Moved here from Idaho in January and I think you are pretty spot on with most of these. The other con I would add is housing affordability. We paid the same amount for just a lot here that we paid for an entire house in Idaho.

I moved here for a better job opportunity 6 years ago. My biggest con I’ve experienced after relocating here is the high cost of housing. My new job allowed me to make the most money I’ve ever made in my life but I did not qualify for any apartments I’ve looked at. One time I barely qualified for an apartment but it was small and overpriced. Finding affordable housing is a challenge especially when you’re single and living alone.
You are SO correct! Affordable housing is our biggest threat to the State of Utah

Yes, if you're in Miami and you're not paying attention to a Utah, it's absolutely rising here and it's completely useless to compare it to specific cities on the coasts like Miami, New York, San Francisco, etc. Something doesn't have to be compared to another city, but rather should be compared to the market where one lives and earns a living. Lastly, I'd appreciate a little more respect in your choice of words. Have a great day!
I’m a bit confused. I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’ve said nothing rude about my comment to your video. All I’ve said was that the cost of living in Utah is a little high. I’m not from Miami or any city on the west or east coast. I moved here from Las Vegas about 6 years ago.

I've been traveling here and there for 22 years. I've been to every single state except for Hawaii. Betty Jean Eadie will tell you that the slightest thing that anyone does effects the world for better or worse. As much traveling as I've done, my comments carry more weight behind them than than Rick Steves and Samantha Brown COMBINED!
I would love to visit as many places as you have one day!
Too many people live here anymore. I'm native of SLC. Can't enjoy anything. Crowded and expensive.

My experience in Utah was AWESOME. I spent a few weeks visiting a friend north of SLC and liked the atmosphere. I'm in Houston right now and am desperate to leave. I applied to a couple of jobs in SLC via referral, so fingers crossed.

I know it's not exactly your fault, and I don't mind the concept of this video or people moving to Utah, but young people who grew up in Utah are literally unable to buy homes here because of how much prices have risen in the past 10 year. Even with a decent job I can only afford a mortgage for a house that costs about $200,000, and unless you go wayyyyy out into the desert the minimum price on even a condo or fixer-upper is $300,000. I would have to make $80-90K a year just to qualify to buy anything on the wasatch front, and I make just over half that which is really good for someone my age. Unless you have rich family or get really lucky, you're pretty much screwed trying to afford any housing here. If you have older children who are getting closer to the age of moving out DO NOT MOVE TO UTAH! Your kids will be stuck with you forever unless they're really successful.
You absolutely nailed this comment. I'm really passionate about Utah's housing affordability crisis and I'm really looking to get involved at the highest level possible to hopefully be able to provide solutions and make a change. This is Utah’s greatest threat to its success in the future in my opinion.
Come live in Hawaii and I tell you what is expensive. $6 milk, average house is over a million. Almost $5 gas. I laugh when people complain about cost of living. Hawaii is the number 1 for highest cost of living!
@scottdsteele there's not much more room to grow proper SFHs within the wasatch valleys. Setting aside the affordability issue, if people want growth here to never stop, then the result will be piling on top of each other like sardines. When it's all single childless people living in pods, it won't be the Utah you describe here anymore
Seems like only developers love the growth, others are trying to find the minimum amount of open spaces where I live, so they can stand it, and other people won’t get mad, and no one loves the traffic, it is dangerous, I get scared as a rider….the whole way, if I have to ride on the freeway. The smaller canyons are crowded now. I do not breathe as well as I did where I grew up….because I am nervous of the air. And in my area, they are getting people to prepare for the big one. I won’t say the rest, but there are growing typical big city issues where I live.

You forgot the massive amount of nats and mosquitoes as a con. I came from Miami and never experienced anything like the amount of bugs I see here. It’s almost to the point where I want to move 😂
Where are you experiencing this? Utah is so much better than most states due to its arid climate. Unless you live right next to water, it's almost never an issue at all.
I’m near Ogden just 30 mins north of salt lake. I’ve experienced terrible bug issues where I’m at. I went to antelope island last week and it was also a night mare even with bug spray. I love the outdoors here compared to Miami (we only have beaches lol) i just need to carry a can of spray to help 😂
@natefiggs Got it! Yes, right next to the Great Salt Lake is absolutely terrible especially right now at this time of year! My wife and I drove to Antelope Island last year at precisely this time of year when those gnats and bugs have hatched and it was almost apocalyptic and our black suv was plastered. Outside of this spot, or anywhere right next to water, Utah is super easy for bugs like this. You might want to live just a little further from the Great Salt Lake
Is living in Utah as expensive as Orlando Florida?
Do you serve the whole state? As a couple that are both remote workers, internet speeds are paramount. Would like to see more information on this feature of different locations.
Yes, I / we do....I have a small team and other than a few small towns to the east and southeast, we cover all 5 metro areas plus the entire Wasatch Back and beyond.
Speaking to your point on internet speeds, Utah ranks #2 out of the 50 states for internet access... and as for speed we're in the middle of the pack ranked @ #30 with an average speed of 314 mbps. As for the best cities in Utah... here they are:
#1 Mapleton
#2 Murray
#3 Roy
#4 Syracuse
Beyond this, Salt Lake City also has great infrastructure that includes Google Fiber. Google Fiber is the fastest provider in Utah followed by XFINITY (Comcast)
@@scottdsteele If you are in Utah or SLC county you almost always have access to a fiber solution. If you get out to rural areas it gets patchier in terms of coverage, though I somehow never lose cell service.

If you are outdoorsy you'll love it! Between the bad air quality, inversion, and general higher altitude thinner air you can feel the struggle to breathe even more on a beautiful hike which could easily be too hot, too cold, or both hr to hr. If you came to enjoy the greatest snow on earth you can enjoy it up close and personal on your driveway, car, sidewalks, and even in your face! With winters so cold the bitter air can give you brain freeze. Good times for all those who love being cold and wet. It's fun digging your car out when you get stuck or slide off the road. Like sledding but in a heavy metal vehichle. You might get killed, you might not, it's anyone's guess....
If you're into the outdoors, you'll love pretty much sums things up!
@@scottdsteele sure if you want to make sales and pretend there are no cons. I've lived here my whole life and while it can be pretty it's really giving an influencer highlight reel or sales pitch pov to pretend it's all picturesque hiking and skiing when it's not. The reality is a pretty harsh contrast if no one prepared you for it, especially for those coming from states like Arizona, California etc that aren't used to the crazy weather shifts. Utah is struggling right now in a lot of ways based on the people who live and work here and have for years. Some stupid biased articles come out nad try to say otherwise but they aren't the ones struggling to find affordable housing or buy groceries. If people want to move here that's fine but they should get an honest review on what it's like to live here....probably from people that don't profit off of those people moving here
Have you even watched my videos? I DO point out the negatives... the Pros and the Cons. Where in the world do I pretend there are no cons? You can literally see the video on the Front of my UA-cam channel where I talk about the Pros & CONS... it's right there as the very first video that people see when they visit my channel. I've lived here my entire life as well and I work with people moving here very frequently and there are Pros and Cons to everywhere, everything and everyone.

Thanks for that feedback Lynette and I do agree with you for sure. When I redo this video in about 6 months, I will definitely leave that out.
As for affordability, yes... this is becoming our biggest enemy and something I'm really passionate about. I'm going to create videos just on that alone as well.

personal question, do you make videos like these to convince people to come to Utah. and by scheduling a call to get to "know us", would that be when you'd be like.. hey "I'm a realtor and i know where to get you the best houses for the best prices!" thus you benefiting in the long run. because if this is your goal, i got to tell you its smart as heck. and GOD Bless you for that. i just really hope you arent one that rips people off 🙂
I'm not sure how in the world I would ever be able to "rip people off" let alone convince people to move here. I'm 100% transparent in what I'm doing and that begins and ends with me answering people's specific questions around moving to and living in Utah and it just so happens that I love doing it. I'm also a huge fan of my home state of Utah and my audience is people looking to relocate here or people who live here. I'm also 100% transparent in who I am as a real estate expert and agent and that I would love to be their real estate resource of choice. Simplified... client attraction (not selling or convincing or ripping off) through value giving service using relevant content to answer people's questions.

Not really but prepared for missionaries coming back every few weeks. They put nonmembers on a list that gets passed around to the missionaries.
Not a problem per say but it has it's own issues. They won't be outright rude to you, as a matter of fact they are more likely to come introduce themselves and invite you to church or a ward activity or to hang out etc. The goal is to encourage you to join the church. If you choose not to they usually won't be rude but a lot of non members have said growing up in highly populated Mormon areas that they do feel left out when a majority of the neighbors and neighborhood are attending church activities that they didn't go to because they weren't interested in joining the church. It can affect your kids friendships if you move here because all the kids going to camp or activities together will bond more and your child may not get as many opportunities. There is also the Mormon influence on things (places being closed on Sundays, extreme liquor laws compared to other places, seminary at local schools etc.) If you aren't Mormon but live a Mormon lifestyle you'll be fine but if you enjoy things that may be they don't do then you'll probably find the culture restrictive (as most non Utah natives bring up in their complaints about Utah)
You mentioned Jobs but did not mention the staggeringly low wages of those jobs in Utah. It is shocking how little the businesses pay their employees and they consider it a "living wage". Very disconcerting to say the least
Thanks for the comment and I completely understand that sentiment for sure, especially as everything has become so much more expense. The narrative that wages aren't increasing must is not true and there are numerous reputable sources for the data. From 2010-2020, wages increased by just under 40% and Utah ranked #9 out of the 50 states over that period (source= U.S. Dept. Of Labor Statistics) and since 2020, they've increased by 18% with Utah ranking #14 over that period. Overall, wages are on the rise in a Utah and Utah is rising in the ranks as well for overall average wage with Utah ranking currently @ #25 in the nation and an overall affordability ranking @ #28 (U.S. News). I've noticed significant wage growth in the big 5 growing industries here and throughout construction and the trades as well... and retail worker wage growth has been almost the worst so for those working retail, it's felt terrible. For anyone living here and reading this, it might be time to ask for that raise if you've earned it too!

@Drew-hu7hb People relocate for SO many reasons and I love people from any state... or country so long as they uphold the common good moral standard of being kind to others. It is ignorant to claim that All people moving from any state are bad or undesired. In fact, less than 20% (1 out of 5) people who are moving to Utah are coming from California and I'll add that there are far more people leaving and then relocating to certain states are doing so for so many reasons and oftentimes it's because they share the values of that new state. Ultimately, our state is growing because it's an amazing place and we cannot stop that and it is completely outside of our control.
I hope that anyone moving here feels welcomed and loved no matter who they are or where they've come from😁

You forgot to mention guns everyone here has a gun. And we have a high Concealed carry rate here. Theres a reason we have low violent crime rate.
Utah is actually almost right on the middle of the pack when ranking all states in terms of data around gun ownership. States like Montana, Wyoming and Idaho are all at or near the top of the lists ranking guns per capita, total guns, gun ownership, etc.

That's an old way of thinking and an old narrative. I meet new people every single day who live here and most are from somewhere else other than Utah and their feedback says very much otherwise

You forgot to mention the huge heroin epidemic that is fueling our homeless issue.
Homelessness is so sad. Utah has a rate of 11 per 10,000 residents compared to the national average of 18. The worst states are on the 2 coasts in California and New York. The word epidemic means that it would have to be widespread, and when only 0.002% of Utahns are homeless and there are approx. 500-600 deaths per year in Utah from Opioids, of which approx 70% are unintentional but caused by drug abuse, I wouldn't even come close to calling this an epidemic. Every single case of homelessness and drug O.D., while tragic, doesn't support this narrative. How would you propose we help these people?

As a licensed agent and the a Fair Housing Act, I can't comment about many things but I will say this: Utah is most certainly a conservative red state, so if that's what you're looking for, that's here. Downtown and closer to Salt Lake City of course, is quite different and this tends to be the case in every major city throughout the US
Clearly not the Realtor I want my family dealing with if politics is a concern. So tired of this trash being the only thing anyone talks about. My wife and I are moving to SLC with high paying jobs and are definitely looking to buy a house around the 500k price range but don't want to deal with politically biased realtors.
