Really good! I'm gonna go listen to the rest of your songs.
I love the sheer anger in the last chorus. It's so short but you can _feel_ it. Especially when just before was the sad, defeated genie's verse. This is so good I think my youtube recommendations are going to be so confused as to why I keep playing this over and over again
If i had a nickel for every time i got obsessed with a song about Jeff Bezos, i'd have two nickels.
Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
whats the second one??
@@bigzube_8919 I'm guessing Bezos I by Bo Burnham
Exactly why I came here. After listening to Bezos I and II was like “I need to listen to the serious Bezos song”. 😅
Jeff Bezos looks down at you and your two nickels. He laughs evilly, “silly peasant!”
I love political folk songs like this so much, I have no words
do you know any more political folk songs 👀
@@mueggsy Pat the Bunny has a lot of good leftist/anarchist folk punk!
I feel like I can hear some real fucking anger in the final in the refrain. Its nice.
Every single FUCKING thing except a heart.
Loved it, the seething anger masked in folksy chorus.
This is the absolute most brilliant song I've heard in a very long time. A friend sent it to me and I started listening without knowing the context or what it was about, and it literally made me cry. What an emotional rollercoaster.
Agreed. I heard it without context and then it suddenly hit.
Absurd work of fiction. Why would someone named Jeff, who got more than he could ever need, hoard happiness from others? Next you'd be telling me he wished that others were unable to pee.
I know! This is the most unrealistic thing, imagine a planet with people like that!? Nothing would get done, they'd be so underdeveloped and inefficient
Came from tumblr, this is such a good song from a purely musical perspective, and from the thematic perspective it’s even better
I love how a lot of your songs share this melancholy, but you as a narrator add a tone, a voice, an intention. And I love how in this you start neutral, almost sympathetic, and become angry as the song progress. It's well written, subtle, and very well performed.
You are very good at this :)
I feel like, in the centuries to come, historians will look back and point to a song like this, when trying to capture the feelings of the age.
"...feelings of the rage!!" more like!!
Bold of you to assume we have any centuries left. Thanks Jeff!
And that feeling is entitlement?
Sure.
Like how we feel entitled that elders should be treated well. Entitled that children should have the best. Entitled that are neighbours are treated fairly. Entitled that even strangers are treated fairly.
Because more than anything, humans have this curious expectation that the world be Just and Fair. And if too many social compacts that uphold that illusion are broken, sometimes it all comes crumbling down.
Life isn't fair, never will be.
WOW. I wasnt expecting the twist and started crying. You are an awesome talent. Thank you
That twist hit hard as fuck
...What twist?
@@crazycaucasian9342 the fact he kills the genie. if you didn't realize it was about Bezos at the beginning that would be the moment you realize what the song is actually about.
The fact he can sing in his head voice and his normal voice at the same time is pretty goddamn impressive.
[Lyrics]
Jeff found a genie in a bottle who said, “I can give you anything you ask. You can have your wishes, three, and a million more for free, it's unlimited just set me to the task.”
Well, Jeff thought awhile, said, “I want houses. I want boats, I want fancy modern art. I want tickets to the MET, I want my own private jet, and a rocket into space just for a start!”
Well, the genie waved her arms and made it happen. His every wish bolted from the blue. And folks all over town grew enamored, gathered ‘round, to admire the man who wishes had come true.
They said, “Let's hear it for the man who has everything. By good fortune he was set so far apart. Yeah let's hear it for Jeff who’s got everything. ‘Cause his wishes are only at the start.”
Well, Jeff heard their shouts and he grew worried. He said, “Everybody’s getting in my way.” The genie smiled as before, “You've got a million wishes more, you can even give a bunch of them away.”
Well, Jeff got confused and sorta quiet. 'Til he finally said, “I have just one wish more. I am satisfied, so I wish that you would die, so you cannot grant wishes anymore.”
Well, the genie's eyes got big and sad and shiny. ‘Til she finally said, “Your wish is my command.” And with an effervescent sigh she disappeared before his eyes and no wishes were ever granted there again.
So let's hear it for the man who has everything. By good fortune he was set so far apart. Yeah let's hear it for Jeff who's got everything. Every single f*cking thing except a heart.
Thanks, mate :)
@@Str4tosph3re lol, you got there before I did. Did you approve it? Anyway, thanks for the shout out.
By the way, chordify is great as a first pass for figuring out the chords.
@@ManfredGeorgPhd Oh, are you the one who tabbed it? Rock on! 🤘
I wasn't the one who approved it, no -- found it because I was about to submit tabs as well, only to see you'd gotten there first. 😁
I found this by doing a search after seeing the Reddit post. Sad this isn't the place people are coming to hear this song. I love this, Philip!
Easy way in the future, wait for that splash tag at the end. Says his name 👍
Ditto!
This song got me saddened and impressed at the same time.
A 60s folk protest song about jeff bezos, I love it
Sure, you hear this song and think Jeff is awful. But after listening to it a few time I just feel really sad for the genie who just wanted to grant wishes and make people happy.
That's called empathy, a thing that Jeff lacks
The true test of this song will be when Phillip becomes a genie and how many wishes he chooses to grant. This man is destined for great things.
--wow this jeff guy sounds pretty cool--
Found this through a tumblr link. Loved the song, kinda reminds me of last week when my girlfriend and I were just talking about climate change and getting more depressed by the minute. A bunch of rich dudes are destroying the planet and we the teenagers and young people are aware enough to notice and yet powerless to stop them.
I am just here to comment on this classic before ten thousand more people do. There is one thing Jeff does not have and will most likely never have, the ability to create art that touches another human beings heart. That makes Jeff kind of poor.
He's rich and fulfilled outside
He's poor and empty inside
Yeah, but him being forced to pay taxes would definitely help
I never would have believe that a man who started an online company to sell books would be seen as a villain one day.
@@jojoceda It would, but even if he didn't he chose to go to space rather than feed the entire planet 5 times. He spent 5.5 billion dollars to go to "space" instead of end world hunger. How great is that? Glad he had fun though
@@freedomunrestricted that's what happens when businesses aren't properly restrained, because like Bezos, unfettered capitalism wants to own everything, and everything is a product, even you
The 3 dislikes are Jeff Bezos
folk music speaks to us on a visceral level, and it will never die. this is beautiful.
This is the first song I head from you and it's just so amazing. It tells a whole story about greed and paon
Pain*
I am unable to find the proper words to praise your song. Its about the emotion that it triggred.. You have the capacity to touch people's heart.
Keep up the great work... Great to hear authentic music and lyrics coming from the heart.
King I am begging you to put this on Spotify
SECOND THE MOTION
He’s planning to soon, I believe!
This song is so good, and underrated might i add?
Im calling it, we are witnessing the birth of a classic song!
I listened to this song and "Dear God". I found myself wracking my brain wondering who you remind me of, not in a derivative sense but more of a "feel". Instantly though Woody Guthrie springs to mind. Specifically with how he could be cheerfully melancholy with some of his songs. Either way this was absolutely fantastic and you're music should be heard by many more people.
Thank you so, so much !
I was looking for something to express my thoughts about Jeff after I heard him thank his employees saying that they paid for his trip...
What a little, little man !
Your song will be heard. 👍💞
This song has been stuck in my head all day
The three dislikes where from Amazon "Ambassadors" paid for by little jeffy I'm betting.
Hey, they dont count anymore, like how they hardly count in anything else! ♡ besides as "starving employees"
honestly, couldn't be more glad to share earth with someone like you
This song is so fucking good.
I hope this gets millions of views
This machine kills billionaires
This song has been on my mental loop for almost 48 hours now. It's fantastic. I don't play guitar, but I know people who do, and I'm definitely going to be passing this along.
Just saw this video and just had to check if you had a channel. I hope this video and your channel blows up here on YT!
New hyperfixation, I'll add a couple hundred more views to this song. Thank you much
This song is excellent, the music matches the lyrics *so* perfectly, it creates such a great tone.
This song plucks at so many raw emotions. Keep it up man! Your music speaks to the soul
This managed to be the nicest, most wholesome and prettiest disstrack ever created...
this is both funny and sad, but it's most of all beautifull
we'll be singing this song when the world starts to crumble and bezos is lounging on the moon alone o7 awesome song!
Saw a reddit post of this yesterday, I can now confidently say I'm a huge fan.
Listened 3 times with a new perspective every time. This is genius. Subbed bro
This is why music is so important. This song manages to capture such powerful emotions, and deliver a biting criticism in so few words, but you can still _feel_ the sting of it.
gotta say this gave me chills the first time i listened to this. the emotion in his voice!!!! absolutely bonkers
This is a fucking masterpiece
These are the songs I love, ones with a story, even if it does have a sad ending...
I adore it.
True art! Can't wait to hear what else you've got inside!
I think the more infuriating part is that the metaphorical genie is still alive and more powerful than ever. He can choose to use his wealth for the benefit of society, but instead uses it destructively.
Freakin brilliant song. So glad that Jason Mraz is helping everyone see how awesome you are. (Mraz is one of my favorite artists ever.)
Kid, you are going places... keep doing this... you have a new fan here.
Brilliant! Political folk songs have a proud tradition and important past. I believe they have a bright future as well. Please keep making music!
Fantastic work. Wow.
Coming back to sooth myself after learning he's set to become the world's first trillionaire (that's a million million).
What a banger, this shit slaps
Great song. Subbed here after seeing this on Reddit.
Thanks for this, the song is perfect. You have the soul of a modern day Bard
Stumbled over this video a couple of times on Tumblr and finally had to seek it out. This is a great song! Thank you for creating it!
Dont know why but this feel like it has more passion that the version on spotify. Either way... love it
I feel the same
Genuinely amazing singing voice and lyrics, and a nice little twice too!
Fan-fucking-tastic song. Absolutely brilliant.
That machine kills billionares
I've bought this, I've tweeted this, I've reblogged it, and just this very moment I played for a friend who teared up listening. Philip, you have written *the* most perfect folk song every.
Didn't expect this to make me cry. Can't wait to save it on Spotify whenever you release that.
Now I just need the chords
i literally got an amazon ad before the video played
This song is brilliant. It's filled with real emotion and fantastic storytelling. Like it's literally just a song about Jeff Bezos slander but it's so well done.
Found this through your TikTok, this is amazing
I'm addicted to this song! You are great, Philip!
If i had a wish, I'd wish you would share the chords, so i could sing this gem with my friends at the campfire
This is a really cool song!
I want to listen this around a campfire
It's John Denver with a darker sense of humor. Talent and wit, dangerous combination. Great work!
The poor genie! 😭 Such a great loss!
Liked, subbed and streamed out of time! So glad I discovered you, out of time is great too! Please release this on Spotify!
Basically yup
Absolutely love this, thank you.
This is absolutely brilliant.
The only thing I could wish more from this video is being able to see your other hand so I can learn to play this! I've done it by ear but it's not quite the same chord-wise. Love this song so much
Well this is genius, awesome and sad but true. Leaves you with a broken smile and wish to replay
I love your songwriting, it’s so incredibly beautiful
Just GREAT!!!
This is such an amazing song. The first time I heard it I almost cried I felt so bad for the genie. What a twist. I love the variation on the chorus on the end.
I guess I need to state again, this song is fantastic!
Someone's gotta teach me to play this absolute masterpiece.
Love this! Keep up the good work Philip!
That makes want to cry. This is like a metaphor for everyday society.
Incredible!
This is truly great, good job
Absolute writing genius
That ending really gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. This is absolutely fantastic!! Good job!!
This is amazing. Thank you.
very well performed
This is fantastic
I've listened to this so many times. I love your voice
This is such a perfect song.
excellent!
This song goes. I love it
