Huge pet peeve! It’s Zed. We aren’t American and we don’t use American English. It’s a Zed class tram. Nothing about how “natural” it sounds. It’s wrong.
Yeah I definitely need to work on getting it right for voiceovers. Annoyingly I have already recorded the next voiceover as 'zee' but I will try to start using 'zed' after that
Hey there, I liked the video. Here’s a suggestion - for videos like this, it would have been useful if you had a picture of the tram network and then mark in the locations of the depots and highlight the relevant routes when you talk about them. It would be cool to visualise it like that. Just a suggestion to boost the production quality as your channel grows. I gave you a sub so I hope it helps and keep up the good work 😊
I would like to point some holes in your theory, Essendon depot has 55 trams (VicSig) which means at present at lockup it is full to bursting, most likely all will be replaced, with 82 & 57 out of Maidstone, and 58 & 59 out of Essendon. Malvern depot is also full, and cannot accommodate a one for one replacement for "Z" class trams, until they move a route out, most likely 72 with some track-work changes. Of the 45 G-class from the first batch (~200 more need to be ordered and delivered by 2032), I would guess Kew will get some to make 48 & 109 fully low floor, , and it would be good to see Camberwell get the rest for 72 & 75. As for order 2 it would be good to start at Glenhuntly. Or Brunswick could get the remaining G-class from the first order, as it is being expanded at the present.
I do think that the 75 needs the low floor trams the most. The accessible stops have been a waste for years without the required trams. Also the 16 would probably be easier to move out of Malvern as it already connects into Cotham Road towards Kew depot. I actually completely forgot about the Brunswick depot upgrade so it could happen but I think they would also have to build a lot of accessible stops on the 6 and especially 19 as well as the 1 to get some low floor trams there
@@BeastsTransport No room for another route at Kew, unless 109 is moved to Southbank, 19 is 90% low floor trams, just missing the accessible stops, but there is a protest movement trying to get that6 changed before the Upfield line "upgrade"
@@soulsphere9242 I think the budget says that the G-Class will be paid for between 2025 - 2025, so that is 25 a year, which means Essendon should be all low floor by the end of 2026.
@@WanderingBabs I would be amazed if they managed 25 trams per year. The E class was one a month and the whole delivery schedule ran 24 months behind initial plans. Are they doubling production capacity? There was also supposed to be 150 of the E class with production then cutting right over to the G class, but those 50 were canned and we now have a production gap. This happened because it became apparent that the network could not keep up with the E classes heavy power draw putting strain on the system. 50 more E and 100 G would bascially have seen off all of the Z3 and A class.
Im thinking if another route is added to William St they might swap G class to 58 instead of the E class. And move the E class to another route like 75 or 109 🤔 to replace the A classes currently on those routes. The hospital precinct would have more low floor tram capacity if the 59 becomes G class hence bigger E class will possibly be not required on 58 anymore, and may allow consolidation of the 58 at Essendon, which may simplify operations. E class on 109 would require the 109 to be transferred to Southbank from Kew, which may require a route to move out of southbank. Such as 12 to Kew or 96 to preston, the latter seemingly more likely. For the future of Malvern Im not sure B class will end up replacing z3 trams, if it did Malvern might need to get rid of its half of route 6 to Brunswick 🤔 due to likely space constraints. And potentially Malvern would also need to give Brunswick some d1 trams for route 1 and 6 to facilitate this I would be surprised if Essendon closed. East preston was replaced as it wasn’t needed after preston workshops was expanded, on that subject Preston workshops might potentially receive full operation of 96 from Southbank. Note this is definitely speculation just my thoughts.
The 58 will most likely be split into the 55 and 8 again once Anzac works are complete. The B class displaced from Essendon will more likely go to the south eastern depots than Southbank, as Southbank is also getting the G class along with Kew. This is most likely to get the high floors off Collins as the dwell times during peak get quite bad.
58 is not splitting back into the 8 and 55. The joining was not related to the Anzac works to begin with. Trams will almost certainly not return to Domain Road. After Maidstone, the next depot to get the G class will be Essendon.
@@soulsphere9242 Domain Rd at the St Kilda Rd end has been under construction for some time, with a new tram interchange being built there that links up to Anzac underground. New signals are in place, and the cycles have recently changed in preparation for allowing trams to run in & out of Domain Rd. It's all quite close to being ready to go.
@@milkymoocowmoo I am aware of the new station interchange, everyone is. I have passed the works hundreds of times, but not since late last year. If they have restored the track connection there must have been a change of mind, because the plan last year was to not return trams to Domain Road as they have a perfectly suitable Toorak Road interchange, which I guess now would become redundant.
58 isn't becoming 100% E class. There isn't enough at Southbank to cover that. There also isn't enough depot space to close Essendon, so that definitely isn't happening. The 57 and 82 will move to Maidstone, the 58 and 59 will stay at Essendon with the 58 eventually consolidating at Essendon. All will eventually become G class routes. The 58 at that point will probably lose its E class. This frees up E class trams at Southbank...potentially could end up on the 109, but who knows?
Yeah I definitely suspected that the 58 wont become entirely e class without removing them from another route. As for the 109, I believe it will later be served by G class trams or may become entirely C class. If the E class is removed from the 58 I reckon they could end up on the 19 or 75
From what I heard Essendon will remain open and be allocated G class trams while Maidstone will get the majority of them since Maidstone will become the main centre of maintaining and servicing the G class. Essendon's B2's will most likely go to Camberwell, Brunswick and Glenhuntly to finally retire their smaller trams, I didn't hear anything about B2's going to Kew, Malvern or Southbank since their drivers aren't qualified to operate B2's. There isn't enough E class trams to operate the 58 exclusively so Essendon will need to remain open and not to mention Southbank does not have adequate space to operate 58 entirely. Speculation that G class will eventually service 58 anyway but who knows.
I believe B class trams have operated on the 12 before which I think happened in 2021. As I did speculate there wont be enough Es so I can see G class trams rolling out on the 58 in the later years
