Steve, I would suggest getting a generator cover to put on. It's open at the bottom, and if you put a piece of plastic on the vent side, it would hold the material away from the vent.
As for a cover look for a RV Generator Cover. I have one for my champion Generator. Stronger material usually elastic on the bottom also made to be outside. But you have to be careful covering them because they build up heat and need to have vent space. But you may be able to put a piece of foam to hold the cover away form the vents with it open on bottom and moving should help. Great video
My thought was to only cover it when I hit rain while traveling. I can just turn it off during that time. I have to pull over to put my rain gear on me anyway.
If you have a place around that makes boat covers they can make a custom cover that's water proof. There's many different kinds of material that's water proof and not very heavy just tell them what you need. They can even sew in some tie down straps if you want. If you find a place pull the trailer there with the fridge on it and they can measure it and give you a price.
Make something out of reflectex. It can ride the whole time, it will not only weather proof but insulate as well
Another great video, Steve.....if you accumulate too much more gear, you're gonna need a bigger trailer, and a truck to pull it.....ln answer to your problem, here's an idea that l know will work. l would buy the smallest, and cheapest nylon tent from amazon. Place the tent flat on your work table. Take your cooler, invert it, and sat it on top of the tent. Next, carefully measure and cut the material, adding 2-3" all the way around. Then remove the cooler to another area, reinverting it so that the lid is once again upright. Now we want to form a pocket or channel for a drawstring.....Carefully fold 1" of the material all of the way around inward, and secure with seam tape, or an adhesive of your choosing. Now insert a paracord drawstring, and you're all set. A custom made cover, that is also very lightweight. As a side note, l would probably hit the cover with a couple of coats of waterproofing spray....This would best be done before you make and form the drawstring pocket, while the material will still lay flat. - The basic idea is sound, but the implementation might take a little tweaking. I've started just bringing a couple of contactor grade trash bags with me. They take up little room and the only time I need to cover is when I hit rain.

Tailgate bbq cover or bench top bbq cover there rain proof and cover a larger tailgate bbq about that same size.
I've thought about adding a 12 volt fridge but I seem to be traveling in rain soooo much of the time. I'd have to up my solar and batteries too... might yet. Seems like a great little unit.
Yes, I've thought about it for quite a while. I'm probably gonna end up creating a way to cover it up easily while gearing myself up for rain. Like you I just about always hit rain on long trips. But man is this so much nicer than an ice chest. I really thought it would drain my battery more. But alas, I haven't had it through a Texas summer yet...

as a life long resident of colorado.... Ill be really clear about this. Bears are not a big concern here. we do have them, but i honestly have only seen them about 3 times in my life. (Im 50) raccoons, minks, chipmunks... yes. elk... possibly, deer.. yup. moose..... meh... occasionally. but bears.... not so much. your fridge would be just fine here.
I'm a little overly cautious because I can't just stick a cooler in a car while I'm motorcycle camping. The park hosts are probably over caution for bear safety. Watch this park host telling my about the bear that comes through camp.

How many watts is your solar panels? That looks like a good little refrigerator I've got a 100 watt panel with one battery with an inverter and a 12 volt cigarette lighter hook up and two USB ports. I'm wondering if my 100 watt renogy panel would handle that. Thanks for the video very good.
It's a 160 watt panel. I use a 50 amp hour battery. It charges back up pretty quick.
Did you figure out a good solution for a cover? Would be great to still be able to run it with a cover. On long trips it seems like I always get a day of rain. Thanks for the great video.
The purpose of the cover would be to not let water in the vents. But the vents can't be covered when it's running. I just leave it uncovered. If it starts to rain, I pull over, put my rain gear on, turn the fridge off, cover it with a 55 gallon heavy duty trash bag. Once the rain stops I uncover it, turn it back on and remove my rain gear. It won't hurt for the fridge to be off for a while. It's pretty airtight.
On days when it's going to rain a lot. Maybe start the day with it turned down to zero. Then it would take longer for the fridge to warm up with it off. Just don't open it.

Hay Steve , Tim here garland tx. I like the way that you have decked out the trailer . I have one just like it ( 18 cu. ft .) that I pull with my 05 gold wing . One suggestion for the fridge is a contractor trash bag ( a little redneck ) but it will work and is inexpensive. Drive safe .

How do you charge the refrigerator going down the road ? Could you move it to the interior of your trailer and charge inside of it while traveling ?
The fridge stays plugged into my solar generator battery at all-times when in use.

This model I have is a 32 quart. It doesn't have dual control but they do make ones with dual control. This one weighs 33 lbs.

Yes I keep it plugged in to my solar generator battery to keep things cold.

Hi Steve. How much added weight does this loaded frig put on your trailer tongue?
It's not too much more. With my old cooler I had to add a 10lb bag of ice. No 10lbs of ice needed with this fridge. It all depends on how much food and drink I pack in it.
I offset whatever added tongue weight by moving heavier objects to the back of my trailer.
