Spectrum is pretty decent this time round. Now the Apple II, there's a port! lol it is actual genius, the music, the way the sprites move and look......top notch entertainment
I only ever played the NES version, but I love how the arcade versions are graphically different for the US and Japan to accurately represent the cultural differences! That is so cool!

On top of that, I only knew one person with a Master System, and another with an Amiga. Literally everyone had the NES. The one that always gets me is the Speccy. You European folks love that thing. Is it nostalgia or am I missing something. I'm asking constructively. It's not a shot.
The Speccy was a very early computer which was the most affordable, in a time (1982) when computing was for people with cash. It brought computing to so many people who grew up programming with it (Rare etc). At this time the main console was the Atari. As an aside, the Commodore 64 sold it's most units in the USA.
I first played this game with the japanese arcade version, i loved it. I then played the other western Renegade versions. My favourites are the Master System port, the Amstrad one, the ZXSpectrum one, and maybe the NES version.
Even if Renegade is officially a Kunio-kun reskin/localization/port, are the differences significant enough to make it a different game entirely? I've beaten the arcade version on Anstream using absolutely shameless levels of save scumming, and I have an interest in exploring the Kunio-Kun series along with the two Renegade sequels, so I'd like to know an answer to this. The two Renegade sequels (Target: Renegade and Renegade III) are definitely not Kunio-Kun games. But should Renegade be slated to that series separately from Kunio-kun? Not being a version purist who considers localizations to be games unrelated to their parent titles or series, but I'm just asking here.
Fun fact, my old speccy version has got a move that my amstrad friends haven't, on speccy, you can easily pass 1st n 2nd level by lunch foes out of the limits
Spectrum version is the first version I ever played (and the only one until fairly recently). My frame of reference is based on that version so anything else feels a bit wrong. Target Renegade is brilliant but the third one (time travel? really?) was pretty ropey.
I usually prefer Japanese versions of games. Most the time I prefer Famicom versions over NES versions. Powerblade and Renegade are exceptions. I like the USA 1950’s atmosphere over the Kunio Kun Japanese atmosphere. It’s unique especially because it’s also something different from the westernized arcade.
I'm impressed with the sms version lots of fast smooth animations, great sprite work,nice details and very colorful.
Amstrad version looks so good considering the limitations of the machine.

Atari ST is slightly better than the Amiga here as it runs a bit quicker. The Amiga is like 5 fps.

Arcade and ZX Spectrum version wins (the japanese version of the arcade game is cooler than the western one). Amiga version is overrated IMO.
Amstrad version is the best of 8 bits computers ;)
