had a couple of these when i was a kid. woke up to the traumatizing scene of one of them eating the cheek of the other that was laying motionless on the cage floor but was still breathing.
There's a cage overtop that I just removed for the video, they can't get out when it's on there. Thanks for watching! I ended up giving most of them away to friends and family :)
I loved this video, it makes me want to raise baby hamsters lol. They all look so healthy and adorable. I have a few questions, after the male and female hamsters have bred, do you still keep them together or do you separate them? Also, would these hamsters eventually end up fighting with one another? I had two winter whites purchased in the same location, but after two weeks, they were fighting a lot and I had to separate them.
U have to seperate the male from the female for a few months before u think about breeding again if u keep them together he can either kill the babies or over breed with the female which can kill her i have robos they just gave birth with robos u can keep them as a colony but to be on the safer side seperate the male and females but they dont fight but they have to be born together for them to be able to stay together if they arent born together and lets say u put either two females together or two males together they will fight and kill each other bc they wont know who each other are make sure they are siblings so u can house them together if u have any other questions u can ask
I bred hamsters once, a brown banded male with a albino female, she had a litter of 6 (4 male, 2 female) and they were all healthy and survived, one thing I noticed about them was about into their 3rd week they would go into the tube attached to the cage and just stay in there altogether XD Was worried one of them in the middle might get thirsty and not get out for a drink
@@em9402 In hindsight its probably because the cage they were using wasn't very big so they just used the tube to get some kip ^^; Still nice of them to let mom have the bed to herself though
@@shadowezeaur Once they grow up we move them to a much larger custom cage. It's important not to move them while they're babies to avoid stress for the mom. Thanks for watching!
My hamster had a baby and the baby looks to be closer to the 20 ish to 30 day mark. Last night the mother was trying to attack baby. I separated baby from mother but wanted to know if i should put him back with her? Any advice
With dwarf hamsters you can actually handle them at any age without too much of a threat but I'd personally suggest waiting until they have fur and are crawling around already. Remember the smaller the litter, the quicker they'll grow. These took a month because there were so many. If you only had 3 or 4 it could be half as long until they're roaming their cage and safe to touch/handle!
I hate to be a drag but I hope thos cages aren't their permanent cage because those cages are not suitable for them the minimum the cage is supposed to be is "24×12×12"
You're not a drag at all, it's a perfect legitimate concern. I only had them in the small cage while the mother hamster was with her babies. Once they grew up they were moved into a custom 2' x 2' cage that has tons of room to play and roam
I love this video ! I got emotional because of how cute they look! My dwarf hamster just gave birth to 6 cute hamsters :) I’m so proud ! Do you have Instagram or anything to stay in contact with you so you can give me tips?

This specific breed of hamster has never had that problem. I've been working with them for over a decade now and have yet to lose a baby due to them being handled. This may not be the case with other breeds though so be careful!

That's normal, they usually hide their babies. Let the mother hamster find the babies or use gloves from the start if you're scared to handle them.

Hamsters should never be fed any citrics like orange or lemon.

You should get a bigger cage. Like a rectangle fish tank.
They were moved to a larger cage once the babies grew up. A smaller enclosure helps the mom keep track of them better in my experience.
