I totally forgot what I came to your channel for...Your intro to this video is by far the Best I've seen. Thanks for the tip and love the humorous side to those pesky little guys..😆
Thank you for this trick/hack! We're a vegetarian home so we have LOTS of fruits and veggies and I tell ya, those fruit flies/gnats are a pain in the butt! LOVE your channel! 💜
I do a similar trick- but I use a plastic cup and a piece of rotting fruit to attract them and cover it with wax paper. I put one hole in the center and once they go in they can’t figure out how to come back out. I feel like the rotting fruit attracts the flies better than vinegar. Then when it is full I throw out the whole thing and make another one. I don’t want to clean out all those yucky dead flies 😜 lol
Had never had an issue with fruit flies before...until a nice neighbor shared some over ripe mangoes with us...I put on counter but by next morning, we had been invaded badly! I did the same thing only I used apple cider vinegar, but doesn't matter...yes, it does work!
I use a clear plastic cup/clear solid lid, about a 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar, I put 2 tiny holes in the side of the cup about an inch above the acv, they go in & can't find their way out, they usually go to the top of lid, tire out & fall right into the acv, dump it when necessary! When I'm done with it for the season, dump it outside, wash it out, & use it the next season. The DQ ice cream sundae clear plastic bowl with the tall lid works great :) This also works well for trapping those tiny manure/compost/dirt gnat/flies, that hatch over the winter, just split & drop in a really ripe cherry tomato into the acv, dont set it close to ya, because it gets pretty stinky 🤭
i love this easy fix. But I have had better luck with cider vinegar I tried white it just didn't work as fast. I also don't cover it it seems to just be easier with out a cover. thanks for the reminder to use this i just started getting fruit flies here in NY state from all the tomatoes & other fruit.
Here in Florida fruit flies is a year round issue. I bought fruit fly traps at home depot, but reuse them over and over. Apple cider vinegar, water and a drop of dish soap. Those plastic apples live permanently on my counter.
I hope the traps helped you out while you were canning! Sometimes, I have to eliminate all other fruits, etc. that will attract them before they are attracted to the trap.
I've discovered they love coffee.... Cant sit my cup down because those little buggers cannon ball right in lol. Also last week I found they had layed eggs inside the one cup portion of my coffee pot.... in between the plastic filter and the other piece that lifts out. Grrrrrr

I make them the same way as you and they work wonderfully. I don’t dilute with water either.
Intro was hilarious!
That's a very good idea.

Thankkkkkkk youuuuuuu.
I just had to use this tip because I have a ton of flies from my seedling pots that are indoors.

I'm canning apples today so I have a trap made up to get those little pesky creatures!!!
