Morning bud your honesty is so pleasing to witness time and time again. A dealer actively trying to show a tiny knock sound to customer is unheard of anywhere else. Opposite infact and they'd turn radio on to mask any sounds and say nothing unless buyer picks up on it. Well worth a train journey from anywhere in UK to purchase a vehicle from yourself 👌

I echo the appreciation of the honesty 👏
Years ago I went and looked at a vehicle, loud popping sound from underneath in the middle so got under the car and tell tale signs of soot along the exhaust. Put my hand there and could feel the gases escaping and could even stop them by lifting the exhaust slightly.
Apparently it wasn’t an exhaust leak but in fact standard for all vehicles to make that noise and leak gas when the exhaust system is cold.
I walked and I think other people started to realise as well as that car sales place was only around for another 6 months after that
      Keep up the good work

That Volvo is gold. D5’s are good for 3-400k, they just need the occasional intercooler, air con condenser, top / bottom engine mounts and nothing much goes wrong except the usual alarm fault (corroded internal battery), seizing calliper’s and steering angle sensor. Tend to eat front tyres too. Great stereo, seats, power and economy, especially with the manual box. Beware if a slipping clutch because with the DMF it’s a £1k job 😮

    • @paulf2529
      @paulf2529 Рік тому +1

To sort the alarm, you need to replace the alarm control module. It is under the passenger side wheel arch and a straightforward enough fix.
The part itself is about £160 plus around an hour of time.
It has a backup lithium battery inside, and this basicly corrodes over time, causing the fault code or occasionally the alarm to chirp.

@@paulf2529 I did look into changing it a few years ago but never got round to it as not cheap. I just took the siren fuse out, and tend to lock with key so as not to activate alarm. Yes. Correct. I have 2 back a year. Dec to Feb this year 4. All buyers regret all old cars no drivetrain faults. Lied about breakdowns on 1. Another cheap Px returned no reason lied to on subframe rust. A door that had sunk we lifted for a lock. Lied to on 3 tyres, were all 6/7 mm not 1.6 mmm told. and a Beetle on 138k miles they took for a 150 point check and service but was 15 stamp service on a 2006 VW and they had already returned one new car. What is wrong with all these people. If you want new buy new. Used to have cars back only MBO. Major mechanical breakdown only. Cost of living crisis. Bringing them back like it’s in car entertainment on a new car. None anything other than start on the button great to drive. Worst was a door lock. Couple rust needed no weld just brushing off. All cars presented nicely between a Saturday and a Monday had change mind. Don’t buy old if not into bangernomics. Buy new.

Had a service tech bulletin for my Mazda RX8 , now i hadn't noticed it until i'd read the bulletin, but with the car off you could notice a very slight knock through the wheel , and it was slight.
The cure was to grease the UJ on the column and part of the sliding tube that has splines for the adjustable wheel.

On the Volvo, check the front windscreen for leaks. My S40 (2009) has a leak and water was getting in at the top and down the passenger side pillar. Luckily I've caught mine early and the footwell was only damp, not soaked. Mines been taken out and re sealed next week. Aparantly it's common on Volvo's around that age, they didn't apply enough primer/glue at the factory and the seal fails as time goes on. Keep up the good work, love watching your videos 👍🙂

I like my rear wheel drive Volvos. Had a 1986 740GLE in 2002. Paid £425, kept for 5 years. Next was a new Corolla for a few years. Then in 2009 bought a 1989 240GLT Auto estate for £350 with 159,410 miles. Had that for 8 years as the only car and then bought a 1996 Volvo 940 LPT auto estate for £250. 2.3 litre B230FK engine. Sold the 240 2 years later for £500 with 234,000 miles. Still ran perfect. The 940 I still have. Had no major issues, just service and age related cooling/rad hose changes. Easy to DIY service. Also have a 2015 Toyota Auris Hybrid. Cheap to run and zero tax atm. Believe 2025 rising to £10 per year. Prefer the character and driving of my 940.

In the £290 tax band the volvo. Probably £300/£305 after April. I'm not happy mine is probably going to be £190 after then to. I'm keeping mine off the road for now. And with the price of diesel being 20p + a litre I'm almost tempted to give it up all together. And I also can't drive it into Bristol

Cheap road tax is thing of the past. Everything that was going to be free of £30 is now going up. If we all moved to £30 cars they would just make those £300. The revenue has to come in. Just drive what you want I say.

I'd deffo want to sort out a knock on the steering bud, tbh doesnt matter if its 20k,or 200k, you'll be absolutely for it if anything happens, needed a recon rack, telling the customers no good, it's not like say a missing headrest it's a serious safety issue, in the 80s I sold some lads a car, they went off the road, hit a pillon, got fried, made all the papers, if that car had been at fault I'd have got jail time, had a fusion the other week, broken spring went into the tyre, had an alto and the strut actually rusted thru, suspension collapsed, I was lucky to get away with it, actually fitted a new strut at the side of the road.

Petrol and Diesel Cars are a total nightmare mate i think things will be easier when we all go Electric but the problem then is all the mechanics will be out of business only tyre brake and suspension places will be left like Kwik Fit and Halfords , so this could be why a lot of mechanics ive been to always are up to dodgy tricks to get more cash from the customers , I cant blame them as they are milking it while they can as come 2030 no more petrol or diesel cars sadly.
