    I see the guys over at RVA doing that during their cutting demos as they take turns handing the katanas to each other. I can't for the life of me figure out why they wouldn't just put a table or stand nearby and set the sword down so the next person can pick it up. It's faster and exponentially safer.

      Those guys definitely know how to handle their swords. So, if is discussed that they will hand them over quickly with each other between cuts, it is fine. This video posted here is more for formally handing over swords, when it is not with trusted friends casually cutting, etc.
