I adopted a cat from a shelter that was horribly abused. When i brought him home, the first thing he did was go to a rocking chair that has a tweed like material and looked up at it crying. I gently set him on the cjair and he fell asleep. It was a spare chair but now it's his. I have other chairs for company but if someone needs the cat's chair its too bad.
When cats shake their heads that way it actually sometimes means "no:" and also he was pretending to be busy washing himself to try to discourage you from touching him. Long time cat owner and observer here.
He's really enjoying "your" chair.
