- This video discusses how to build a home base players characters can use for dungeons & dragons. A large number of home base examples are discussed in detail. A dungeon master or game master guide suggesting my own personal experiences being a dungeon master, and experiences from other dungeon masters. There is heavy borrowing from all over the internet, but in particular Sly Flourish. None of this content is official. This covers a range of different options for dungeon masters, with recommendations. I refer most of my comments to dungeons & dragons 5e.

Such a great video!
Thank you MidgarHeretic.
I know I'm pretty off topic but do anyone know a good site to watch new movies online ?
@Apollo Ali try Flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
As a player in a campaign we were in a temple a few hours from a massive settlement and it had a secret bar, a shrine, smithing room and stuff.
After we threw out the big bad evil guys my friends were done with it but I really liked it so I started renovating! Added a bath room, herb growing room, escape routes, a training area, a secret vault, alarm system and more. I spend favours I had and a lot of gold to make it my own. And I am super stocked about it and planning more.
DM never even thought of this to be our house but he is really happy and supporting me in making it!
Using this to think what to add more so thank you for your amazing video
You are very welcome. Sorry the reply took so long.
The gaint colck looking thing overlooking a valley look like a cool wizard base
For sure.
a flying orphanage/school, it is a sentient castle-sized flying tree that can land and take off. the roots act as landing legs/refueling, the headmistress is an elf whom herself grew up on the street, later in life she became a druid and went on a quest to create the orphanage.
You thought this through.
"Outside it's cold but inside it's not, the technology is alien"
Outside its cold, but inside it's not. The technology is alien.
@@HowtoRPG your first it's is missing an apostrophe
Other aspects are neighbors, side businesses, vaults, decoration, house parties or balls, gardens, vehicles, special reason for offlinit security due to patronage, library/ study/lab/craft room, servants, pets, special visitors, curse/blessings
Yep.
you could´ve a castle, mansion or cave. or several
smaller houses in a village or town with tunnels
connecting them all and´ve a larger area underground
in the middle where all tunnels meet. the tunnels
can´ve rooms connected to them for storege of food,
gear, treasure, weapons, experiments and training.
you may as a party´ve to dig the tunnels yourselves
to keep them secret. don´t forget to reenforce them
and any room well so they don´t collapse. you could
of course hire people to help that you trust well.
not sure what it´d cost or how long it´d take to make.
1 of the buildings can even be a tavern to easily find
out goings on around the area/town/country side or in
other towns and cities. phandalin in lost mines of
phandelver´s many vacated/abandoned houses the above
tunnel system can work for and each player having
his/her own home to do with what they want could maby
work for them. not many secrets to explore though..
unless you digg into the old phandalin that used to be
there long ago of course. you could of course skip having
a home base and be more of a traveling adventurer, sleeping
and eating in inns, taverns, the wild, at npc´s homes. and
if you get a lot of money, jewels and such put it in a bank
or in several banks in several cities and towns that you
know you visit or pass by a lot on your travels. just in
case you need funds they wont ever be too far away. you
can train in nature, you can read books or borrow them from
city or town libraries, you can do magical and herbal
experiments in nature. you could gather and hunt food, herbs
and spices for free. go to the batroom anywhere, wash yourself
in a river, lake or the sea. tying yourself down to a place
could mean wasting a lot of time there and keeping many things
you don´t really need. but it´s up to the players to chose what
they want to do.
Castle Grey Skull. That would be great for a Noble Barbarian.
Does it have to be a noble Barbarian?
we love CR references here
You must bring honor to it
I see that you're a man of culture as well (old school He-Man).
Remember to get proficiency in Cooking Utensils and a tiger sidekick (use the normal stat block out of combat, and the sidekick character sheet when in combat).
I have a group of characters that are essentially nomadic (having been banished from their respective villages). They have several bases scattered about in strategic but relatively inaccessible/secret locations as well as some “safe houses” owned by NPCs. They Also have caches of supplies scattered about that they can access. My point is that you might need more than one base. Also all my NPCs and monsters likewise have their base(s) of operations
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
We have a home base. A series of Gypsy wagons which travel, often with a small circus.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds like a great idea 💡
Mordenkainen's Mansion as an enchant is so much win. And so good for sucking up cash.
lol. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
21:30 maybe its a 4 runecannon ship that gets a rear facing trebuchet or ballista
Maybe. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
You have a very interesting accent, if I may, where is it from?
New Zealand.
Ancient ruins of long lost advanced society, staying in the remains of an old world
Sure. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
@@HowtoRPG At least thats the kind of setting I realized i want to explore more for Bases
can a physical door be enchanted with Demiplane so there's a reliable exit? if so there's no reason not to ring a large room in them.
each door's demiplane can have a network of such doors that link to it, perhaps one per Plane even.
@@kingmasterlord It's a fun idea, I have done before. It would be up to the Game Master.
this video is really vague?
It's a concept video. What were you expecting?
would be nice if you put it in the title? seems rather misleading because i was expecting something actually showing me numbers examples and stuff. you know like most videos that are in the explanatory section. Most successful people on this platform show more than tell.
@@anthonykravitz6156 You are the only one to suggest the title is misleading. I made this video doing research on internet articles, books and video's. No one at the time I made this, had done what you expected and still haven't in a video. You aren't getting game numbers because it's Dungeons and Dragons version agnostic. What you want is a D&D 5e home base building guide, correct?
Let the PCs make or repurpose their own home base.
Yep.
