This ride.. you cant get the full effect of it from a POV. You have to rude it. Best 18 seconds of my life. got rolled back once, one hell of an experience
The 120 mile an hour launch is demented. It is literally out of this world. You get pure adrenaline when you launch and you can feel your stomach get numb because it's that intense.
The sensation of going 120mph is pretty intense at its very core, which is what you get with TTD. In a car, there's a lot of feed back from many different things diluting the experience: suspension, tires, the road itself, a plush interior, the windshield blocking the wind, a lot of space and controlled air inside the cabin of the car. TTD is smooth like glass, you don't have an interior or suspension. You're exposed to as much open air as safely possible. You're not in a cabin, so there is no controlled environment. 120mph in its purest form is fucking exhilarating. The acceleration is something else though. Many people who ride TTD will have experienced a height of 400ft or more. Some will have experienced 120mph, the top speed of the ride. But the acceleration is by far the quickest you'll ever experience in your lifetime. After riding TTD, it will rank number one for MANY people's experiences for fastest acceleration. Very few people, and I mean a handful of people in the world, can say they've been in quicker accelerating vessels (namely from the organization of NHRA), which is where the ride derives its name.
TTD does 120mph in 3.8s or so, about 1.44g in total. Stealth at Thorpe Park in the UK might be half the height, but it accelerates FAR faster - 0-80mph in 1.9s, about 1.92g (or 2.08g if you believe the signs around the ride - 0-82mph in 1.8s). Fastest accelerating hydraulic launch in the world. Though it has nothing on Dodonpa in Japan, an air launch coaster that takes you to 111mph in 1.8seconds...
I went on Dododonpa, it's absolutely insane. I get shivering all over my body everytime I go on it, if you think about how that thing accelerates almost twice as fast as TTD.
@@StraitClownin909 it's not the speed at all really - sure you will feel the wind but on it's own 120 mph is not very thrilling. It's the acceleration that's thrilling. Where I live (UK), some trains go 140-190 mph, but it feels very smooth because of suspension, yaw dampers, etc but most importantly smooth acceleration. I've experienced 110 in small Audi and it's quite smooth.
I remember one morning, after getting off the Witches Wheel, my sister said that Top Thrill Dragster had done a rollback, and I was EXTREMELY jealous. I watched it for about 5 minutes, and one of my dreams came true. It rolled back!
Six Flags Magic Mountain was actually the first park to build a 400 foot tall roller coaster. It was Superman: The Escape, which opened seven years before Top Thrill Dragster existed.
The day i went to cedar point, I just had to ride it again. And i had the front seat. But when i got off, There were about 15 gnats or so stuck to my face.
Going back to the park on friday... this one here is the first roller coaster i rode as a kid.... I have a connection with this one because of that. Can not wait to ride it again.
As someone who’s worked at Cedar Point with breaks in between from July 2021 to October 2022 I can safely say that I have seen TTD close down many times
Both parks have great coasters! It isn't worth arguing, but is is kinda fun to compare them, IMO! Magic Mountain has a ton of great coasters as well: Tatsu, X2, Apocalypse, Riddler's Revenge, and Viper, to name a few... Plus, there's the new unannounced record-breaking roller coaster for 2013. It's been in the works for several years now, and I know it won't disappoint!
Never in a 100 years i would have rode this but i did. I am proud of myself. My dad dragged me on. When i watched the lights light up i regretted my decision. It didn't break down on us and i feel accomplished. Also proud to be one of the first hundreds of people to ride the The Gatekeeper.:) Keep it coming Cedar Point!
The reason Free Fall wasn't considered a coaster was because it does not ride on wheels for the entire track, and parts of the track are not stationary. Guinness Book of World Records, Roller Coaster DataBase, many reliable sources, and the vast majority of roller coaster enthusiasts polled agree that Superman is a roller coaster. In the end, it really doesn't matter whether we can "officially" call it roller coaster. It's still a great ride, no matter what! :)
The Coaster wars hit a slump in the late 2000's and early 2010's but now it's back and better than before and this new coaster wars will go on for another 20 years just like the last one
Technically it is a coaster. Cedar Point officials don't want you to believe that though. It meets all of the criteria: It rides on wheels for the entire track, it's made of steel, the track is stationary, it isn't continuously powered, it has noticeable changes in speed, changes in elevation, and curvature of the track, it is not completely circular, and freefall is not the only action accomplished in the ride.
LOL! Absolutely perfect summary of how Superman is treated by the public! :D Actually, Superman launches backwards all the time now. Rumor is, in the future, they'll revert one side back to normal so riders can pick a direction.
Millennium Force is better. The climb at that steep angle is what puts the doubt in your brain. The G-force is so strong on Dragster that it takes away the other stimuli such as being 420 feet in the air.
They are both awesome in their own way. Mellenium is better because it's longer. But the awesome first hill and weightless hills are both topped by the 0-120 of the dragster.
Just so you know the King* Da Ka, was made by the exact same people who made the Top Thrill, It's an exact replica, with only the addition of a little tiny hill at the end that leads into the port.
I can't resist replying! :P The reason Superman does count as 415 feet tall, and High Roller (which no longer exists) did not count as the tallest was because it's all about how tall the ride structure itself is built. Superman actually had a 415 foot tower, while High Roller's structure was just a few feet tall.
That's why hypersonic XL was dismantled I hear from too may maintenance issues. If it has been having so many maintenance issues, Its a wonder Cedar Point hasn't put Dragster on the chopping block.
At this point **most** of the downtime is due to high winds now adays, like if you watch the 10 yr video cp has put out they even said they got dragster on a tight leash now.
Beanman Cannot confirm. I was there the other day and it was a clear day with minimal wind. It kept going down for the majority of the morning and early afternoon. That thing is still temperamental as all hell. I'm sure it's a bitch for them to maintain, but it's a key draw to the park (and fun as hell!), so I doubt it's going anywhere anytime soon.
at work we have a screw drive that transport pallets. that would be perfect to launch a train. we just punch the speed in mm per second. the pallets have a circular plug that goes into the screw flutes and when the screw turns, away she goes.
whenever i go to cedar point... i’m always like “okay. today is the day. you’re going on top thrill” and then we get there, i look up, get extremely dizzy... and chicken out so yea that’s that
if the barometric pressure drops (and you would feel it) or cloud cover comes within minutes, or sometimes a change in wind direction (most likely blowing against the train) then there is bound to be a rollback. some times the second car doesnt even reach the peak.
right to it with the passengers, so it made me very nervous. I remember them calling, "We need a single rider right here up front!" so I raised my hand and volunteered, despite my nerves. As you can see, I'm still here, nothing went wrong. You guys heard the reasons it breaks down. It's a very advanced coaster that needs to be kept up with FOR SAFETY. They take 30-45 minutes to repair it to make sure you're satisfied and SAFE.
I see people with concerns about the safety of this ride because of the many times it's been down, but it's not all too bad. Last summer when I went out there, it was maybe 20 minutes before closing time, so I decided to ride one last time, and right when I got to it, it was down, but they promised to let people on after it was fixed, so I started the line for that. About 45 minutes later, it was fixed, but I was on the very first train and they didn't test one without passengers, they just went
they've updated the launch system since whenever that was, now yo can see those strips sticking up from the track that try use on the maverick also. in the video, you don't see those.
Actually, they still use the hydraulic cable launch system. The "strips" you see (which have been there since it opened) are for slowing the train down in case it doesn't make it over the hill and rolls back. Very different from the "strips" on Maverick.
Aw... That's a shame. Like Cedar Point, you simply can't truly experience Magic Mountain in just one day, much less, half a day! I hope you can go again, too, and try riding Tatsu in the back; it's the best thing in the world! :D
Hey there... I'm a Six Flags fan boy, to be honest, and I'm afraid I'm the one who started this whole debate going on now. :P I appreciate what both parks have to offer, and I'm definitely not bashing any parks. I just was stating some facts that tend to be ignored; that's all. No harm intended. ;)
This ride.. you cant get the full effect of it from a POV. You have to rude it. Best 18 seconds of my life. got rolled back once, one hell of an experience
Lucky!
yeah me too, got to go again!!
Stulshy just like your first time having sex
Im definitely gonna ride it next time I go to cp
It truly was I adore the ride it was delayed but me and my dad stayed until it was working and man it was worth it to ride it
4:33 I love how casually he’s just leaning on TTD’s launch track
LOL
Lol
3:18 that looks like a coaster that I would design on no limits back when I was 7
That coaster was put on the front page on my old math book! XD
Lucky
No way! Mine has Magnum in it
Mine had millenium force on a random page in the middle of the book
Mine had Vortex from K.Island on it.
I’m checking my books on Monday

Calling launch coasters "rocket coasters" has the same amount of GP energy as calling inverted coasters "dangling coasters."
"furery 325"
wick twister
Rol cost
King the Ka.
“the millennium force” dont forget the gp adding “the” infront of every coaster. and also calling hybrids “wooden”
The 120 mile an hour launch is demented. It is literally out of this world. You get pure adrenaline when you launch and you can feel your stomach get numb because it's that intense.

Totally agree, the first 4 seconds is unbelievably euphoric. No other way to explain it.

Iv ridden kingda ka as well as top thrill I enjoy king better but prefer top because it doesn't head bang as much

This video makes the coaster 10x scarier
I love Cedar Point! I went there for the first time a couple weeks ago and it was so much fun! They have the best rides!!

Best ride ever!!!! The only word I can use to describe that launch is ungodly!!! Can't wait to ride it again!!!
The day i went to cedar point, I just had to ride it again. And i had the front seat. But when i got off, There were about 15 gnats or so stuck to my face.
Just came back from there this past weekend and OMG top thrill is amazing!
I ride this at least 10 times everytime we go!!! Best adrenaline rush ever!!!! THANK YOU CEDAR POINT!!!!
Damn, how long do you stay there? Lines are like an hour at least

Just went on this ride about a week ago. ended up going 4 times while I was there. Sooo much fun :)
best ride I've ever been on!!! I dream about it and miss it
I'm going to Cedar Point in 2 days :p

Went on this yesterday! I can't wait to go back!
Going back to the park on friday... this one here is the first roller coaster i rode as a kid.... I have a connection with this one because of that. Can not wait to ride it again.
If you are ever gonna ride this the launch is amazing

I loved this ride!!!
BEST RIDE EVER ! Jay from Cleveland, OHIO
Your channel is so cool!
I rode this in 2011. Was great!!
There is no roller coaster park in the world close to ceader point, some have 1 or 2 rides that are good but all ceader points top rides are amazing.
And thank you for visiting cedar point americas roller coast
This is true. Not many people mention how smooth and comfortable it is. Same company that built Millennium Force which feels the same.
Both parks have great coasters! It isn't worth arguing, but is is kinda fun to compare them, IMO!

Me too boy on king da ka
ive been going for 3 years i never got a roll back 😞
@MontagnaMagica Yes, but the coaster only traveled up 328ft. You are right though, the tower is 415ft.

Top thrill dragster: I'm the tallest roller coaster in the world.
King da ka: hold my beer.
stellar365 I’m the best roller coaster
Top thrill dragster smooth ride
Amazing ride best so far next to the hulk
what are the best weather conditions to get rollbacks.... I went during the summer and during our wait, there wasn't anything even close to a rollback
the most intense 17 seconds of my life. got to do it 13 times now.
Same thing happened with me with the lap bar. But when I rode it 30 times, I got the jist that it was safe. Plus, it adds more thrill.
I can't resist replying! :P

Yes. Mag lev can send people off at 200 mph plus
does anyone know what is the biggest and fastest coaster is now?
Everyone thinks this ride is going to rough, it's actually real smooth. Yet intimidating well waiting to launch.
Yea you are right, i dont now where i got that from, but still not a huge difference.
Looks cool
Never went on Kingda Ka. Going to Hershey today actually driving out in the am. Haven't been on Farenheit or Skyrush. Heard they are good.
i tried to rollback like 5 times then i gave up, next ride got a rollback, i was soo pissed
I've gotten two rollbacks in the same year. I know; you're probably pissed at me LOL.
Adamthecoasterfanatic shut the fuck up stupid ass
that ride scared the shit out of me when i rode it.
God Bless Cedar Point
nat geo back at it again with the uber high quality video
Ok, well it was 2010, but surely they had better cameras than this right?
at work we have a screw drive that transport pallets. that would be perfect to launch a train. we just punch the speed in mm per second. the pallets have a circular plug that goes into the screw flutes and when the screw turns, away she goes.
I’m going on it next month
When they show kingda ka -_-“
there still are...that's the main reason why the ride is great.

Hey, What about Kingda Ka?
Top Thrill Dragster also rolls back.
Just got back from there last night

I would cry if I got on it and it went backwards. That's like the Wicked Twister except way faster xD
When I went for the weekend, I got on the ride 3 times and only took me 15 minutes for each turn... ALSO We got to sit first seat!
Front row is the best place to sit on TTD!!
cant we just love six flags AND cedar point?
@a7xfanboylolololol theres no friction but you will be able to feel the air. i mean the ferrari coaster in abu dabi goes 151 with the chord

xD So true. Although when I rode it last year, it was night time, and there were no bugs. Perhaps it was because it was a bit cooler that night. ^_^
not alot though it sometimes pauses for about 3 seconds at the turn
Not only is it fun, but then u get to ride the whole thing again
I'm going tomorrow!!!!!

i live in ohio and go to cedar point every year i think cedar point should make a tod trhill dragster xl
Aw... That's a shame.

BnM is my favorite coaster company they gotta make something like king da ka or top thrill
They put this on National Geographic?
Can you breathe during the launch?
Happy 10th anniversary TTD. =D (If I do forget in May)
Dragster only has a lapbar so its funner. kinda ka has a shoulder thing.
No, just wanted better capacity. Those wheels were part of the actual train design, not separate entities.
No harm intended. ;)
i was just there like over the weekend and they have new things on it
