- What a great journey back into the late 90's! Throbbing pads, zippy leads, cheeky little portamentos. Ahh the nostalgia of the Yamaha S30!
Please share this video with your uncle Jim-bob.
This one came out around the same time the CS6x and AN1x came out. Very nice my friend.. Very nice indeed!
Indeed it is!
Love my Yamaha S30, I wanted to find one for months since I watched demos over and over and thought 'that's a really really pretty synth' and when the opportunity arrived it came with a lucky price tag of only £49 too! Fantastic video demonstration!
Sounds great thanks for your awesome comment :-)
I bought an S30 about a month ago. After repairing it for the damage FedEx did to it in shipping, I was starting to have fin with it. Then I took it to a gig and couldn't get it to receive or transmit MIDI when I got back home. Freaked out for a couple days before discovering there's actually a tiny MIDI switch(!) next to the In, Out, and Thru ports in the back. Why in the world that exists, I have no idea, but I mention it here to maybe save somebody else a bit of agony.
Very considerate of you! I think I know the switch you mean, it’s a pre-USB computer-comms mode selector.
I love the smell of old synths in the morning........,...😀👍
One on UK eBay £350!
Sadly out of my budget.....oh well.........
Nice still useable sound set though. I'm impressed, thanks for sharing.
You and me both!
That keyboard looks like it’s in great shape. Yamaha makes very durable keyboards, I have 3. Good video!
Thanks!
Yeah, Yamaha isn't always my favourite synth company but they do make very high quality and well built keyboards (and scooters). My D-80 circa 1977 looks and plays like brand new. I also have several toy/home keyboards from the 80s and they have also held up well.
@@lo-firobotboy7112 I have a couple of early ones, PSS-480, PSS-680, & a later MX-49. All do what they are supposed to. I drive a Yamaha YZFR3. So, I guess I'm a Yamaha fan. Also use a Deepmind 12 for synth action.
@@mlbellino I love my PSS-480. I also have a PSR-36 and FB-o1. I prefer these consumer keyboards over the professional DX line. For me the teal accents and slider/button design have always been off-putting. Soundwise they are perfect but I prefer the design of Casio and Roland instruments.
@@lo-firobotboy7112 maybe the DJX will be the next big collectible item, they’re getting rare
I purchased a brand new one in 2002 and made the mistake of letting it go a few years later. Some great sound that were not not available on the Motif range. Keybed was the weak point but if I see one come up, I would probably buy it.
That Keyboard is a Solid piece of perfomance. the 90s seems to be one of the best sounding keyboards. Loved those tasty arpeggios and the Piano sounds seems just like the psr e series. Ienjoyed those high quality synth and pad ssounds, I wish Yamaha would put sounds like this in the psr e series and sx series too. i enjoyed the video.
Yep I think this is a great synth. Reminded me of the Korg Triton in its overall vibe.
@@gearfacts cool 😎
Nice sounds!
Glad you enjoyed!
An awesome keyboard based on the flag ship of those days the cs6x
thanks for this video brother
Glad you liked it!
Nice bit of floyd there.
Endless possibilities....
That’s one I’d like to find !
Gonna put it up for sale soon, it'd cost twice its own value to ship to the USA though :(
@@gearfacts yes unfortunately lol . Have a great week !!
@@gearfacts Buy and sell local.
@@freestate6200 Yeah I made a video about that, you should check it out :)
I was going to say the look is deceptive. Could be much more recently made. Maybe that just means the more things change, the more they stay the same?
I think there's a lot of truth in that!
E373 vs e473 please🥺
Which is best for a beginner
The 473 is more fun but the 373 has a much nicer feeling in the keys.
@@gearfacts thank you bro you're videos were just helping me a lot🙌
The EX5 is way superior, and the TG500 sounds way more interesting because of the fx unit. But still it's a very clean and basic sound, a cheap master keyboard and it has got a midi player for live performances. So everything is on the plus side here.
Agreed :)
Tengo un s30 calidad de sintetizador..
Played like a rompler, although you could edit sounds like in Korg M1 style with a bit more of CC designations, it is tedious to program. So it's a rompler like M1 just better sounding.
Yep agreed
This one is definitely worth buying. BTW Did a woman named Eve or the witch, Rosina Leckermaul give you dat apple? Be careful!
Ahh witches have just got a bad name ;)
@@gearfacts LOL Oh, we're not that bad at all, but we are ... BAD to the bone. At least the real ones are, not to be confused with the Moon Goddess cosplay dress-up ones. Not to worry though, me and Claire are always watching out for you and those we hold dear.
@@dawnr8511 Aw that's a comfort, for sure. Had a bad week but then a stroke of luck early on Sunday that could turn it all around. You been burning candles for Gearfacts?
@@gearfacts Nothing as primitive as burning candles or anything that involves any kind of destruction of physical matter. I guess the term "witch" is also very demeaning and inaccurate. It is of no effect to try to use the physical things around us to try to manipulate the will of the One, our Father, who created all things. It is a matter of returning His love and being pure of heart as a child, then you will understand and see the power of the love from our Father. A love being returned to us and the ones we love in protection and the destruction of the evil around us. Love the Creator as your Father, who loves you and always remember that a father is always also your best friend. No harm, except to test our metal, but just blessings. That's the best explanation I could give.
@@dawnr8511 yep that’s pretty much the way I roll. Wasn’t raised with any specific religion but I figured if if I do good, think good, be helpful etc then it’s unlikely any loving creator would give me too much of a hard time!
Hey Gearfacts...great video...I have an S30 myself. I'm actually trying to figure out how to set it up so I can play the EP and piano patches with an external controller, while at the same time, playing the Organ patches on the S30 itself. Any suggestions on how to set this up? Can't seem to figure it out. Thanks! I have MIDI Running out from my controller into MIDI IN on the S30, and can create a performance with Parts, but it just ends up layering the patches instead of having them play separately. Any help is appreciated
Oh man I hear you - I find it so hard to set up midi to do what you describe, yet I'm sure there's a simple solution. All I can suggest is to have a look at the midi controller guide at the back of the manual, I can't be of any help at all :/
@@gearfacts Hey pal - I figured it out. I created a Performance and for Part 1 selected the Patch I wanted to play on the S30, for Part 2 set the patch that I wanted to play on the external controller. Went to global Utilities and set to basic MIDI. For Part 2 I set it to Receive on Channel 2. Turned on Master Keyboard and I was able to play like I described above, with the organ patch on the S30 but the controller playing the Piano patch I wanted. 1/4" out cable to my FRFR Speaker and it sounded fun. Now if I could only teach my hands more independence, haha. Thanks anyway for the reply.
@@garmisra7841 Awesome work, Gar :) Rock on!
O S30 é melhor que o CS6x pois além do mesmo motor sonoro (síntese) tem mais timbres e wave forms. Li o manual .
What's the name of the sound at 9:22?
The modern Montage or Modx doesn't seem to be as full sounding. Could it be you get much less for your money these days? The organs are realistic.
I'm sorry to say that - I think the answer is 'yes'. Workstation type keyboards are in a real slump at the moment. There's lots of good software and hardware synths around, but workstations not so much.
