Fr. Mike emphasizes the importance of knowing God and knowing his love for us as we read about the devastation of war and the lack of faith displayed by Israel. Without a deeper knowledge of God, not only can we struggle for hope in God's plan, but we can also fall into the temptation of losing faith in him altogether. Today's readings are 2 Kings 6-7, Hosea 4-7, and Psalm 103.

I stopped listening for awhile... then I heard someone say something abt exodus I knew was wrong because I read it here while following in my bible... Reminded me how important it is to know the word of God yourself. So I'm back on it and I'm praying for strength not to fall off again.

At age 76, I am still having trouble understanding the OLD Testament. All the MANY Names confuse me, and the many murders do too. I keep trying.
I started reading the Bible this year at age 67 and love it! I can’t seem to get enough of it

A wonderful step towards the protection of the unborn. How agonisingly fitting that today’s passage from Kings speaks of man’s fallen capacity to act barbarically towards children. Let’s pray fervently for us to grow in that intimacy with God that Hosea speaks of and that we may protect always the unborn and most vulnerable 💞✝️

I love this interpretation of Hosea's "lack of knowledge" as it being about INTIMATE knowledge of God (with probable marriage relationship overtones, as us the bride and God/Jesus Our Husband (like in Song of Solomon))!!! This intimate practical relationship is actually key!

This is a great reminder that God is always with us and also why wars are bad.
*Elisha shows that God is always with us even when we feel like God is distant. Also that God's forces are greater than the evil forces and sins.
*Elisha's insight and wisdom exceed Elijah. Jesus’ wisdom and insight exceed everyone as He is the Son of God.
* All the people died due to their lack of vision or knowledge of God. This shows that they were aware of God and what to do but they lacked the understanding and the relationship that required to “know” God. We actually become a part of God through sacraments and the Eucharist.
*Psalm - Thanksgiving to the Lord for His kindness. God is merciful to those who fear Him and follow the covenant as well as commandments. Humans are like grass, flower blossoms over it, the wind passes over it, and it is nothing. Beautiful prayer and Thanksgiving. Praise the Lord.
* The situation is pretty bad and I felt sorry for the women who had to be cannibals and even then there was injustice (the other woman hid her child but ate the first woman's child, so horrible. I pray that such things never happen again in the world). The story about the incident during the siege against Jews by the Romans in 70 CE / AD also made me feel sorry. Wars are pretty bad. God still fought for unfaithful people for Elisha's sake.

Does the Lord withdraw from individuals as He does from nations? What do you do when the Lord withdraws from you? Does He come back if you change your ways? When He withdraws from an individual does that persons life just have poverty, sickness and misery? What would make God withdraw from individuals?
God is always waiting for us to return to him. For the most part, we turn our backs on God. In the bible, God shows there are consequences for our actions, especially when they go against the goodness of God. Yet, he rejoices when we repent. Does this make sense?

Some other languages even have a different verb for knowing information from knowing a person (being in relationship).
The story of Moses happened before the story of these two mothers who would roast their son to eat, then they were not observing the Ten Commandments, and it was a very barbaric time. We could only assume that food was scarce, and they were about to die of hunger anytime for them to resort to eating their own children. I once interviewed some boat people who came to the United States. I was told that these boat people were lost at sea for days, someone on the boat died, and they themselves were about to die of hunger as well. They did not want to eat human meat, they were hallucinating, but they had to eat to survive. They said that at the time they were chewing some meat, they knew that they were chewing something but they were not that coherent to know what they chewing. They were experiencing blurred vision, dizziness, and they were about to pass out. Needless to say, it was such a harrowing experiment. People in general are good. They do not sin on a daily basis if they are taught to love God and others with all their hearts and souls.

I love BIY, but one small complaint: pronouncing the name of Elijah's successor as "Elisha" [pronounced El-eye-sha]. For those who listen not born in the u.s. of a. these two pronunciations are indistinguishable.

This story does not sound like Gods Blessings and Graces are flowing? These people are boiling their children for food? Personally, I know when i was younger and just not mindful of God and had no interest in serving Him my life was pretty empty. I was not 'in His graces' and I could tell. Happily I did not have to boil anyone but prosperity was limited.
I would rather die than roast my own son and eat him. How could she do that to her son? I could never do that.
I thought when you are in sin God withdraws His graces from you until you reconcile with Him in Confession. When His graces are withdrawn you have basically no blessings and life just gest miserable until you make it right. God's grace is not limitless. He stops it until you get right. Your prayers go unanswered during that time too.
I dare say there are many many rich and happy persons who refuse God’s call. Please do not equate modern physical lack or neediness as a punishment from God.
Even when we are in sin. God's grace seeks us out, like a shepherd seeking one lost sheep. If we return, it is because He called us back. No one can come unto God unless the Father draws him.
Only the grace of God allows us to seek reconciliation, so no, He does not withdraw graces and blessings when we are in sin. He does not stop listening to our prayers - if He did, he would not hear our prayers of repentance and sorrow for our sins. The Lord is with us in our struggles and when we stop walking with Him, He carries us.
