hey man, just found your channel. love the content! I got my 96 XJ in August 2020 and just finished a completely cutting out and welding in new floor pans and cargo area. Next step is the actual fun mods and upgrades (and making the outside look nicer).
@@KCars Well, just to get it inspected I had to replace the front grill plastics and lights plus all the body work. I changed the yellow/orange side markers out for clear. I plan on installing a blue plaid headliner, redoing the entire sound system, installing a roof rack, re-upholstering the seats, and maybe installing some steel bumpers (nothing super heavy or crazy offroad oriented). Also at some point I'll need to repaint the hood, replace the front shocks, and raptor line the lower door panels as the black pain is starting to chip. She already has a 3inch lift so tires too!
Don’t replace the bumper end caps yet until you try this! I bought a 2001 xj recently and my friend recommended that I wave a blow torch over the sun damaged spots and the original black will come right back out. I thought it was a crazy idea but It worked really well. I honestly recommend using a heat gun and slowly waving it over the sun damaged spots. My brother did that on his maroon moped that turned pink in the sun and now it honestly looks new again.
My red 96 XJ had pealing clear coat all over it and i was able to fix that by wet sanding with 1000 grit till all the clear was gone then just had the clear redone.
@@KCars I don't have it anymore but it came out great yeah. I sold that one in 2018 and just got my white 96 and 2000 XJs over the last 2 years. media.discordapp.net/attachments/830877079565893644/862915819725520936/20181124_162310.jpg
@@KCars Ive had 3 in total its my favorite year as its the last year for the pre-chrysler 84-96 AMC Exterior and Interior styling but still does have OBD2. That being said 91-95 are good years to even though they are OBD1 and they work with those $10 Ebay OBD1 to OBD2 adapters so you can use modern scan tools on them. 95 was the first year you could get a driver side air bag to although its optional 96 is the first year it was standard equipment the older models use GM Tilt steering wheels and GM 3 spoke steering wheels which are nice on the older models to. I've had 14 XJs in total over the years I used to buy them and beat the tar out of them in the woods back when you could find them easily for $500 running and driving lol.
If you do get a 96 let me know i have the factory service manual for it I can share. It's one of the hardest things to find 84-95 and 97-01 manuals are everywhere but there are basically none for 96 I got mine from a guy that knows a guy that made a full thousand page scan of his original book.
Why would you not test one panel before spraying the entire car? You say 'it shouldn't dry on the vehicle, yet you wet everything assuming you'll be able to clay rub it all before it dries. This is why young people are considered liabilities to many employers. They rush into tasks without thinking about consequences or costs to the employer. They fail to exercise caution or logic in their desire to get instant results. They rush into tasks without that vital wisdom of experience. I bet that green bottle costs $10-15 dollars. Excessive spray over the entire vehicle will force you to work fast instead of thoroughly. Then, you just rinsed it all off?! No concern for the environment or chemicals entering the water system. And, if the sun pops out unexpectedly, there you are, totally exposed with less time available and excess product wasted. Hey young people...think first, slow down, learn slowly.
I wish my paint looked that good. Texas sun has done its damage already.
Ahh that sucks. At some point it reaches the point of no return. Are you thinking of getting it repainted?
Looks great.
Nice xj
Thanks!
Dang good looking Jeep!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
Nice xj

thanks! I’d like to get a 96 to go with my 01 sometime. What fun mods do you have planned for it?

Sounds like you have a nice project!

That can also work. I’ve heard that using a torch can crack it and make it more brittle. I think just getting new caps is a more permanent solution
I recommend doing the iron remover in sections.
True that would be a good idea to make sure it doesn’t dry up too quick
What mud flaps do you have on the jeep, they look good!
Thanks! Mopar part number: 82203706AB
Nice Jeep. How high is your lift and what size tyres are they? It has really nice proportions.
3 inch lift, 31x10.50 tires. Appreciate it

Probably looks a whole lot better now!

I’ve been wanting to get a 96 as well. How do you like yours?

claybar takes time but so worth it
Very true
Nice
Thanks!
Looking good
Thanks!
How much did the shop charge you for the lift kit installation?
Just for labor I believe it was around 800
Turtle wax-Rubbing compound. Rub it in small circles first then wipe off repeat ? Two or three times .Just go slow and easy.
I think the scratch and swirl remover works like compound
What size tires do you have in your jeep?
31x10.50
Yes
👍
Beautiful i have the same one, but the paint is fainting and cracking on the roof.
Awesome and thanks! mine has many rust spots on the roof that I’d like to take care of sometime.

The wise words of a boomer 😂 I appreciate it sir, I’ll do better next time
So show us the roof, I dare you! Also, how about removing the license plates, yo?
Lol the roof isn’t the prettiest. And what’s wrong with the license plate?
New York .... Oh what does the rusty side look like? Umm..
