Fr. Mike explains why all of us are called to listen to the prophets of the Old Testament, and why their role is so important in salvation history. Each of us is building some kind of life and picture of eternity: the question we must ask ourselves is are we building it with God or against him? Today's readings are 2 Kings 8, Hosea 8-10, and Psalm 108.

I have read the Bible by myself before, but, Fr. Mike makes it truly “come alive”…. & the actions, both good & bad, are especially meaningful to me as he goes into detail about the whys & wherefores of each particular event as it unfolds before our very eyes.

May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, discerning, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand God's voice in both the Old & the New Testaments that we may revere & treasure them which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.

Lord, I still have so many questions. Do not let me go. I know you're not done with me yet. I am still in pursuit of knowing me through knowing you. Accompany me on choosing your will specially when the world is too loud and overwhelming, let me hear your still small voice again. Calm but sure. Help me to always put it in context. Allow our life/ house on setting it on the rock so when the rain falls, winds come and buffet our life/ house, it will not collapse and ruin, because you let us built these on you. Our sure foundation. Amen.

I'm not Catholic nor were my Grandparents. But I do remember my Grandma saying a woman was like Jezebel. It was not a compliment. I didn't know who Jezebel was, but I knew that wasn't good. My Grandma was a good God Fearing Lady. I miss her but Thank God for her. Someday I will see her again.

DAY 176..imagine being sent to find out that your, say (your boss) sent you to inquire about his or her health and upon hearing the news, you'll be the one to snuff the life from them, to say inherent his business 🤔 simply pure evil..
Once again we hear the transgressions of God's chosen people and the service of the baals..how many times does it take to figure out what is evil in the sight of the Lord? You'd think that they'd learn from the generations of earlier to just follow the Lord's statutes!!!

Only taken 50 years. Will we ever learn???!! God doesn't turn His back, we do. Our time runs out and He gives us what we have chosen. Amazing.

I'm up to 176 as of tomorrow (10/25/21)...I started early summer after someone told me of this bible study, then a 2nd woman came up to me. Really glad this was brought to me & a friend of mine wants to start too. Many blessings to you!
Great, as usual Father Mike. Thank you for your dedication to bringing these Bible readings to us daily and, of course, your explanations. I would be lost if you didn't do that at the end of the readings.
"The things I do today have eternal consequences!" I have found this line from a priest I know (Fr. Andiy) to be a wonderful tool as it makes me think before I speak or act.
I always like the summary that you get them at the end because biblical texts often difficult to understand. I’ve learned so much and it’s hard to believe that I’ve listen to this podcast for almost 6 months.

I loved the Cap’n Crunch line that was just too funny . I do love that when you do the explanation after the scriptures every now and then there is a little joke . We do need to laugh it does lighten the load. Thanks much for my good laugh for the day and I think you are so awesome and just love the Bible in a year . I’m starting to understand more of the Bible and live God’s word .

A great reminder to turn to God and Jesus while we can!
*Hazael - from a servant to a King of Syria that harmed God's people. That's something only possible because of God's plans. All the king of Syria had to do was not harm God's people.
* Like Hosea says, God indeed wants us to come back but if we are not listening for too long, we often get what we want. However, there's never too late when it comes to Jesus. But we must repent while we are alive on Earth. Thus, we see many repent and get baptized before death. Our time is limited so earlier the better.
* I got to learn about the Jehoram and Ahab connection along with the connection to Jezebel and Athaliah.. All the wicked people being connected from North to the South but still God helping David’s family to have existence.
*Psalm 108- a great prayer for deliverance.

Great reflection Fr. Mike, Thank-you for opening our eyes and putting the words of Prophet Hosea into context for us. I now understand and its finally making sense to me. I choose to build my life on Jesus - if not, the choice I make is the choice I will get for all eternity and I definitely do not want to spent eternity separated from God!
Dear Father Mike, thank you for your beautiful reading and comentaries. Understadning and knowing the heart of God, His desires for us and His love for us is truly incredible. Your emphasis today on what we chose in our lives is determining our eternity is the somber remider of how significant our decisions are when it comes to either walking with God or without. Thank you for emphesizing the gravity of our eternal disposition before God based on what we choose in our lives right now. This is a very important part of our decision making that is most important and most significant. I am personally grateful to God Jesus Christ that I am no longer seperated from Him but healted and restored and being able to look forward to spending eternity in His blesse, precious and Holy presence. No longer fear death but look forward to death because through the door of death I will step over to His eternal dimention that I am so looking forward to. God bless.

I think I will need to start going here for these. When I started the Bible in a Year I was listening on Assention Press's site but then the episodes didn't always upload when they were supposed to. I then listened on Audible without issue for close to 100 episodes but then that started not uploading properly. I went back to Assention but they are frequently a day behind. You wouldn't think it should be so difficult to follow a podcast - but I guess the Lord wants to make me work for this one...
@bjdenil I agree. Much better on UA-cam. It has the entire readings, prayer and commentary written below. Plus I enjoy reading and learn from others comments.

I'm a practicing Catholic I was having trouble on my job because I have bone on bone and could not work work cuz I can't walk very well so I took a early retirement between my Social Security am I pension I make almost as much as I was when I was working and God blessed me didn't lose my job I had enough money to take care of my family my kids and my wife and that's a blessing they did not kick me out for my job because of medical so I retired I was able to do that 2018 Harvey tired

Just took delivery on a set of the Liturgy of the Hours to broaden my understanding of our precious Catholic faith. Now I have to learn how to use it.
At the suggestion of my spiritual director, I have been using an online (free) one ("Catholic exchange divine office" will get you there). It has Morning Prayer (Lauds); Evening Prayer (Vespers); and Night Prayer (Compline). It is proving to be a good starting point for me. Hope this helps! 🙏

God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy.
I don't know what I am building. Been stuck in this position for 30 something years. I am certain it's as long as that. & I hear what to do but it seems impossible. This situation must be contagious because my son has been stuck in a place that's unhelpful since my dad died. Yes that's it. It's all been since Dad died for both of us. 2011. & that's when I started my youtube channel. Actually since mum died 1999.
