🐐Steps to get to developer settings on Android:
1. Go to settings - about phone - software info - build number
2. Tap build number a few times (it should say something like "you are 3 taps away from being a developer" - just keep tapping)
3. Back to the settings menu, scroll to the bottom and you should see "developer options"
4. Scroll down in developer options to the Bluetooth section
5. Look for "Bluetooth audio codec". Whilst connected to the real headphones this should say "aptX". Anything else and they're probably fake (mine say AAC)

I've tested mines with several devices so far (including an LG G6 in a store) and the APTX didn't worked at all, I've opened a complain against the store that I've bought, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get a refund, I'm so pissed, this things here in Brazil cost like ~ U$$ 225.

You're better off going to Marshall support directly, they can tell if they're real/fake from pictures of the barcode inside the ear cushion part. Thanks for watching ✌️

Hey man. Do you know if they are faking the wired version too? I have one for 1 and a half year. They stopped working one side (they only work in the side they are plugged). I started searching some information and came across your video. I think mine may be fake, but all the things you said I can't use to spot. Mine doesn't have bluetooth, I don't have the box anymore and the spring I pushed it so much that is very large, I bought mine on amazon for $155.95 from "Grey Dealz". Is there anyway to spot if they are fake?
Ah that's tough with the wired ones as they're easier to fake (no Bluetooth tech obviously), however I've not seen anything when I was researching mine so have a feeling it's less common to have fakes of wired.
I'd recommend speaking to Marshall as it's possible they would fix them under warranty (unsure how long warranty is tho) unless they turn out fake. Either way u got a good year and a half out of them so even if fake that's not bad going!
Side note: gotta add that "Grey Dealz" is the dodgiest sounding seller name I've ever heard 😂

Nice video!! I just picked these up from Goodwill for $30!!! My phone showed SBC and I was bummed after I watched your video. I just connected them to my Fiio DAP for validation and they DO have AptX. The point is you might suggest checking the codec with multiple devices rather than just relying on your phone. Take care!

I got today a pair that so far I can already tell 1) don't even have the golden metal winding on the 3.5mm jack wire 2) the L-R indicator plates are black and not gold. Are these sufficient reasons to conclude the item is fake?
Doesn't sound good, but it's possible they are using new parts as been out a few years now. But tbh if not sure, contact Marshall or just swap them for a new pair. Thanks for watching ✌️
I contacted Marshall customer service and I was able to return the headphones to them and they send me a brand new original pair. I bought mine from amazon but when I contacted amazon customer service the headphones were out of warranty. I tried to contact the seller and his response was that I should enjoy my cheap pair of headphones. I was about to give up until Marshall stepped in and offered me a brand new pair. I just had to send the fake pair to them and even they pay the shipping.
Damn, respect to Marshall for that. Amazing customer service. Congrats on the new pair!

Have purchased one from amazon but after 2 weeks of use have noted that :
-the spring around the 3.5mm headphone jack is loose
- the cable going to the headphone (the rounded one) started to be damaged in both side
I was wondering if it was a faulty set but your video confirmed that it was a fake one (the missing Q on Qualcomm wording)

I've got the original ones now, they have MUCH better battery (seriously don't charge them for weeks), better audio quality (although the fakes were actually very good), and the wires don't get trapped under the earcups.
Think my original ones were around £180, but I got them a while ago.
And yeh, they cover the whole ear :)

Happened even to me. The fake Marshall had no AAC nor aptX support. The store (I think in Spain) refund me but they didn't want the headphones back. Then I bought them again, this time at Saturn's in Germany and they had AAC (recognizable with a MacBook) and aptX (developer setting with my Android Sony/LG/Samsung)

@@Gliphyx They let me eventually keep these headphones with no fuss. It was an online store within Amazon. It is scary, I heard from many users that there are even scam Apple products on Amazon. The fake Marshall I had were build extraordinarily well, the sound was ok. SBC has lower quality and is especially with dynamic songs with intense bass/trebles but this is not observable for many users that don't care about sound details so I gave these fake headphones to a friend who is still happy with them

They are probably gaining so much money that they don't care about refunding a few when asked

Are the fakes that people have experienced mainly amazon, I have noticed on ebay, a ton of marshall headphones from China at a small mark down, not sure if these are actually made in China.
Mine came from Amazon, but was a third party seller. Willing to bet the rate of fakes from 3rd party amazon is about the same as eBay sellers. Best to buy from a direct retailer. Of course with Amazon it's super easy to return anyway if you do end up with a fake. Thanks for watching ✌️

Nevertheless, as you said you got a new original pair from Marshall, I wanted to ask how good is your bluetooth connection? (My one sucks to be honest). Also, can you hear a slight constant static noise (is that normal?) while listening to music or watching eg. youtube? (especially when I press the pause button I can hear a slight murmuring). I will be really glad if you could provide me your feedback.
Glad to help! Yes, I do hear a slight background noise when there's nothing playing - I've heard others complain of that but I just got used to it. Bluetooth connection is good for me, except in busy areas like train stations but that's the same with all Bluetooth. Thanks for watching ✌️

Theres no ANC on these ones - this vid was before they released the new model which includes and. As for sound l, honestly the fakes sounded decent but there is definitely an improvement with the real ones. The new version with anc I bet are great, am tempted to sell my current pair and buy the new. Thanks for watching ✌️

Never tried them myself. I like that they're also collapsible, that's a good feature of the Marshalls
Hi I just bought mine as well and ended up here because of troubles with pairing with my LG G6. After they manged to pair with my phone I checked out the aptx just in case and it said ACC. But clicking on it I could change it to aptx, aptx HD and lots of other choices. Don't feel that any other "fake-point" matched with mine, they look real. Are they real or fake?😅
Hm, when you select aptx does it stay on that mode? It was the same on my Samsung - I could select other modes but it would just change back. If you want to be really sure then message Marshall support, they can check the serial number and tell you for sure. Thanks for watching ✌️

It was DarwinStore but since I reported the fake Amazon took their listings down. They're not the only company doing fakes tho so be careful. Of possible buy direct from Amazon, no 3rd party seller or even straight from the Marshall website ✌️

Highly doubt an actual store will be selling fakes but check with the tips in the video and the link in the description. Good choice of headphones u will like them 😁

Is there any difference in sound quality though?
Yes, but it's not massive a massive difference, at least with the fakes that I had which were genuinely impressive quality. The battery life is better on the real ones, phone calls are a LOT better (unusable on the fakes), and some small details are better as well (e.g. the wire doesn't get in the way on the real ones). @@MyMadspirit If you can switch it on and it stays on, then it's probably real. However they should default to aptx if real. With my fakes I'd change it, go out the menu then back in and it would be back on aac so check for that. And thanks for watching :)

Mine were from "Just right!" who since I reported have not been selling them. If possible buy direct from Amazon but if u don't and they turn out fake you'll be able to get a refund just fine. Amazon are pretty good with that stuff and plus side is u will take another faker off the site ;) anyway thanks for watching ✌️

Not really but you open your phones settings and open about phone then click on build number 7 times to activate developer mode the go to developer options then scan down to you find Bluetooth codecs then select all codes or the one you want

I just opened the ones I received from a 3rd party seller on Amazon. It says "MARSHALL MONITOR BT MAIN v1.7" on the right ear PCB, shows as aptX connection, so seems to be a real one. Chips and PCB looks totally different than on the link in that discussion thread...

I got an original pair of these for $150 and within 3 months my left earcup started giving me problems. The coiled cable is faulty. Contacted Marshall and seems like they will be providing a replacement pair but since I stay in a different country I might end up paying more than half the price on the customs for the new one's. Such a big turn off for such an expensive pair of headphones

I tried 2 of these that I purchased from a Best Buy, and they never paired to my Android device. After fully charging the headphones and my device, the headphones would not show up in my Bluetooth list. Same thing when I tried to pair it with a couple of Apple devices. Also tried my friend’s Major II to my device and it paired seamlessly. Shame, I was really looking forward to these headphones.

At first.
The real headphones must be really good for someone to create a nearly exact replica of these headphones. It appears that there are fakes of sever different models. They would not make a replica of something where there is no demand. I checked your videos and do not see a review of an authentic version. Did you ever get an official version?
I did get the real ones and they're great! Reason there are so many quality fakes could be because of some dodgy factory they're using which doesn't take proper control over the stock - it's likely they use some genuine parts in the build and then save on the electronics or certain components. This was a Really Helpful video.... but sadly my 30min old marshal monitor headphones turned out to be FAKE. I just turned 11yrs old and I was after my dad to buy the Marshall monitor headphones finally he bought them 1week before my birthday so they would arrive here near my birthday. It did and after this vid, I saw literally all of the mistakes in my 1 headphone:
- A poor quality pic in front
- Instead, Qualcomm is said ualcomm
- The Brass(not sure gold or whatever are as the Left and Right) were palish yellow)
- Lastly, the spring is no tight
After that, I was so sad since I wanted these and was so excited but turned out to be fake. Tomorrow I will see about the Bluetooth aptX trick to figure out if they are fake since Right now they are charging. I Got them like for 115$ I think. Before I knew these were fake I checked for if the left gives more sound or right on 1 youtube video but it turned out to be opposite to the real signs like when it said left from the Right volume came, I think this is another way not sure if these are another way to spot them... Anyway :(

I wrote to seller and marshall. Seller asked me to prove that they are fake, I just gave them some links (including your video :)), we will see what they say.
When it comes to marshall, They were not helpfull at all. I sent them many detailed photos and kindly asked for help, but they just replied that they cant help me via mail. I asked if not via mail than how? They replied that they wont help me. So, kind replies but completely zero help.
I am really disappointed about marshall customer service. I'm user of 3 different pairs headphones from marshall and other music stuff. It was first time I need their help and didint get any.
Hope at least I will succes with returning these fake monitors to seller...

And the "aptx"what does it mean? I a bit confused
Aptx is just a new Bluetooth type that offers better audio quality, at the expense of slightly worse signal. Signal is only really noticeable when you're in a high wireless area like a train station tho where there's lots of different signals around it breaks up a little. Thanks for watching ✌️

Hi there...I´ve bought a fake pair too on E-bay... the QR code and other descriptions are exactly the same as mine (1702A002533)...QR code... Bar code, bar code number, the cable .....I´ve compared it with one from a store and ...... yes you can see the differences even with the high quality fakes are made off...Bluetooth stopped pairing so the seller will send me a new ones....I will send a mail to Marshall support and wait.....thank you for your sharing

@@Gliphyx I couldn't resist though and opened them up. Looks very different from the photos compared to the fake ones and says "MARSHALL MONITOR BT MAIN 1.7" on the PCB. So seems to be original ones.

@@Gliphyx I just found out that one of the chips is a CSR8645 by Qualcomm, supporting aptX. So seems to be genuine?
