Alan, thanks for the photo tour. I went to the first 10 Clifftops, but haven't been able to go since. The still pics really bought back memories better than videos. Everything looks much the same, except now every square foot seems to be taken with tents, people and tunes! I have been grabbing every video I can find of this year's festival and I WILL be at next year's 25th annual! The chance for total immersion into the music for a week or more is the unique aspect of this event and it's glory!
Wish I did have all of this tune. It's one of my favorite versions. Heard it while walking around at night and not even sure who was playing. Recorded with video camera and stripped of the audio for this clip.
Re: the Elzic's Farewell tune, just listening to the fiddle and banjo's playing styles, it sounds like the Ithaca, NY group (Tara Nevins, Richie Sterns, Heatbeats, etc.). The bowing rhythms and drop-thumbs are very distinctive if you have heard them over the years. Almost a jazz sync. Check out some of their recordings and videos and you may hear a correlation. Definitely a more modern sound, but still in the tradition.
Great video, love to watch the videos and listen to the music.
Just wish I was there and part of it.
Thanks
I was there. Good job on the photos!

It is very special. I have found nothing like it. Hope to see you next year..

I enjoyed that! I know some of those Jax folks! Perhaps to meet you one day?
