Yes we usually use 6 or 8lb leader. As long as it’s quality fluorocarbon leader like Sufix, 6lb will be good. Keeps it hard for the fish to see but still good and strong. It’s a common misconception that you need heavier because the fish weighs more than 6lb, but as long as you don’t lift the fish out of the water and have your drag set correctly you’ll be just fine. Favourite combo at the moment is the Okuma Inspira 2000 and Okuma Tournament Concept X rod. Really good value for money. Of course, you can go up in price from them to a UXR or Nanomatrix if budget allows
Thanks for the tips. Quick question, what size hooks on the jig heads are you using? Also, when visiting New Zealand, is there a tackle shop that you recommend? One that would have these tackle and maybe tackle for egg drifting.
Size #1 hooks by TT Lures (HeadlockZ). Hunting and Fishing is probably your best bet. It’s a nationwide retailer with all of this gear in the South Island stores
Depends on how much you want to spend. The Okuma Nanomatrix paired with the Okuma Ceymar is really good bang for buck. I prefer the 2 piece rod but the 4 piece is awesome if you value portability
Got love soft baiting
It’s such a fun way to fish for the big ones!
@@theanglerslogbook yeah sure is
Awesome vid
The Leader line you are using is 6lbs right. Won’t it break when fish fights? Also what size jig set is good for salmon fishing?
