I have one (2023). First improvement is to remove the "safety" bar that you climb over to get into the driver's seat. If not you will feel violated by the UTV (goosed) when getting into it. The big improvement is the new designed information center. Especially the ability to see your fuel level and what gear you are in. One other thing to know is to push the shift lever completely forward when placing it in low gear. Before attempting to accelerate continue to push the shifter forward until you feel it engaging into low gear. If not it could possibly jump into high gear if partially engaged and jumping into high gear and bending the shift forks. BTW, It has never gotten stuck .yet. I recently purchased the newest version (2024), the Axis 550. Holy smokes what a difference! just as Joe stated it is a completely different animal. The latest version is built with what appears to be a high degree of quality in all aspects overall. The older one is very well built as well. Each has it's place in the market.
4 years ago, I bought a 16 year old Yamaha Rhino...that ran and drove, for $1300. Looked rough. Cleaned it up...did the service and maintenance that it had not recieved...replaced the parts that were questionable. Put another $2400 in it...including cool wheels and tires, lights, and a windshield. Total cost...$3700 and it looks better, and runs as good as a new....$11000 UTV. We use it to to run around our "lake community" and launch our ski boat with. We love it!!! No need to spend a lot of $$$. Turn some wrenches, and use the money that you save, on ski boat gas, snd BBQ'S!!!!
Glad to see this video! We just purchased that model last summer, watching @Woodz Walker ride his around the mountains in Kentucky was what swayed me. So far we love it, took the bar off the drivers seat, put Amazon LED bulbs n the headlights, don’t super love the shifter but it can be adjusted if it starts acting up. It will climb some unbelievable banks as well, we keep it in low around the house and trails unless going over 20 consistently. And yes it will tear up the yard! Fortunately I don’t live where it matters too much. Be looking forward to you putting it through the tests!
Enjoy the content. I use a 2003 John Deere Gator 4x6 on my 85 acres. It hauls everything I can load in the back, has a hydraulic dump bed, and will easily pull a utility trailer around the property. It doesn't have heat or AC, doesn't have a cab, and the plastic fenders are beat and cracked. I paid $3k for it in 2012 and had to put a new fuel pump on it in 2024. I change the oil every couple of years, whether it needs it or not, and have replaced spark plugs 2 times. When we have big dove shoots, I have friends who show up with $25k Rangers and such. Nothing really wrong with that, but I can buy a darn decent 4x4 truck for less than those things.
Hey! The Gator is the original player in the space. Way before it's time. I love the big expensive machines, but my wallet doesn't! Lol. It's nice to see a machine like this that is probably close to $7k with so many SIMPLE features. But, it is a dinosaur compared to it's more expensive peers. Appreciate you watching!
Hey! It's definitely not as refined as your BigHorn, but it's also a lot less expensive. I was pretty impressed with it and am really looking forward to working on the farm. Thanks for watching and hope you are well too!
Hey Joe. That’s exactly the same side by side that I bought in 2015. The price then was 7,000.00 plus tax. This is some of the things I didn’t like. No power steering. I had to have a shoulder reversal and that sorta ended my driving it. That little bar between the door and seat, I took it off. That box between the seats, so much hot air comes up through the cab that in the summer time I had to stop and get out for awhile lol. Now everything else I had no problem. The winch was strong. It pulled good in two wheel and four wheel drive. On the highway it would run thirty five to forty mph. I think it was well worth the money. That beats 30-40 grand for one lol. Thanks for sharing, Joe.
I love this feedback! I have heard the complaints about the heat in the center console. Power steering would be nice in it; but like you said...it is CHEAP and a lot for the money. Most of us are looking for something with a bit more amenities...but for the low price alternative I like it! Just wish I didn't tear up the tire on day one. Lol
I have a 2023 Polaris Ranger 570 Full Size. It is strictly utilitarian, hauling, occasional trailer pulling, equipment toting, navigating around my property. No bells or whistles to distract me from the task at hand, and I like it that way. It's great that there's a choice out there for "different strokes for different folks."
Thanks for sharing your experience with the Ranger 570. Do you recall what it sold for? Really just curious. And I'm with you, I enjoy the simple machines! Take care
@@JoeTheFarmer Total sales price after adding a factory roof and 4000 lb. winch, sales tax, delivery, and doc fees came to $17,300. I added a polycarbonate windshield and mudguards bringing the price up to almost twice the cost of your Hisun machine featured here. Ouch!
I have a 2020 Hisun 500 I have had it for 4 years now and have worked the mess out of it, it’s still running strong, I put LED headlights on it took the speed limiter out of it and put 14 gram weights in the clutch, and it has plenty of torque to hit the trails with, love this machine.
Hey Randy, thanks for the feedback. Lots of folks that have these machines seem to love them. I was shocked by how well it drives and handles itself. Looking forward to more work with it! Appreciate you watching!
As a retired Gas Company man living on a limited pension and SS. My budget would allow me this. And I could be very satisfied with it. Thanks Joe good review 👍
Joe I have one but it is a Massemo 500. I bought it in 2017 and it is still working. The bed cracked, but still works. It is not like the new ones, but it does what I need it for on my farm. I have a golf cart that I use more .
I think this machine is great for getting work done. The fancy machines are AWESOME but these simple machines are what most of us can afford. Would love to see a pic of your 500!
We bought our Massemo 500 from Tractor supply and drove it for 5K miles on road and off down the middle of brooks and never failed even with plowing snow !Was $7999.00 new then sold it for $4,500
Thanks for the review Joe. Something of great value that you didn’t mention is the fact that this machine appears to come standard with all items required to make it street legal and ready to register for street use in some states. The legal use of side by sides on streets is very convenient for many folks. My Honda 1000-6 Pioneer requires a good bit of additional spend to qualify it for street use. Can anyone in the Joe Farmer community share their experience of registering the Hisun 500/Axis 500 in their state for street use?
Excellent points Tim, thanks for sharing that. It is a great benefit to be able to register the vehicle. I think for 7-8k there is a whole lot of machine for the money. You have a nice one in the Pioneer 1000. My father in law has one. Very nice; but yes…expensive.
Great video Joe! Awesome affordable side x side! I have a 2009 Kawasaki 610 comparable to this one, more plain Jane than the Hisun, but what a work horse.
This would be all I would need on my small place(6 acres). Just something to carry my saws and essentials, fencing, etc, or a trip out to my gun club for hauling tools and materials to maintain our muzzleloader trail walk. I have no need need(or use) for an LCD screen, Bluetooth, backup cameras, or any of those other fancy, foo-foo things. I also don't need a 1000cc machine. I don't have a need for a camouflage wrap either. The only thing I didn't care for was how far inset the hitch attachment was, in case I needed to pull a small trailer. Maybe that was just an effect of the camera lens distorting distance. Value priced is a subjective term, especially for those living on SSI/SSDI. Anyway, another enjoyable video.
Great video. I am curious do they build them at the same plant in Texas. Alot of the videos I watched before I bought my machine said there were lose bolts every where. I have a massimo. Because I have more time than brains I have been all over my machine and have yet to find anything lose. I did factory maintenance for a living.
Hey Dale, this is assembled by Hisun in Texas...but if it was a Massimo it would likely be assembled by Massimo. Massimo has done a terrific job of quality control and like you, I am yet to find a PDI issue with a Massimo with the exception of the 1000. That was PDI'd by TGB which and was so new. They should have caught those issues. This machine arrived tight and in perfect shape without loose bolts, etc. BUT, they probably knew where it was going so may be different for others. They have been around for so long I can't really dial in when they were first put out for sale! Your existing machine is a beast, great rig. But yes, a multi seat machine is a tall order when you are riding solo most of the time. An ATV is great; but they lack the storage and seating, roof, doors, etc. But love riding them.
