    This is following Lawrance Waldren's jaws design which by my humble opinion is second to none from a mechanical perspective.
    Here in the miserable South-East of Europe we have a lot of garage made replicas of that design.
    The only drawback that I see here is the tension knob not being ambidextrous but being left handed is never easy whatsoever!
    Cheers!

      But we ( lefties) always adapt and overcome. I'm sure the jaws are CNC milled. Sould be an easy program change to make at least a few of these each year and I've thought of contacting FNF about doing that.

      @@ross1458Sure, just mirroring the CAD design wouldn't be an issue. Though I'm so used to reaching for the 'back' side of the jaws that it doesn't hurt anymore.

    Great Vice! I've been using that vice about one year and I am not going to change it ever. No extra "widgets and sprockets", that's good👍

    I have tied on Renzetti traveler for yrs. Upgraded to the blackout edition. I have a HMH TRV that works great but the rotary knob is just way to big. Will probably put up for sell. GF just bought me Renzetti Master in green #029-G from FFF. Love it. But I will have one of these!! Happy Tying Thanks for the review

    Superior vice for sure. I also tie on a Dyna King and a Renzetti traveller. I like the Dyna for big fly hook holding power and the Renzetti traveller for smaller flies - like trout flies. The Talon has solid hook holding power for larger flies and the jaw design allows for smaller flies too. Quality and durability is excellent, the base is super stable. My only gripe is that as a left handed tier, there is no option to put the hook tightening knob on the opposite side of the jaw, or a left handed option. Maybe it’s silly, it’s certainly not a deal breaker but for high end tools, perhaps it should be available. Regardless, it’s a superior product and would highly recommend if you have the means.

    Very nice vise. I am tying on a HMH TRV now and I have a problem from time to time on seating smaller hooks. Does the FNF have the same problem? What is the cost of this vise and are they available?

    What hook range can it hold? and would you consider it to be an upgrade from a Renzetti Traveler 2300?

      I just purchased my Talon serial number 138 recently.. Curtis is on 004. They don't mass produce these like others.. the Lawrence Waldron "Law" vise is the pinnacle in the industry and isn't made anymore.. it's the most sought after vise on the planet.. next most desirable vise is Lawrence's part 2 venture with Snowbee ie the Snowbee Waldron vise. It also is no longer made. FNF smashed the Law vise and the Snowbee together and came up with a new #1. I purchased mine for just north of $1200.00. Number two would be the Renzetti Master vise then everything else by Renzetti. Regal is debatable as number 2. I think number 3, Dynaking is right there too, but then the whole thing is personal preference at the end of the day.

      @@timg2798I tied on a dyna king barracuda for 15 yr, went through 3 sets of jaws and not a fan of the adjustment knob on it. Currently have Renzetti master and Regal revolution with all the heads. Both are very good in certain types of tying, I use them both. Been looking at this one for a while trying to justify it ! lol

    Only right handed? Can you switch the tension screw/knob over to the opposite side for left hand use?

    • @TedJ71
      @TedJ71 11 місяців тому +1

      That was my thought, as I’m left handed. Then thought just rotate the jaws 180 deg tighten the knob and rotate it back. Actually I think it’s better with the knob on the backside out of the way ! Now trying to justify it , have a Renzetti master and Regal revolution with all the heads ! For holding power that regal in big game head and monster head hard to beat, never had a hook slide out. The Renzetti I have, mostly use it for smaller trout flies, love it for dries n midges.

      @tedj3415 You have some serious vises 👌 I like your idea of having the tensioner knob on the opposite side, out of the way. Makes sense, at least to me.

      @@FlyFishFood A.K. Best is probably the best fly tier in America and he uses a Dynaking to tie several thousand flies a year. I don't tie production and what I need will be different from most of you. I do tie some very big things for Musky and bass, so I'm looking at 2.0 and 4.0 hooks. A lot of vises are claimed to hold a 4.0 or even a 6.0 hook, but they don't when you put a lot of pressure on the hook. A Regal will! Also at half the price

      Dyna kings are really bad at holding medium sized hooks.

    • @garytotty3971
      @garytotty3971 11 місяців тому

      most end users will argue your point. I've tied on the Dynaking using 4 thru 12 a little bit with extremely tight Kevlar thread without a hitch. The Regal was just as good if not slightly better. My Renzetti holds about every size hook I have well, but mine also does not have the "cam locking head" (it's old). I have not tried anything smaller than a #20 hook with it because I can't see that well in my old age. @@FlyFishFood
