Happy Monday everyone, hope you all had a great weekend! Now that we've spent some time with the new Kia Carnival, updated Chrysler Pacifica, and Honda Odyssey, the latest Toyota Sienna may not be the sexiest or most technically minivan, but it remains the only minivan to combine electrification with AWD and at 36 MPG combined, it still rated to get 6 MPG better versus the Pacifica Plug-in hybrid. We got 32 MPG in our testing, which is like 14 MPG better than most of its V6 powered rivals. This is still our favorite minivan in the segment.

A very smooth ride, plenty of acceleration power for changing lanes and making quick passes and merging, a dream compared to our actual family car, a 2010 Mazda 5. Someday I’ll get one of these...
I got a 2021 limited AWD after my 2020 XLE AWD got totalled. The difference between the two are night and day. The interior of the new one is leagues over the old, as is the MPG. The only problem with the 2021 is uphill climbs when the 4cyl works hard and loud compared to the old v6
Honestly they should have put a larger rear motor to make up for the lack of engine power for those uphill roads and get a larger generator sandwiched between engine and transmission.
Why are small brake lights/turn signals the new trend? They make it LED for better viewing and longevity, but then make it tiny. I despise this, especially in the winter when a little piece of crusty snow could fully cover it.
I never thought a minivan could be attractive & get 40 mpg until my parents bought a loaded up Sienna Platinum recently. Awesome for road trips but the handling is even good for short errands around town.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH The fact that your comparing this to a Pontiac Aztek is just mind-blowing. There are MANY other options to compare to the Aztek. This Sienna is 100x better looking to the Pontiac Aztek.
@@naveenthemachine your right, Toyota’s i think makes their trims look TOO different they make it obvious you brought the cheap one not enough standard options
Every other manufacturer's infotainment has reached 2030, but Toyota is still using the 2k infotainment system… because they know people will still be queuing up to buy it no matter what.
In my opinion, the new Sienna is the perfect family and cargo vehicle. It's incredibly fuel efficient that it puts numerous microcars to shame, reliable, well-built, comfortable, dependable, has the space and passenger capacity of a house on wheels, can come with AWD, is loaded with useful tech and storage, has enough power for any commute or long-distance drives, and can even tow more than numerous SUVs.
The perfect cargo vehicle? Far from it sadly. The second row seats don’t even come out and the cargo space is class middling at best compared to the last gen sienna
@@naveenthemachine There's videos that demonstrated that it's possible to remove the second row seats. And even without removing them, it's still an immense amount of space needed to carry anything.
Yeah. I'm wondering why the AWD option doesn't add HP/Tq to the totals? If a 100hp motor was in the rear this thing would have pretty impressive acceleration for a hybrid minivan. Not that it's not adequate as is though.
I don't understand why they don't offer bench seats option on all trim except the top one, what's this NA obsession with captain chairs on even mid-trims. It'll be nice to carry 5 people without needing the rear seats up and use that space for cargo only like an extended SUV.
I love the design and way it looks, wished they were more readily available during this time of car shortages. It's a shame that it's so underpowered. Slow is expected, but I bet after you load up 7 people and some luggage, it'll probably feel and accelerate like a snail. Hopefully Honda does better with their next redesign.
I feel sad for minivans because they're surrounded by negative connotations. People want EVERYTHING a minivan has (space, comfort, fuel efficiency, easy to drive) but as soon as they hear it's a minivan, they don't want it.
I have a 2012 and that came with rear sunshade. But I agree that this should have gotten the Rav 4 prime power train. Nice looking but Hoping to move to a Lexus LX 600 when they put the Thundra hybrid engine in it.
I have a '21 Limited and it rarely gets down to the EPA 36 mpg rating. In over 18k miles, I've seen less than 36 mpg twice. It often gets 40 mpg or more and that converts to some serious range. IMHO, 600 mile range is peak luxury, not having to bother with gas stations. OTOH, I'm not enamored with the seats. They're just a bit too firm for my back and after a few hours my back starts to complain. The lumbar adjustments just make it worse. As noted in the video, there are many things that Toyota could have done better, but the efficiency makes this van a winner. Only the Pacifica PHEV comes close.
@@Stressless2023 Assuming you're referring to the Kia Carnival. Its front-end is hideous with too small headlights. I'm shocked to see the 2 highly visible lines for sliding doors after all the efforts Kia has gone through to make the Carnival look like an SUV.

Former 3 row SUV owner current 2021 Sienna XSE AWD owner. With 2 small kids it’s 100X better. When I see young families struggle loading in kids in a tight parking spot I want to tell them…come over to the minivan side! Don’t fight it. Currently getting 32mpg with lots of idling
I'm switching from a 2020 MDX A-spec to a new 2022 Sienna AWD Limited. The SUV is rewarding to parents, especially me as a driver however the kids often struggle in the third-row with tight space and lack of air-flow. Plus the cargo space of a 3-row SUV is horrible when third row is in-use. I finally realized that mini-van is the correct choice for a family vehicle.
Back up Sensors should be standard to all trim levels for such a large vehicle. Today's urban parking space are getting smaller and aisles are getting narrower. It is becoming very hard to park cars without the sensors and sometimes dangerous. I would prefer the back up and surround sensors instead of the toe kick open & close doors. To use Toe kick open close sensors, we can ruin our favorite shoes or scratch them. My son has 2017 BMW X3 has a surround sensors and 360 view camera in the basic model. Nice features.
Good Review though Couple of incorrect info. There is NO panoramic roof option at any trim and the key fob does have remote start. 3 unlocks Also the screen is 4.2 and not 3.5 And there is power steering telescope on upper trims
I totally agree with this review. Picking this van because of the MPG and Toyota Reliability. If Honda or even Kia offered comparable MPG I would reconsider, but the fuel savings is too significant for me to ignore.
@@RangerRickTV even if they did, it would be very minimal. With the current extreme shortage, car manufacturers and dealerships can almost do whatever they want to consumer. Crazy time, for sure.

“Hell yeah bro, just bought a new Sienna, bout to take it out on some trails” 😂 No but for real, if Toyota is giving us an off-road minivan (that I’d assume literally nobody is asking for), it’s time for Chrysler to give us a hellcat Pacifica.
do you see how many 4runner people buy $50k TRD Pro spec models as antiquated they are, spend like $20k on mods, only to go on gravel trails (that my old civic could do with ease) to pose for the gram? not to mention the yuppie #vanlife people? the sienna would be a much better "overlander" choice for them
Even as a standard hybrid 36mpg it's impressive. Maybe they waited this release for a true Sienna Prime and use the extra space for a true 40 mile EV range. Still looks great and for what people buy a Sienna it just works.
I wish they would equip their new infotainment system with a bigger screen compared to the dated and smaller screen in this one. The infotainment was super dated when it came out a couple years ago and still is, especially when compared to the competition and even Toyotas new system.
Also wish they offer a Sienna Prime PHEV. Wife and I like this look more than the last generation, but it's disappointing you can't get a XLE or above with AWD and 8 seating. Only comes in 7 seats now for the AWD for XLE and above.
@@mikej238 They do exist if your willing to pay over MSRP, lol. I see one dealer with 4-6 Rav4 Prime sitting on their lot but they want $4k "market adjusted" plus another $3k of BS mandatory addons. The honest dealers that do sell at MSRP sell it out fast, but they are first come first serve style sales.
8:10 mark. There is remote start. You press lock 2x and the 3rd time you press lock you hold the lock button until it turns on. Lights will flash to let you know it's on. Unfortunately as soon as you open any door it will shut down. That's just the way Toyota designed it.
Love this minivan my only worry is when you start loading it with people/stuff how gutless this thing will be. The constant CVT/4Cyl drone is not pleasant either.
The sienna weighs 4600lb. And they say can tow 3500. Fucking crazy. Haha. And that’s before any passengers in it. 8000lbs Good luck with that sienna owners
I dunno I’ve driven 7 people in mine with luggage, also loaded it with 1500lbs of sand bags and it was working hard but fine. Mileage was still close to 30
It looks really good. I don't like the hybrid-only thing, no V6, CVT, and you can't take out the second row without going through a lot of hoops because you're not really supposed to remove them.
Previa came with AWD as well. It of course was called the All-Trac much like the ST-185 Celica of its time/generation. Wow she is heavy!!! She looks good for a minivan, Sofyan. If I was younger and needed a van for the kids(Empty-nester now) I would get an AWD version. Great Video Thank You, Sofyan/Redline Reviews.
Ah the previa. It was a mid engined RWD supercharged minivan. The base engine in it was available with a manual God if the sienna were that imagine how much ahead it would have been
Love your reviews. Quick tip, I noticed even with your older videos, that you don't have to fold the backrest down or even fold the headrest down in the 3rd row to fold it into the floor. All you have to do is pull the big plastic handle and pull back, and it will fold into the floor in one motion, including collapsing the headrests. Our 2017 Sienna was like this as well
As an owner, l love most part of the van, only issue is the rear trunk door is plastic. Also the engine struggles when electric motor quit when power is needed. Man, this engine is loud😂

This is your idea of attractive? Yikes. This is one of the ugliest things on the road, rivaling the Pontiac Aztek.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH The fact that your comparing this to a Pontiac Aztek is just mind-blowing. There are MANY other options to compare to the Aztek. This Sienna is 100x better looking to the Pontiac Aztek.
We own a 2021 Sienna and we love it! Great on gas!
toyota been doing a good job with the taillights ever since the camry also avalon compared to their generic looking old models
I think the Camry taillights only look good in xle and XSE. The Lowe end trims ehh not so much
@@naveenthemachine your right, Toyota’s i think makes their trims look TOO different they make it obvious you brought the cheap one not enough standard options
Every other manufacturer's infotainment has reached 2030, but Toyota is still using the 2k infotainment system… because they know people will still be queuing up to buy it no matter what.
i've had mine for a year , simply an amazing car. By far the best overall minivan on the market.
I've always been a van guy since I was in highschool. No matter whatever people say. Van baby!
@@thecriticalthinkeroutsidet4947 based on your logic, there must be videos demonstrating that it’s possible to remove the engine haha 😂😆🤣
@@naveenthemachine There's a video showcasing step-by-steps to remove the seats. ua-cam.com/video/24cYWBiTUwY/v-deo.html
We get 90mpg in our Pacifica Hybrid, love it!
We got 110mpg. Drove from NY to Fla on 8 gallons.
@@malcs3758 in a Pacifica Hybrid?
horsepower boost would perfect this car
Yeah. I'm wondering why the AWD option doesn't add HP/Tq to the totals? If a 100hp motor was in the rear this thing would have pretty impressive acceleration for a hybrid minivan. Not that it's not adequate as is though.
WITH GAS NOW OVER 6 BUCKS A GALLON HERE IN CA, THIS IS THE WAY TO GO!
I don't understand why they don't offer bench seats option on all trim except the top one, what's this NA obsession with captain chairs on even mid-trims. It'll be nice to carry 5 people without needing the rear seats up and use that space for cargo only like an extended SUV.
I agree with you. I need 8pass. with 4wd.
We were disappointed that we had to go without awd to get the 8 passenger xle. And I would've gotten the platinum if it offered 8 passenger
U mean this big Ass minivan gets better city fuel economy than my small Acura ILX? Wow. 👏
Idk thats kindof my dream car. I want the rx 450h drivetrain though
I think that's because of the outside look. But this one looks great
I have a 2012 and that came with rear sunshade. But I agree that this should have gotten the Rav 4 prime power train. Nice looking but Hoping to move to a Lexus LX 600 when they put the Thundra hybrid engine in it.
If this comes out in PHEV later I’ll upgrade our 2021
I have a '21 Limited and it rarely gets down to the EPA 36 mpg rating.
New Toyotas look SO MUCH BETTER!
I like that you put the 0-60 in the thumbnail. Solid flex.
Good looking , good safety features crazy reliable 🦅
Are those aluminum wheels or essentially hubcaps?
Ive Always Thought this was the Sportier looking of the Vans. CRAZEEEE MPG! WOW
I'd have to give that honor to the Kia Carnival.
@@Stressless2023 I actually didnt ask for a Response but ok bud. Just made a comment.
@@Tinrs80 Well you posted your comment "publicly" so it doesn't matter whether you asked for responses or not smh. Common sense. Bud.
@@Stressless2023 Assuming you're referring to the Kia Carnival. Its front-end is hideous with too small headlights. I'm shocked to see the 2 highly visible lines for sliding doors after all the efforts Kia has gone through to make the Carnival look like an SUV.
@@LamNguyen-sr1sy That opinion is definitely in the minority from what I read. Carnival and Pacifica are arguably the best looking in the class according to the masses, myself included.
Press the lock button twice then press and hold the lock button to remote start with key fob.
It has it a great style this minivan it a beauty thanks for this video 😊
We put an order in for the base model front wheel drive on Saturday. Wait time is about 6 months. Awd wait time...up to 2 years they claim.
Geeze. That's nuts.
Rented a 2022 last year while on vacation. Will be the next vehicle purchase as soon as we are able to get our hands on one
Toyota was bold by going 100% hybrid but it paid off!
Yupe, gas is high.
Sienna prime needs to happen.
I enjoy your commentary style. Thanks.
Very nice van love the silver stays clean
Sienna Prime would be a game changer for sure.
Currently getting 75mpg in my 2021 Pacifica plug-in hybrid.
But that powertrain though!
Good Review though Couple of incorrect info. There is NO panoramic roof option at any trim and the key fob does have remote start. 3 unlocks
Also the screen is 4.2 and not 3.5
And there is power steering telescope on upper trims
sin duda el mejo me encantan tus reviews💪🙌
This makes me want to have a family just for an excuse to drive one of these.
or just get one and fill with cargo, its just a crossover but better.
IF you have 4 kids or more, nothing is better than minivan especially the Toyota Sienna. So much cargo space in the back.
I totally agree with this review. Picking this van because of the MPG and Toyota Reliability. If Honda or even Kia offered comparable MPG I would reconsider, but the fuel savings is too significant for me to ignore.
Honda offer hybride model in japan
I rented one and did about 2000 miles over 8 days. Avg low 30's mpg and routinely got 550 range
Nice job and review / test drive Sofyan 😎
Why would they take the vacuum out because of covid?
Yes, the top trim of Sienna used to have vacuum and fridge but they removed them due to supply shortage.
@@LamNguyen-sr1sy I figured. Something tells me they didn’t lower the price when they took these features out.
@@RangerRickTV even if they did, it would be very minimal. With the current extreme shortage, car manufacturers and dealerships can almost do whatever they want to consumer. Crazy time, for sure.
@@LamNguyen-sr1sy ya, that’s why I just walked away from multiple places. I’ll wait.
$1000 down and I have been waiting 4 months so far for one of these, I have an order for an XSE in black, blue or gray. Hard to get, I have only seen one XSE in the wild. Hard to get.
I've never seen the new gen in the wild, ironic given it is the best looking version.
That sucks. I found one 3/10, it was built 3/16 and I got it 3/26!
most ppl buy le’s
We waited about 2 months last year for ours. Worth the wait, we love it
The xse is firm
The terrible drivetrain noise is absolutely absurd in something this expensive. Wow.
For a minivan it looks real good.
“Hell yeah bro, just bought a new Sienna, bout to take it out on some trails” 😂
No but for real, if Toyota is giving us an off-road minivan (that I’d assume literally nobody is asking for), it’s time for Chrysler to give us a hellcat Pacifica.
do you see how many 4runner people buy $50k TRD Pro spec models as antiquated they are, spend like $20k on mods, only to go on gravel trails (that my old civic could do with ease) to pose for the gram?
not to mention the yuppie #vanlife people?
the sienna would be a much better "overlander" choice for them
I'd take a Pacifica Hellcat! Launch control to entertain the kids!
I’m a sport car guy but this makes me wanna get one
Only comes in 7 seats now for the AWD for XLE and above.
you can't find a Rav 4 Prime or a Lexus 450h+.....they don't exist and the wait time is approaching 2 years.
I see that Totota likes to mix led lights with conventional bulbs.
8:10 mark. There is remote start. You press lock 2x and the 3rd time you press lock you hold the lock button until it turns on. Lights will flash to let you know it's on. Unfortunately as soon as you open any door it will shut down. That's just the way Toyota designed it.
Nice looking but that carnival though 👌🏾
Toyota lost me when you said you can't remove the second row seats.
I don’t like mini vans , but let me tell you .. that’s a nice one
Love this minivan my only worry is when you start loading it with people/stuff how gutless this thing will be. The constant CVT/4Cyl drone is not pleasant either.
Plenty of power if you can handle some extra engine noise. once you're up and going its very quiet.
It’s fine
Soyfan, is the XSE suspension too stiff as you described it last year?
I drive an 08 Sienna XLE and I love it but would love to swap it for one of these! Their hard to get rn!
A small v-6 hybrid would be nice with a normal 8-speed auto !
I like it Redline…it looks sharp u know when we talking about Toyota or Lexus… its lots of sharp cutting edge styling 🤛🏾
You stated that higher trims can get a pano roof this year?!? That confirmed?
Lmfao I like how they have the soccer field in the background. I’m a soccer dad. Love the market skills!!
Mileage was still close to 30
@@UA-camuser1aa That’s pretty awesome. Toyota motors can take a beating
Make this this platform into a mini truck then Toyota will own the market.
The base engine in it was available with a manual
God if the sienna were that imagine how much ahead it would have been
I love the Sienna!
Honda needs to make a hybrid Odyssey.
Wow Sienna 2022 is very luxury. I ove it so much.
Our 2017 Sienna was like this as well
Wheres the 17?
I have a 2022 and actually just went outside to check if I've been doing it wrong
As an owner, l love most part of the van, only issue is the rear trunk door is plastic. Also the engine struggles when electric motor quit when power is needed. Man, this engine is loud😂
Why electric motor quit? I guess battery was out of juice?
