I've lived in the Baltimore area for most of my life and it is absolutely surreal to not have the Key Bridge any more. The last time I saw the bridge was on Friday (March 22). I have driven over it countless times (my way to West Marine) and driven the boat under it several times. It has always been a landmark that I look for going down the Chesapeake Bay. There is a point when you can see the Key Bridge (Baltimore), Bay Bridge (Annapolis) and the Kent Narrows bridge (Eastern Shore) all at the same time. Boating and life will be different. My prayers to all involved and my gratitude to all of the first responders.

I've been over and under that bridge a lot of times. It's hard to picture how big It was on TV. I've tied up to the bollards that are there to stop this from happening. Apparently, the ship just vaporized the one it hit. Shocking to see the whole thing come down like that.

Looks a little suspicious like it was done on purpose

They called mayday before the accident however not much detail on why. Seems weird it veered off so suddenly.

The ship suffered a complete power loss. Regained partial power Then lost all power again before hitting the bridge. So, everything here out is speculative but here goes. After regaining partial power that’s when the mayday call went out as evidenced by all the tugs in the area beginning to head for the ship. When partial power was regained, the anchor was dropped (does that ever end work?) and presumably the engine ordered full astern as evidenced by the thick black smoke from the stack (I am not sure if container ships even have reverse gearing or prop feathering ability). The engine orders full astern would explain the divergence toward the bridge as a function of the prop walk versus the forward motion. All in all a terrible accident from what anyone can tell.

@@AdventuresofHappyOurs If they had partial steering I wonder if the plan was to hit the support vs the span in hopes of minimal damage. Tragic in any case but think of it being mid morning and more vehicle traffic that couldn’t be stopped in time.

@stroguy in another video the ship clearly lost power. All lights went out, then one and off a couple times. However had the ship just continued its straight course, even if it lost power, it wouldn’t have struck the support. It clearly turned hard to starboard just a half mile from the bridge straight into the critical support structure.
