the shamisen and swing the trend the opposite direction.
9 strings are a bit of an overkill but it does sound cool.
If people enjoy it, then I can totally understand why! It's nothing for me though.
