LOL 'this is not a long term plan' I love it! Nice video Joe. Best of luck to all new tractor owners. Happy New Year! Oh and yeah I guess it does look a little odd with shiny new tractors under the 800 year old barn! :0 And I agree that a true front 3rd function is much better than a diverter valve! Good call! Yep totally agree when it comes to fighting getting hydraulic lines attached! Seems that by now they'd have figured an easier way for us! Thanks Joe
Thanks for the video. Not sure if anyone explained it, but what you said about turning the key to accessory and working through controls to relieve the pressure is accurate. The problem you were having is that when you are going to take a grapple off, first close the top mouths so that they are resting and aren't going to sag over time. Then shut the tractor down and do the accessory switch and movements to relieve pressure on the grapple side before you disconnect. It doesn't completely make sure you won't have problems when you reconnect, but it takes care of it most of the time. The sun will still heat up the fluid in the grapple, then cool it back down again, so there will still be some build up or vacuum sometimes.
A few thoughts, for folks just starting out on a small property, look into a walking tractor like Grillo or BCS. I LOVE my little BCS. Next step up for me would be a used 2wd tractor with a few 3 point implements according to your desires. Something like a Massey Ferguson 245. If you can get into the 20-40k price tag then you can start talking about modern tractors with a front end loader and all the stuff. If you want to lift heavy things and box blade steep mountain driveways in West Virginia, go big. If price was no object I would add the Ventrac and/or AVANT platform to the tractors.
Assuming that it comes with the loader and bucket already, pallet forks, grapple and some kind of mower. In my instance I went with an articulating offset flail mower capable of doing all types of mowing I would need. I also went with a land plane and a stump bucket. Planning on getting a roto tiller next spring. If I hit a good lottery jackpot, then I'll go ahead and get a backhoe for it. 😉🚜
Offset flail would be awesome. Would love to try one of those. The Baumalight flail is like a battleship; but they don't offer and offset. It's nice not having the machine in harms way. Happy New Year!
@@JoeTheFarmer It is awesome being able to do my ditches quickly and safely. Even with the hammer blades, it cuts the lawn almost as well as a finish mower while still being able to cut 2 inch diameter material for most bush hogging needs.
Joe just turn the key on without starting the tractor and cycling the functions will relieve the pressure every time. Definitely 3 things I wouldn't buy a tractor without. Rear Hydraulics and a Hydraulic top link is also another thing I can't live without. Hope your weekend is Good 👍
I tried that and it still wouldn’t relieve the pressure. It was in the grapple, not the tractor. Got it done and no four letter word were used! Lol. Appreciate you friend.
I'd love to have a grapple for our little tractor but they're very pricey along with having the third function added on. Our yard is only a half acre so at this moment in time a grapple isn't really needed. We went for a tractor with a loader because the bucket was the main thing we needed for scooping and moving dirt. As well as cleaning out the chicken coop. It's been handy for moving around objects too heavy to lift as well as making it more efficient for bringing coal bags in downstairs. Indeed of huffing and puffing bring a single bag back and forth like before we can just load up 12 bags on the bucket and park the tractor right outside the door. The first implement we got with the tractor was a box blade for helping with the yard. Our two recent implements we've gotten for it are a tiller which we haven't gotten to use yet and just recently, a front mounted snow blower. We got the tiller at the end of the season so we haven't got to try it out yet. Our snow has been weird this winter but I've gotten to try out the new snow blower at least once so far. I would like to get a hydraulic top link fitted onto it one day along with a quick hitch. Those two things for me would be more important than a third function. I'd wait until I've gotten a bigger machine for a third function. Especially since we have 12 acres we want to put a new house on. :)
All excellent points and a great example of how you can make the tractor perfect for your needs. The hydraulic top link is a game changer with a box blade and tiller. You will love that! Thanks for watching!
Good morning....With that much land there is zero chance I would tear either the barn or silo down. They can park that camper at my place. Had the dealer install the 3rd function on my T394. Finally got a grapple and it's a real game changer for cleaning up brush., hasn't been off the tractor since. I'm surprised a tractor company hasn't offered up a tractor with a standard grapple in lieu of a bucket. Have a good weekend.
@@JoeTheFarmer You’re welcome…. I enjoy the content and have learned a lot from it. For those that made it all the way to the end of the video my comments fit in, otherwise I sound like a madman.
🤣🤣🤣. Made sense to me! As for the barn; it’s hard to keep that structure in the prime place where there is already a road, power and a well. Prob should have mentioned that. We shall see!
Great video, Joe. Looks like you have the right setup for your farm. The one barn, or building you said maybe about rebuilding had some really good looking material in it. Thanks for sharing and have a happy New Year!l
Hey Joe Nice work! I agree regarding the options. I use pallet forks most. I would probably keep the old barn until you have plans and funds to replace it. Merry Christmas / Happy new year! God speed!🇺🇸🚜
Hey buddy; yeah old barn stays until I can get a plan on a new one. Pallet forks are probably the best tractor attachment there is. Use them all the time also. God Bless and Happy New Year!
I didn't hear how old the wood the barn is built out of is, but there are some folks out there who would pay you good money for old wood like that. If you are interested in taking it down, you could probably sell the tin and make a little change.
Unfortunately I think it's old enough to rot; but new enough to not be worth much. I will absolutely make sure to evaluate the value before taking it down. But great advice and thank you for taking an interest. Appreciate you watching!
Great video Joe! I agree a loader is the #1 attachment for a tractor! The #1 tractor is John Deere! LOL! Just kidding, there are a lot of good tractors on the market! I purchased John Deere because of dealership location and parts and service. My John Deere dealership is great to work with.
I take a small brass hammer and tap the nipples on the ends of the hoses after trying to relieve the pressure other ways. Once that nipple is pushed in and the pressure is fully relieved it’s no problem connecting them.
Hey Bob. I would negotiate them at the time of purchase. Then they would fall under the original warranty and they know how to set it up better than anyone. Thanks for watching!
I'd keep the silo if it's sound. Just makes a farm look like a farm. I've been it alot of barns even though they look good doesn't mean they are. We have termites here and I'm sure they have enjoyed that barn more than you. Happy new year 🎉.
The silo is very cool. And I agree, gives it a nice aesthetic. But really has no utility anymore. We shall see! Appreciate you Dale. Thank you so much for the support over the year. Happy New Year!
Well, as you and ole Kapper have to have every creature comfort feature there is...I'm making it just fine with my old 1981 Ford model 7600 diesel open cab tractor with NONE of the features you guy's have to have. Just have to figure out how to do all the same things on the property with what you have. But I'm glad you younger guys are enjoying all there is out there to make things you're doing lots easier!!
@@JoeTheFarmer Hey JTF, I have the ac all figured out---its open flow wind in the face and the radio is me singing to myself. Good luck this next year and enjoy all your creature comforts!!!
I noticed the grapple was open when you unhooked it last. Wonder if the weight of the upper arms is causing the pressure in the grapple line. I wonder if you closed your grapple before unhooking next time, if it would keep from getting pressure built up in the grapple line? no idea.. worth a try.
I would agree with your thoughts of taking down the barn. The money you would invest in rehabbing a worn out building would go quite a ways towards building a new structure that would better suits your needs. I bought a grapple for my Kubota B2601. Best purchase I have ever made for the tractor. Holy cow! It's amazing how much more work I was able to get done clearing some fence rows. I added the 3rd function myself. It wasn't too bad. Dealer said it should take an hour or so, ended up taking me about 5 hours, that was fine. My time on a Saturday wasn't that expensive. And it works perfectly.
Thanks for the feedback; and agree on the barn. Tough to take something down that has some value but I’m not one to just let something fall down. Appreciate the feedback on the third function. Good to know. I have just tried to negotiate it when buying a tractor. Sometimes it works. Lol. Have a very Happy New Year!
Great video!!
Thank you!
Nice! Big difference between my Kioti with 3rd function and my b-inlaws Kioti with diverter. SSQA is a must for sure
Yep! I prefer the 3rd function too; so much easier. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!

Nice tool kit for $100. All you need to get you outa trouble in the field.
It’s a great kit for the price! Was shocked man. Thanks for watching brother; Happy New Year!

Pretty much what I had to do. Never should have left the cylinders out. Totally on me.
Looks like that grab bar doubles as a structural support for the top. Or maybe it's doubling as a grab bar.
I don't know, but it has whacked me in the head for the last time! Lol. Small problem with an easy fix. Thanks for coming along!
