    This looks great! What did you use for the barrier to contain the ice? I like that it's stackable.

    @corkylorenz Your scientific approach and observation skill unmatched. Love your approach and your work is gorgeous! Question: I’ve been searching for that ice barrier you’re using and I can’t get it to come up in a google search. Please please tell me where to find those or what to search for?

      Aww you comment really makes my day. 🥰 those are called “magic tracks” and I think you can get them online or in thrift stores if it’s your lucky day.

      Do you dye them starting off dry?

    • @Dyes4days
      @Dyes4days 11 місяців тому

      @@corkylorenz i used to presoak then tie and let them dry. sometimes theyd come out good but it was super inconsistent so i got frustrated and switched to paul kenneys liquid tech , but this makes me want to try ice again

    Love your work Corky! Thanks for sharing your processes. Can you use any black under the ice? Do i need one that splits less?

    • @corkylorenz
      @corkylorenz  6 місяців тому +1

      Hey!! I just saw all of your wonderfully encouraging comments! I will be back later but just wanted to answer the black dye question. I do think it matters which black you use, if you want a softly blended shadow effect. Jet black by Jacquard is good for this because it seems to react slower to the fibers. So you can move it more before it’s stuck. You can accidentally wash it completely out with too much ice 😆
      Raven black seems to react so fast that it’s blotchy. I haven’t tested many others yet.

    Between each section, I hold the string a little so it's not holding the layers so tight against each other.

    Question: Does a lighter, lesser amount of colored dye yield slightly muted color and/or less color spread?
    Separately, I like how throwing in the black underneath and colors over the ice lends itself to a muted “ripple” background with the pops of color!

    • @corkylorenz
      @corkylorenz  11 місяців тому +1

      The colors do seem to be a little muted? But I wouldn’t say the shirt looks faded. I think more ice helps the dye to spread further. Getting reds to spread is quite a feat tho.

    • @smiletime
      @smiletime 11 місяців тому

      @@corkylorenz No, shirt def doesn't look faded! Did not at all mean anything negative by the term "muted." Perhaps less color saturated would be a better way to phrase it. Very new to this, but I find the more subtle blends far more appealing that say brilliant, super saturated primary colors. What I'm trying to figure out is the degree to which the amount of dye affects the varying levels of a color vs say the random dilution of the dye in water or the color choice in itself. Hard to say, since they are all variables. Love the way the shirt turned out though!

    while I appreciate a soft color palate I think this could have been a bit brighter. So maybe you wanting to be a bit heavier-handed was instinct?

      What do you mean? You want to see the shirt being tied? I have other videos showing that process. I don’t do it every video because it’s basically the same.
