An incredible achievement that a big minivan like this can deliver 36 MPG. That is amazing. I can remember vans being in the low teens... The Odyssey and Sienna are incredibly practical vehicles. Basically a pickup with protected storage the way some people use it. My wife and I are moving to Nova Scotia next year to be closer to family. She wants to pile everyone into one vehicle for day trips and she is open to a minivan for seven people. Nova Scotia also gives a discount on insurance for a hybrid, so this might be my next family hauler. For me, leg room and comfort are the first two priorities, followed by if I can fit comfortably in the third row.
We started buying Odysseys when my now 19 year old was 4. My daily is a Mustang GT. We will always own an Odyssey. It’s just too versatile and useful and comfortable.
we have a 2021 Sienna, same power train, wife and I love it, rides great, roomy, full of tech, 35 MPG, plenty of power to cruise down the road and even though it is a hybrid they are very easy to maintain. Best van you can buy.
I prefer a van, comfort, height, more cargo room and mpg. With awd it's perfect for the east coast winters. Had suv's, enjoyed them but prefer the room and better mpg. Have a 2016 Sienna, had a 2005 and they are so nice to drive distances , driven to FL twice a year. No worries , very reliable and i can do most maintenance/repairs myself. Toyota cares about cars and people, that's important to me..
The Toyota Sienna XSE is a great looking minivan. Definitely a bestseller and the Cement color pops! I'd take this over the Honda Odyssey and there's no more Nissan Quest. Thanks Joe for reviewing this beautiful van and Lori you're the best!
The Odyssey rides much better and has better power. Why would you take this over an Odyssey? I'm trying to choose between the two but it seems to me like most people make their choice based on whether they are Toyota fans or Honda fans. I see many advantages to the Odyssey and most head to head comparisons favor the Odyssey... it would help to explain why.
@@mnn1265 well today I was watching the Odyssey Touring.. the outside it’s horrible it depends what brand You Like.. Like you Said honda vs Toyota Fans.. I was going to buy a Pilot, then Sequoia, then Odyssey, but the best was obviously saved until last, because I'm taking delivery of my Sienna next Monday. The part that most blows my mind is the full-on, business-class, living-room-worthy recliners in the second row. None of the others can come close to touching those. And I wanted dark brown leather instead of tan. Stays cleaner easier and longer, and easier to clean. Bravo, Toyota!
Great review as always! I've had my 23 XSE for just under 2 months now and I have zero buyers remorse, letting go of my 2016 4Runner. 3 kids and friends or just the 5 of us going on vacation, using the 3rd row, left a comical amount of trunk space. Definitely not enough room for a full sized stroller with the usage of the 3rd row in the 4Runner. It was great for my previous stage of life though. I'm going to add a zonk though... I am short, so I'm not sure if it is because my seat is pulled up, but if you have a water bottle or cups in the cupholders in the door, you can not access them while the door is closed. The cupholders in general, leave a lot to be desired, but at least there are 4 on the bridge, unlike the 2 in my 4Runner. Another zonk, would be the rear wiper not being tucked away. Overall, I am pretty impressed with its acceleration. where I live, it is mainly interstate driving with a speed limit of 70mph, getting onto the interstate has not been a problem, even keeping it in ECO, surprisingly. I had been waiting over 6 months for a new Kia Carnival SX I had ordered, and just got tired of waiting with no build date. My local Toyota dealership that does not mark up their inventory, was getting 1 lonely 2023 Sienna XSE black with black (dark gray) interior (like my 4Runner) and FWD so it had the black wheels, and I scooped it up. It arrived 2 weeks early and I couldn't be happier with our purchase.

I wanted to buy an AWD Sienna, but the waiting list is over a year out and dealers want $5K over sticker. That's a pretty huge zonk. Last year I bough a 2022 Sienna xle, had it for 3 days, I can confirm the mpg is awesome. We decided to return it because it felt small in the 3rd roll ,no spare tire, no entertainment system on the xle model, for what we paid we could get more for our money so we decided to go with the 2022 odyssey touring which we love ❤. It has everything and more, specially the entertainment system for the kiddos and my spare tire. This is the first time we switched from suv to a minivan and I don’t think I’m going back. Out of my experience driving both the Sienna and odyssey, either or will work, it really depends on your needs. Take your time to do your research and drive test both before you invest
True Honda Odyssey is better choice Because it’s has 3.5 natural Engine which is in long trip you fall a sleep and smooth ride the only down side is Honda need AWD but other then that good choice 👍
Honda definitely has the better ride and on a long drive with a van full of kids I think that's important. The fact that you can actually buy a Honda without a years long wait without a big markup helps too.
My dad always had a Sienna when I was growing up and I never understood it. After all the people he gave drives to, helped moved and roadtrips. I get it dad, I get it.
Yeah they don’t fully remove (easily… it can be hacked), but they do slide all the way to the front seats.- so you do get more cargo area in the back than if they didn’t. Not as good as easily removable, but better than nada.
@@everydayanodyssey I am happy with the seats sliding all the way forward so I can use that big space when I want it for sleeping and living and still have the ability to seat my grandkids in the second row where I can reach them.
I booked my Sienna XSE 25th Anniversary in Nov 2022 and until now the dealer is not able to get the vehicle allotted for me. Does it really take 6 months for Toyota to allocate a vehicle. The only additional package I selected was the Entertainment Package with Options + Dashcam + Trifold mat. Is it really worth such long for this minivan as I also see that the Odyssey might come up a redesign for the 2024 model which I believe has a better spec than the Sienna. Please share your thoughts.
People who are interested in the Grand Highlander should really be going after the Sienna, extremely spacious first and second row, sliding doors so the kids will never hit the car parked next to you, plus the giant well of a cargo area so your groceries aren’t flying out when you open the hatch! Just look past the image a minivan has and do what will be the most comfortable and spacious for your family.
I love Toyota Cement gray color. I have a 05 Golf TDI, and I plan on painting it this color. I love the back end of it. The side back fenders look a bit like the Highlanders
My '04 Sienna has 275k and it's very common for them to achieve this mileage. AWD option makes for an extremely practical car. Odysseys of the 2000's would grenade their transmission at 200k like clockwork. I like the 4 cylinder hybrid setup, it would be cool if they added a turbocharger in addition to the hybrid setup like what we get with the platinum trim on the new Crown.
our 2000 odyssey started suffering from transmission slips at around 200k miles. so the next minivan will likely be a sienna. i think toyotas also use a timing "chain" rather than a timing belt so more robust. the only thing that concerns me about toyota minivan vs honda is siennas are now only hybrid. after the hybrid batteries go out, it might be expensive to replace them which negates the cost savings of getting a hybrid i think. also i really like the magic/sliding seats of odysseys. i wish siennas had that.
@@Noypi54494 No transmission maintenance. A lot of transmissions claim to be 'sealed for life' and not need servicing. Some of those claims are true, some aren't. The truth of whether or not you should really be servicing the transmission is down to the make and model you are driving. Toyota engines and transmissions are some of the best in the business in terms of reliability. Non-CVT Toyota automatic transmissions (going back as far as the early 90's) were all very reliable. Couple this with the fact that the Sienna is a minivan, and therefore highly unlikely to have been driven hard and aggressively. Minivan owners are typically moms and dads just trying to raise kids, so it's unlikely the transmission has been abused.
I have a 2018 Odyssey Elite as the main family vehicle for kids drop off and pick up and groceries etc. Our Ody is driven within a 3 mile radius 95% of the time on local city roads with plenty of traffic and stop lights, with 35mph speed limit. I get 10.5 MPG on average. I'm really considering a Sienna for the better fuel efficiency and the sliding second row seats to give my kids more space to put their stuff and backpacks.
Would have been helpful to include some info about carseats, like where the latch and tether points are, especially since its targeted towards families.
When I was young I always said that minivans sucked and I would never buy one. I am proud to say I have grown up and left such childish thoughts, and will be purchasing one soon
Nice van, but a couple omissions that I don’t understand. One was one of your zonks, the rear wiper, because the previous generation Sienna did have the wiper tucked up under the spoiler. The other is the sunroof. Our 2017 Limited doesn’t have a panoramic because of the rear entertainment, which is just like the new van’s, but it does have two sunroofs. The rear one is really big and even opens. So, not sure why they chose to kind of go backwards with this new generation. Great review as always Joe!
Still baffles me that, in 2023, some manufacturers are using the old incandescent bulbs for the interior and not LEDs. I'm assuming this with the Sienna...giving off the yellow glow.
Good luck finding one. Dealers are backordered on Siennas. Get on a waiting list. Be prepared to pay $5k-20k above MSRP for one. No thanks. I purchased the Odyssey.
Great review, you’re hilarious with your candy descriptions, but we all know exactly how much room that is then! Thank you. I have a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid Sport with about 22k miles on it. While my Pacifica is extremely comfortable, no issues with it so far, also captains chairs, all leather, and I average 65 mpg with the all electric capability, what I really am concerned about is the long term reliability and value of it. Before the Pacifica I had the plug in hybrid Rav4 Prime, it was fantastic, just too small for my family. I really, really wish Toyota would put that same plug in technology into the Sienna! It’s great that hybrid is standard, but I just am on the fence about going back to a traditional hybrid getting 36 mpg (good, but not 65 mpg!). But, maybe that’s worth it when I could own the vehicle for 10-15 years. I don’t think I will get that long with the Pacifica..
My 6th grade friend's mom drove one of those station wagons. We sat in the 2 rear bucket seats facing the back like you mentioned, and yes, we made faces to the drivers following us to the beach. LOL. Cement color Sienna XSE is a legit swagger wagon! Great job Joe & Lori and team!
Sad to see them go, for families. The crease in rear quarter looks like it was hit by a Giant shopping cart that creased it being dragged along the way.
I took my kids van camping inside the odyssey because the 2nd row can be removed while the 3rd row folds flat. I don't think sienna can do that. But that's just about the only thing my odyssey is better than the sienna 😢
Mr. Joe, Great review, I am looking into finding a good fit to go back and forth from time to time up north to visit family, as we are here in lower Fla. We have the pooch of course and cannot fly home comfortably anymore. This Sienna fills the void I think when I try to get myself motivated to even attempt to take a trip back north. Heavy price tag but not as much as a small van style camper would cost. Thanks again Be well
I had a 20 sienna se, then a 22 odyssey. I went to a 13 Sequoia just because i needed a truck. But honestly if Toyota does a little updating on the new sienna it would be my new van. Id like for the 2nd row to completely come out and the floor to be flat. And it needs a rear power roll down window like in the Sequoia, and they should honestly extend the van about a foot so with the 2nd row all the way back you can still fit people in the 3rd row. I guess what Im hoping for is a grand sienna lol. But without these upgrades my current Sequoia makes more sense for my family at the moment.
The thing about Minivan is it’s not at a affordable price where average family can have one for the kids and family trip with money leftover for a nice daily driver!
@@ve2166 47 thousand is more affordable? If I’m a dad with kids and I can only afford to choose 1 vehicles for work and family between minivan or suv for the next 5-6 of payments and ownership I’m choosing a SUV -CX-90,Grand Highlander,Pilot, telluride, palisade, pathfinder,Accent, or Durango!
@@curiosityredpill7030 let me clarify. Much more affordable compared to what I’ve been looking at which is Chevy Suburban, Yukon Denali, QX80 etc etc. I currently have a 3 row SUV, just need more space…leg room, luggage space etc.

Great video, Few things about sienna, 1.Toyota is wayy behind the schedule at least needs 8-9 months to get this vehicle 2. Price is wayy too high now these days for minivan (LE with roof rails and cross bars along with spare tire costs around 41k in NY). 3. Spare tire is optional, if you opted for spare tire it will have its compartment molded on the side in the cargo area (driver side), so in this case if one opted for 8 passengers the middle removable sear cannot be stored in the cargo anymore.(so lack of options) 4. Honda Odyssey, you can store spare tire in the floor or at least store it below the vehicle 5. Plastic everywhere ( not 100% sure but the rear tail gate is made out of plastic )
@@piggy310 3 different dealerships had 3 different answers about the materials, and spare tire placement, other people who owned new sienna complained about the material as well.

He still has an 08 with 280,000 on it, still running strong.
Your dad was very wise!
Now that is incredible.
I don't recall you mentioning that the middle row seats are non- removable. Great machine to haul people, cargo not so much.
I love this Toyota Model XSE. It is nice.
Great job! They way you explained things kept me interested in watching all the way through.
I lost it when he started talking about breaking people’s legs 😂 17:08
I remember my mom driving the 2002 sienna minivan. How times have changed.
You got that right!
Love your humor as well as your reviews ❤
Closing in on 1M subs well deserve brotha keep being great 🔥‼️
I booked my Sienna XSE 25th Anniversary in Nov 2022 and until now the dealer is not able to get the vehicle allotted for me.
Me and my wife wait for the sienna fir months and we give up wait and got honda odyssey whats awesome and 7 k less money
@@no-brainer-gamer5097 seems we have to do the same
Gonna finance this. Move out of my apartment into the sienna. Rent couldn’t be any better with good credit.
Mini vans low key are very underrated and you get a ton for the money.
Hey Joe would you go base model Camaro SS or base model Mustang GT?
If Toyota was serious about making a sporty performance van next up for them is a GR variant
I love this Van ❤️
Minivans looks good with hybrid and it is not so high and low. Perfect driving
Save 5 grand ,plus grand highlander looks kind of boreing
I love Toyota Cement gray color. I have a 05 Golf TDI, and I plan on painting it this color. I love the back end of it. The side back fenders look a bit like the Highlanders
There's no better way to describe practicality without snacks😂.
As a Canadian I’m telling you hands down the sienna is a winner for one key feature. AWD! We have snow 6 months of the year.
Love my 2021 XSE!! Got about 38xxx miles now and not one issue! Have the mica grey, and blacked out the chrome prices looks niceee!
Sure has grown from the Previa. Thanks for the review Joe!
Keep in mind AWD does not come with the 20 inch black wheels. Yes I would prefer the AWD version but not if it comes with the basic chrome wheels
If they last 200k I'd be happy
our 2000 odyssey started suffering from transmission slips at around 200k miles. so the next minivan will likely be a sienna. i think toyotas also use a timing "chain" rather than a timing belt so more robust. the only thing that concerns me about toyota minivan vs honda is siennas are now only hybrid. after the hybrid batteries go out, it might be expensive to replace them which negates the cost savings of getting a hybrid i think. also i really like the magic/sliding seats of odysseys. i wish siennas had that.
Can I ask what your maintenance was on the transmission? That's awesome you have nearly 300k milesnon yours
Yep. My 2012 Sienna is still going strong at 253K miles.
Thanks you for sharing that ownership input.
Would have been helpful to include some info about carseats, like where the latch and tether points are, especially since its targeted towards families.
When I was young I always said that minivans sucked and I would never buy one. I am proud to say I have grown up and left such childish thoughts, and will be purchasing one soon
Thanks for such a thorough review! I really like the van! I'll take a bit less power for better gas mileage any day. Thanks again!
Nice review, no supply dealers market, keep your precious as long as possible!!
I’ll pick Odyssey because of better drivetrain with more pure ICE power that doesn’t need to rev high on freeways!
This is the only minivan I will afford it Joe.
Still baffles me that, in 2023, some manufacturers are using the old incandescent bulbs for the interior and not LEDs. I'm assuming this with the Sienna...giving off the yellow glow.
Never thought I’d want a minivan so bad 😂
Good luck finding one. Dealers are backordered on Siennas. Get on a waiting list. Be prepared to pay $5k-20k above MSRP for one. No thanks. I purchased the Odyssey.
I love the Crome on the doors
Thanks for letting me share the mini vans and laughs with you!
Hey Joe any news on the big three: Camry, Tacoma, and 4runner?
@@ericB3444 Have YOUs heard news Eric
The built in TV is actually really cool. Nice van 👍
Nice review keep up the good work Joe
My 6th grade friend's mom drove one of those station wagons. We sat in the 2 rear bucket seats facing the back like you mentioned, and yes, we made faces to the drivers following us to the beach. LOL. Cement color Sienna XSE is a legit swagger wagon! Great job Joe & Lori and team!
What's the trend of removing metalics from paint, i actually think it looks good..
Sad to see them go, for families.
The crease in rear quarter looks like it was hit by a Giant shopping cart that creased it being dragged along the way.
ALL the hand gestures drove me crazy!
I took my kids van camping inside the odyssey because the 2nd row can be removed while the 3rd row folds flat. I don't think sienna can do that. But that's just about the only thing my odyssey is better than the sienna 😢
Joe and Lori and keep up the good work and I love the video 👍
Still waiting for my XSE. Ordered it last June. When we ordered it we have 2 kids. Need it badly, 3rd baby is otw soon.
I hope it comes soon.
Yikes
Mr. Joe,
Great review, I am looking into finding a good fit to go back and forth from time to time up north to visit family, as we are here in lower Fla. We have the pooch of course and cannot fly home comfortably anymore. This Sienna fills the void I think when I try to get myself motivated to even attempt to take a trip back north. Heavy price tag but not as much as a small van style camper would cost.
Thanks again
Be well
Guys like always great video’s 🇺🇸👍🏻
I really wish that he would have used the xse 25th anniversary edition for this video. Way better than the regular xse and perfectly priced!
You want to know something,my grandma actually wants one of these. And no I’m not joking. 😊
Cool bro

@@DarkJediChrisG-1425 yeah bro,thanks for your input,greatly appreciated. 😊
I’ve been searching and nothing.
WOW!! THATS SO AWESOME!! LOVE U JOE!!
Why couldn't they keep the V6 Siennas going? I feel like when it comes to just having them the hybrids permanently, it just doesn't feel right.
Comfy and great mpg !
And you can live in it when apocalypse comes 🙃
The thing about Minivan is it’s not at a affordable price where average family can have one for the kids and family trip with money leftover for a nice daily driver!
Neither is a larger SUV…that’s the issue. This is MUCH more affordable
🇺🇸 *LIKE this new Sienna XSE* !! *Would not rank it above the Odyssey* !! *Fabulous content Joe and Lori* !! #RaitisRides 🇺🇸
You mention it all the time. Find out and tell us. 1.Why do designers put fake vents in the front and not functional? And 2, why do they put rear windshield wipers at the bottom of the glass instead of more hidden at the top? Like your reviews! Thanks.
Almost 50k and no 360 camera for maximum kids safety running the vehicle.
just curious do you have a 2023 corolla hatchback video on the way?
Great video,
Few things about sienna,
1.Toyota is wayy behind the schedule at least needs 8-9 months to get this vehicle
2. Price is wayy too high now these days for minivan (LE with roof rails and cross bars along with spare tire costs around 41k in NY).
3. Spare tire is optional, if you opted for spare tire it will have its compartment molded on the side in the cargo area (driver side), so in this case if one opted for 8 passengers the middle removable sear cannot be stored in the cargo anymore.(so lack of options)
4. Honda Odyssey, you can store spare tire in the floor or at least store it below the vehicle
5. Plastic everywhere ( not 100% sure but the rear tail gate is made out of plastic )
You don't know much about build materials..
@@piggy310 3 different dealerships had 3 different answers about the materials, and spare tire placement, other people who owned new sienna complained about the material as well.
