Just installed these lights on my 2019 Subaru Outback. The installation took about 2 hours and nothing out of the ordinary when comparing to this video. The only thing I did differently was tighten the lights on the bracket just enough before installing so I can aim the lights without taking everything out again and re-tighten.
Just installed in 2015 3.6R. Here are some tips. 1) Borrow some ramps or a lift - this requires lots of reaching up into the internals of the car. 2) The instructions really need to say go ahead and attach the proper plug *before* inserting the SS3s. There is a very good reason for this... The connector on the back of the light is TIGHT. This is desirable from a waterproofing/durability POV, but you cannot really do this when the light is attached to the bracket (which flexes.) You can easily feed the attached plug through the hole as the light is inserted. EVEN with it off and in my hand, it took effort to get the plugs in. 3) Before installing, tear off some little strips of duct tape to hold the mounting bolts on during install. I tried a little adhesive caulk like the instructions said, but that didn't work well. The duct tape (gorilla tape actually) did a great job. 4) and this might be common knowledge to those working on these... make sure you turn the fog light switch OFF before plugging the lights in to test or you will absolutely blow the little 10A fuse - they are very sensitive. 5) It is SUPER easy to forget to put the 2 clips (per side) back in the lights before you button things up. I bought the Sport edition (lowest power) because I already have KC Hillites Pro6 lights on the car and KC didn't release an Outback version of theirs. The SS3 Sport's brightness is just what I wanted. I just hope they're reliable.
These light are great. The installation is not as easy as this video might make out. Certainly not as easy as the ones I did on my Crosstrek. The angle of things under the nose of the Outback almost requires ramps or a lift. The 2 carriage bolts are unretained so they will fall out very easily and the finger holding idea is again a lift facilitated action. All that is needed to make this tit is some small o-rings that could be used to retain the bolts while they are being lined up. They would compress or destruct once they nuts were tightened. I didn't have any so I had to use tape to hold the heads in place. An hour per side that should have taken less than 1/2 that time.
I installed these recently and used a bit of painters tape to hold the bolts in while mounting to ensure they didn't drop out while aligning with the holes. In hindsight, I think it would have been easier to just drop the bumper cover. Just remove the push clips from top and bottom of the bumper cover, pop the retention clips around the headlights and you have easy access to the fog light mounting brackets.
Does this apply with a 2012 outback, I was thinking if I change the oem light I might have to have a switch to manually turn them on and off, mine are auto matic

However, we do offer our new SL2 LED bulbs that will be a simple bulb replacement and give you a great upgrade! You can aim them by loosening the bolts holding the pods onto the bracket, move the pod up or down, and then tighten the bolts back down.
