It's sad how his music is often underestimated "because it was in a videogame, so it's not really classical music". People don't really realise that those are excellent pieces of their own.
people have no chance to realize it, 'cause video game music doesn't get as much exposure as any other.
I listened to many modern classic composers, but he is really the best of them.
protip: piss people off by playing great music from games and tell them the truth after they admit it's super epic and want to know the title
I'm pretty sure Heroes 3 will stay relevant for a long time. So the music will stick with many of us. In a way this music is heard much more often than other music because of the game.
I'd argue it is even better than a lot of classical music, not all classical music are truely "classical", some are just old...

The fact that he doesn't even have a paper with the notes on to help him play this makes him even more amazing. As if making the music wasn't good enough. He also memorized them all.

After symphonic concert in my city with himself there were two guys presented and applauded that have heard and sorta translated the music to notes. While we weren't told the details, I believe it's true that he didn't write them down according to the fact that Paul himself said that these two did that whole work

This part of the Necropolis theme always gave me, since childhood, that strange feeling that there is always something to lose, that any upcoming time becomes past time in the end. It feels extremely sad but hopeful at the same time. I guess I'm lacking some vocabulary to fully explain this bouquet of emotions.
It was wonderful to hear this music played on a single piano. Thank you for the sweet tears of remembrance.

He was a child prodigy, composing his first concerto at the age of 13, which was actually premiered by the United States National Symphony Orchestra with him as the first piano!
This is weird to watch him play those songs. The music from Heroes 3 fits so well with the game that I never really stopped to think that someone actually composed them. It was as if they had become part of the game already.
Truly a testament to the excellent presentation of the game!

Portalguy1000 I know that. Yet still HoMM4 OST outdid the 3rd game. It's not about "my opinion is importantier than yours" childplay, since I don't want to impose anything. The music in both games is great, but 4th has better quality and much better blending with backgrounds, while certain bits of HoMM3 music required to simply turn down the volume, or they were deafening.
finally find the composer that I have admired since I was a kid. Thank you for bringing me these fairy tails!
After listening to Heroes Orchestra i'm used to these pieces in arrangements for symphonic orchestra with choir, but they are also great when performed on a single piano.

Paul Anthony Romero will always go down in my memory as one of the best musical creators alive along with John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore and many others. I have spoken!

Oh my god it took me a lot of research to find Heroes I themes over youtube, now I even found the guy who actually composed the melodies that are still ringing in my ears regularly even to this day! Amazing, thanks for the upload! I am feeling nostalgic right now, and trying to figure out how to run this very old game on my device :D

He has been playing piano for 45 years now, started at the age of 3 now he is 48. And he started composing HOMM soundtracks in 1994. Its over 20 years, no wonder how he can play a whole hour without a single piano sheet.
What a pity is that he has stopped working for new world computing/ ubisoft... Meh the soul of the series has gone...
NWC sadly went the path of a lot of the good early VG companies. The feel to the HoMM games (or the one tiled MM game) was never quite the same.
I have played for 12 years and my ability is greatly diminished when I have to read sheets. It's much better without them. You can't even read a double hand sheet with bpm gusto and crescent as fast as he's playing. Just look at how he plays necro. It is not humanly possible to follow a sheet like that. It's just used as an instruction manual to get good at a piece. Not very useful after that.

Mindegyik zene egész jó volt a Heroesból. A heroes is ott van a kedvenc játék szériáim között. Örülök, hogy megtaláltam ezt a csatornát is, csak kár, hogy nem igazán aktív. Egész durva belegondolni, hogy már a Heroes 6 is ilyen öreg játék. Sajnos a videójáték zenéket lenézik, mert igazából csak azokra a zenékre fókuszálnak az emberek, amik magukban jelennek meg, pedig ez egy igazi kincs, amit nem lenne szabad elfelejtsenek az emberek. Köszönjük szépen ezeket a zenéket Paul.

At the beginning of this he should have everyone raise their hand as he calls out each game name to see what games everyone has played. Then he'd have a better feel for the room and the ice would be broken faster. Really great performance, loved every second.

Frequently revisiting this video to run in the background while on work. Always getting into the kind of mental state of nostalgic happy even though the music is more sad I would say. Thanks for providing the soundtrack of our youths, truly amazing! A true heroes III fan.

Paul Romero is the best, I really love all his stuff...
Although the small piano with its very limited timbre and the bad tuning of the highest notes must have been a real pain for the Master while performing this incredible and outstanding event (perfectly comprehensible with your experience at the time, as you said: good piano, good tuning and good hammer voicing can do just apparently small, but definitely sensible differences in the end result) I think is a very big opportunity for both music listeners and also game players to see the composer, playing by hands all the music always listened as midi (soundfont) score by the game. He plays magnificently, with passion, the same passion of a gamer while playing Heroes 3 for the first time; and makes his own music without score nor breaks for 53 minutes long.
I say thank you for all the marvellous work done here, with the concert, the video, the pics and the CD version and obviously the Heroes community! I wondered about the possibility to buy the whole recording, still today.

Fantastic video! These songs are forever burned in my brain. I will still occasionally play HOMM 2, 17 years after first playing it. HOMM2 is amazing because new things can always be done in a scenario.
Breathtaking. Is there somewhere this variation of the Tower theme in good audio quality? In general, all pieces performed at this concert must be recorded separately.
I'm sure that a professional artist could have a more informed opinion on this, but from the point of view of a non-musically inclined person, his skill on the piano is epic. Combined with the fact that he composed the music, I am in awe, and I'm absolutely certain that everyone else listening to this then and there was the same.
I am a music lover. Sound engineer. But I always ignored operas ... Until I heard operas from HOMM2 and HOMM4. It affected me so deeply that I began to look for similar melodic parts from operas and separately cut myself for listening. And of course, for many years I have been listening to music from Heroes. Some things from HOMM3 are at the level of masterpieces of classical music, such as “In the Cave of the Mountain King” or as “Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata”. I respect Paul, a very talented composer.

Герои 3 - качественный саундтрек , идеально подошёл к этой стратегии, передаёт атмосферу. Видимо постарались над этим хорошо. Темы замков совершенно различны и неоднообразны.
Что можно сказать далеко не обо всех играх. Во многих играх саундтрех сделан для того, чтоб был и невыразителен.

Wow, opened with the original theme from HoMM1. I knew it sounded familiar, but didn't realize it was from that long ago. Brings back some nice memories from simple times.
The execution of the Necropolis is nothing short of brilliant. I wish this video was in better quality. It's a shame not to be able to hear that performance very clearly.

We made it in 2011 but nowdays we could made it in 1080p or even 4K. Glad that you like it ! As time goes by the technique grows way better and better.

As much as it is part of the Heroes universe, Paul's music is a masterpiece in its own merit. You don't have to play the games to love it, but everyone who played them, knows the music is their essential part. Thank you from the bottom of my heart mr Romero.
