So heartbreaking to hear how close to greatness they were and it all fell away, truly could have made a game to define a generation and now we’ll never know 🙁
Dreams was incredible, I created so much on it. I was their exact target audience.
A PC version would sure have given the game a longer tail, but the experience was unmatched, the feeling of belonging to a tight-knit community was unparalleled.
It may be harder to see in retrospect, but I have vivid memories of Early Access and full release, and I’m so happy to have been a part of it from day one of early access.
LBP was legendary. I had so much fun in that game and I would argue that it is the game that I spent the most time playing of all the games that I've played. Thank you Mark Healey for that.
I spent a lot of time making stuff on Dreams (bought a PS4 Pro when early access came out). For me, the biggest errors were no online multi-player (as mentioned), no split screen support (I recall Mark saying that he didn't like split screen games around the time of the release, which seemed like a weird reason to omit the option) and no built in AI features. If they had just given us some kind of nav mesh tools, and maybe a few preprogrammed behaviors that people could plug in (e.g., "follow route to target, avoiding obstacles"), I think it would have been a lot easier for people to make deeper single player games. But I'm just Monday morning quarterbacking.
Hopefully LittleBigPlanet 4 launches, featuring the same creative possibilities as Dreams. A standard create mode for casuals and an advanced create mode for hardcore creators.
Not sure if he answered a question like this one in the full interview, but I'd love to ask him why they wouldn't be making an actual LBP4 as a continuation of the series, not some abstract thing like dreams.
I mean, what would be their reason for going to a whole new IP now after Dreams instead of making lbp4? Did he have any input on that decision? Seems like a no brainer for me.
I remember when some of you worked at GI the cover issue really sold me on buying dreams. I opened it, and was really enjoying it, getting excited by the ideas introduced, etc. Then the technical limit wall hit and I realized it was impossible to make anything of value with the memory limit. A lot of the fanbase was hoping they would upgrade it to use the ps5 hardware, but it never happened.
I have no idea why they were so bent on Dreams having its own identity. Sad case of both IP's being incredibly mismanaged.
how are they mismanaged???? they tried making another ip okay, doesnt mean they handeled it poorly. thing sold over a million copys
@@jjam3121Had dreams been successful, it would still be receiving live service support. It was absolutely mismanaged
@@jjam3121 Decisions like completely abandoning littlebigplanet and the mistakes (as noted by the creative director) that ended up killing the longevity of Dreams.
I loved Dreams so much, but I've only really played about an hour or two of it because it's a PS4 game, not PC
Not using SackBoy to advertise dreams was crazy
not every mm game has to have sackboys face plastered on it chill your ass 😭😭😭
@@jjam3121 Even the guy getting interviewed here brought up the idea to have the LBP brand and Sackboy attached to it, could've potentially saved the game.
NGL, kind of think it's a blessing in disguise. i highly doubt it would have taken off even w/ a mascot
this leaves the idea of LittleBigPlanet 4 (or a potential reboot) still up and am crossing my fingers it'll come back and make a big splash
We need to go back to the roots of what made LittleBigPlanet so great. Having Dreams be a 3d game instead of a 2D alienated me, a veteran of the LBP franchise. Dreams did not have an identity or a direction that was strong enough.
Unbound
Lmao this title
Not making it into LBP 4 was a big mistake. Along with the wack motion controls lol.
The motion controls are easy
I hate how the media is always looking to blame Sony. The dude said they were implementing ideas fast but getting them launched took a long time. They did not launch on PC , nor did they launch as a little big planet. (I finally get why they didn't it was their biggest mistake). They worked on it for like 8 years. How much more money and time could you give them ? But the media always finds a way to blame it all on sony. Media molecule should be closed. Idk why they still open.
Shame on you
Not bringing it to PC lmao
