Omg I had the scariest experience of my life with my robo dwarf -so I was cleaning his cage with my mom and I said “I’ll grab a cup to move him to the spare cage” she said “no no my cup” I said “but he will” *hamster jumps onto floor* I launch to grab him and he squeals but I didn’t hurt him and she said “ok we will use a cup next time”

I’ve had my hamster for almost two weeks. She lets me handle her, but only if I wear gloves. It’s funny though. If she sees my bare hand she ignores it but she loves my gloves 😂

Try to offer her food on your hand, and keep on doing it until she fully gets on your hand and she trusts you. Be slow and careful and try being calm, if you don’t trust them, they won’t trust you.
My hamster had a horrible last owner and she used to be scared all the time 🥺 after a few weeks she started to come out when I called her name she then started to climb into my hand 😊 I learnt a lot from this video thank you

I work at a pet store and we got a black russian dwarf in and he was the only one out of the dwarf hamsters that would let me pick him up and I immediately fell in love and just got him today! hes so calm but active and seems to love to be held !
When I bought my hamster I just waited for a bit and she came and started cleaning herself in my hand. A year later she's my little furbaby, super tame and never bitten me. She seems to enjoy being with humans and running around on the coffee table and sofa ❤❤

make sure the hand does not smell food, only natural smell there should be no perfume or any odor

thank you so much! this helped me my with my dwarf hamster. he was scared to crawl on my hand at first but after awhile he got used to me and crawled on my hand! it was so cute! thanks again for the help and advice :)

I have a winter dwarf hamster I put my hand in the cage quite and slow and he still doesn't trust me what should I do?😭
Emily Frost I suggest starting by giving them a treat once a night and after a week start putting it in your hand and let them take it. When they take it and sit in your hand you can start “bathtub bonding” I was able take my winter white dwarf like this.
First few days don’t do anything to its cage just sit outside and talk to it so it gets used to you voice. When you play with it talk to it so it kind of knows it’s you. The number one thing you need is patience.

Emily me and my mom get my hamster out to try and let it get used to us then try feeding him or her or playing with some toys ( if you have some ) and handle it a lot in the first few days the more you handle it the more it trusts you it will get quite friendly towards you

This video is very helpful thank you so much for sharing! I bought my nearly 8 year old daughter 2 Russian Dwarf hamsters thus week. She has called them 'Sugar & Spice'. Sugar is very timid, gentle and shy but is starting to show a very ladylike personality. Spice is definitely fluffier! She seems like she may enjoy being held and interacts much more with us at the side of the cage. My daughter is autistic and struggles very much with regulating her emotions and has various sensory overload but we've already a big difference in her character. She seems much calmer for sure. She's eager to get handling the hamsters but I'm building that up slowly with her. We put together a playpen and she sat in the middle of it. She sat so still and let Sugar & Spice run around her and climb up on her legs etc. I've never seen her keep focused for so long!
We have so much to learn. I'm worrying that the bigger hamster might be a boy as it's bigger, fatter and fluffier. I know it's difficult to know for sure but what are the tell tale signs of them being opposite sex? Sugar lays on her back sometimes when they are huddled up together. They both seem friendly and not showing signs of aggression. x
I’ve read that most hamsters don’t do well in pairs, they can get very territorial & can fight to death. 🥺
I got a Russian Hamster today.Im not allowed to handle it till Sunday because it is stressed.Its name is Ham and it’s 8 weeks old.My sister got a hamster and named it Oreo.My hamster has red eyes.It is not medical conditions though and Oreo has brown eyes.They both have white fur but Oreo has a tiny bit of brown fur on his back.They are in their cage right now.Got them from pets at home and spoilt them rotten with food,toys,straw and chewing things.Please with Ham and Oreo a long happy life.

Your hamster is a beauty!! I've had dwarf hamsters but never knew how to hand tame them. I've only had 2 hand tamed hamsters so far because they were syrian hamsters & they let me hand tame them. The other hamsters I have had didn't, though one of them who I think was a dwarf hamster allowed me to hand her treats by hand. But I didn't know how to hand tame without getting bitten by her & making her stressed out. Thank you for explaining it! I'm hoping to get another new hamster soon & I'll get a dwarf hamster. This video will come in handy then too.

I named the Energetic one Azura and the sleepy one Aphrodite. They’re really jumpy and bite 24/7, i hope your tips help :) I would love to be able to hold them. I know they aren’t used to being held.
I bought a russian dwarf hamster yesterday and gave it time to settle in. Its surprising how active he was at night cuz I could barely sleep. I didnt really need to go in with any caution because I held some sunflower seeds and he came and ate them right from my hand. As it becomes more tame I can't wait to see how life unrolls for the little creature
I got my dwarf hamster a few days ago and the first night was terrible. The wheel that came with the cage was so loud that I barely slept a wink, and I had an exam that day. I bought her a silent wheel but she hasn’t tried it yet. What is yours called? I named her Rin.

Oh my goodness, your hamster is so sweet and so adorable. I had a Roborovski that was tame like yours. He was so sweet. He spun in circles a lot, I think that was just how he was born, but he was super sweet and let me hold him, and he would wait at the front of cage to take treats. He passed a few years back. I miss him!
Currently, I have two Russian dwarf females, possibly hybrids? I have one that is spotted with grey spots and the other looks like yours with the stripe down back with a light grey and white coloring. They are supposedly from the same litter according to the employee my boyfriend talked to. They seem very lively and outgoing when watching them and when I approach the aquarium to look at them, but one is extremely nippy. I tried to tame and was nipped hard on my finger, but I realized that after further reading the Russian dwarf can be very territorial over their space, and I had used the ball to transport her out, and the ball had been open and in her aquarium for a few days so they could get used to it. Thus, she probably got defensive since it smelled like her home. I’ve had the two of them for roughly 3 weeks and I want to start taming, but a bit scared to handle, maybe I’ll use gloves and bathtub taming. I have raised a lot of robo hamsters, and never had this issue, but I am new to Russian dwarfs.
I feed them seed mix and dried meal worms and they live in a large aquarium that has more length than height. They have plenty of toys and a variety of wood chews. They do have some scuffles sometimes, and I saw the one that had bit me was cornered by the other one, and it occurred to me that may be the reason for her aggression. She may just feel defensive because of her feeling bullied. I’m still working on getting another wheel, although they’d share sometimes, but now the other one is starting to bully her away from running on the wheel.
I’ve read most hamsters don’t do good in pairs, they can fight to death. 🥺

I just got a dwarf yesterday from someone who has had him for over a year. I’m really experienced with animals but this is only my second hamster since childhood. He’s very outgoing and will come right up to you in the cage and he lets you pick him up and keep him moving but the moment he’s not doing anytning or the moment our fingers are in reach he will nibble at them and won’t stop it’s like he’s pulling on it and he only does it to fingers. He will walk onto our hands, take treats from us and eat in our hands but he won’t stop nibbling he has even broken skin from excessive nibbling in an area. (I say nibbling because I have been bitten by a hamster before like teeth all the way sunken in my skin and this is not that at all)we make sure our hands are clean always and we never lift him higher then his enclosures height.

I rehoused dwarf hamster from my local pet store once. Dave was his name. His notes stated he was vicious. I was handling him by day 2. He was such a character. He would happy lie on his back in my hand while nibbling on treats. It’s interesting you use as glass. I would never pick Dave up directly from his cage. That was his territory. He would sit on his seesaw while I picked that up out of the cage. Then he was totally relaxed when I handled him.

I just got my two roborovski dwarf hamsters.
I was getting one and calling him Bob Ross, turns out there were two and i didn;t want to seperate them cause they were snuggling, and so I got both and named one Bob and one Ross.
