A nice view of Camberwell depot. As a child we lived in Camberwell road a few hunderd metres from the junction. I loved to see the trams coming in and out. Between 1970 and 1980 Camberwell also served the tram route 72. Later it came to Malvern after the tram route 75 in the olden days number 74 was exitend from Burwood terminus.
Before 1970 tram route 72 was served by Malvern and had the route number 7.
Route number 72 was until 1970 in use for a short tram that only went on the track of number 70 and termed at Riversdale Station
There was also a set of curves that allowed access to Canberwell Depot from Burke Road.
Brilliant as always Brenden. Thanks for sharing some of your time at Camberwell depot. Awesome views from so many different points of view. The top view was pretty cool getting a nice angle of the B and A Class. Always love that particular humm of a B Class too. Always great to watch your vids, it's the closest thing to actually driving the trams. Looking forward to next weeks vids.
Great stuff! I love Melbourne and it's trams and always make sure I spend a day riding them when I visit!
like the B class , they look balanced with just the one articulation!
Cheers, Gregg .
FishplateFilms what do u mean b has 2
just brilliant love it
Thanks Mate!
Hey i noticed today that the b 2100 (i believe used to be 2102) has a plaque which says built by ABB as well as traction by AEG. Was this refurbishments? Also do you know why it was renumbered?
I’m curious, what was being done at 0:55? Was that points being locked in place? They seemed to already be set in the right direction.
I would have just been checking the points. They have may been set in the right direction but may not have been fully across and could have been split.
Do trains enter route service as soon as they leave the depot, or only when they get to one end of a route? In the latter case, my condolences to the people on the main street, as there’ll be so many teams passing them by.
Trams enter service at Hastings Road going to the City or Camberwell Junction to the suburbs. It's not practical or safe to have people running across the road to board a run out tram so the first stop away from the depot is the first pickup.
do all trams return to the same depot as it was dispatched from?
All trams are rostered from a particular depot so generally the tram returns to the depot it ran out from.
How many trams are actually there at Camberwell depot
I'll ask the question and get back to you.
I'm curious. Why was one set of tracks blocked by a gate? Why was there one set of points that had to be set manually? (Yarra's sobriety test perhaps?) And why don't they have a tram-activated traffic signal so that you can get in and out speedily?
I enjoyed this.
Many points are manual points when leaving the depots. Southbank, Kew, Essendon for example are all manual. Auto points entering the depot. I'm not 100% sure why they don't use the the track past the gate. I'll ask next time I'm out there.
Schony747 Regarding manual points, I'll stick with the "test" theory. ;-) Yarra wants to make sure that all drivers leaving the depot are capable of walking and standing upright without falling over....
In my days as a child (around 1970 till 1980) both tracks where on use. Also the tracks between Riversdale road an the depot where layed in gravel.
what time first tram out and last one in
423am is the first weekday service to Vermont South. Not sure of the last run in.
