Happy birthday Adrian, the Massy looks well with cover on bonnet, right job for hedgecutter. Watch with Adblue if ur leaving some in a drum, make sure cap is air tight or it could start to cristallise and go off. If ya can always use entire drum. Another option if ur not far from a town with filling station that has bulk Adblue is fill tractor at pump, u'd fill the tractor a lot cheaper than in drums and don't have empty drums to get rid of. I know driving to filling station doesn't suit everyone. Hope u fell better soon, enjoy the cake 🎂 🎉
run pto in 1000rpm, but just at 540 on clock, this will give you a nicer ground speed on tractor, but plenty of power in hedgecutter, easier on fuel as well, as revs not as high, ive been operating hedgecutters for over thirty yrs thhat way, tried the ecomony setting on pto wasnt happy, always on 1000rpm at 540 on clock, found the best

1000 shaft and if u put revs at 1200 aun clock it b running at 540
Just be careful because I have just burned out the motor because I have ran the hedge cutter on the 1000 but apart from that 1000 is better than 540
@@jamiequinn2378 Yes your correct I had to replace a motor aswell for that reason. 1000 speed is to sharp a start for the motor. You probably should start it in 540 and then change it quickly into 1000 before the head stops but that would b too much hassle.
I always run my hedge cutter in the 1000 shaft, it is a very sharp start off even with the tractor idling but you can cut all day on the smell of diesel, my 6270 runs the engine at 800 revs to produce 400 rpm on the shaft which is what the McConnel manual says to run my cutter PTO shaft at.

That model of cutter WILL move round and tuck in behind the back wheel of the tractor. You place the head against a tree, a bank of soil, a strong part of the hedge or any other type of resistance. So that when you drive forward it will compress the big spring normally used to reset the arm if you accidentally drive the head into a solid structure. You basically keep compressing the spring till the arm moves round enough so you can latch it in place using the hook that's beside the top flat brace that goes from the main frame to the tank and then your done that's it folded around into transport position.
The PA 92 will manually fold back for traveling on the road, the 93 is the next model up and as I dont have one I cant say for sure but I would assume it manually folds back to for traveling on the road as well but maybe not. You release the pin on the PA 92 break back slide by giving it a 90 degree turn, set the cutter head on the ground, drive forward slowly and when the break back reaches the stop the pin drops down to prevent the arm coming forward again. You lift the head up and pull her in and away you go on the road with no cutter sticking out the side of the tractor. You have to do the opposite to get her back in again for cutting, set head on ground, release pin by lifting it and turning it 90 degrees, reverse slowly back then lift her up. Its surprising what you can learn by reading the operators manual, they are all available to read for all machines on McConnel's website, the older machines manuals are in the archives section.
Although I like your idea with the gate/post, we have locks on all of our gates. Just because in the early 90s they stole 3 brand new gates of of the posts. Luckily it was in the winter so no animals in the field.. so eversince there are locks on ehm.
A mix of whitethorn, holly and beech or hornbeam would look great, nice solid stock proof hedge in years to come. 😊

Willow & poplar trees can also be used as cattle fodder with increased milk production gained. New Zealand has been doing this for years
It should swing back manually and a hook holdind back there was on a pa95 i used
I have a PA95 and it has the lock back. Took me a few minutes to figure it out alright!
U have to use the T for the quick return. P stands for pressure T for tank return. And ls for loadsensing.

Copper Beach hedge although being the cheapest is thin and doesn't offer much shelter. It loses its leaf come winter leaving very bare. Maybe look at Laurel more expensive but when it takes off its very solid.
You can get barrels of adblue with a small pump on it so you dont have to lift up those containers of adblue.

Mix your trees and hedging, copper beech are great once they get going, mix copper and green and whitethorn gives a nice hedge.

I would plant a holy hedge. It will grow very thick and be stock proof. Thanks for the video
Go for green beech Adrian. The copper is nice but it absorbs all the light when it gets big and will make the place looks very dark. Green beech is the way to go.
I had a pa 95 it had a latch that held break back so it could fold back to go down the road. I think you would get on better with the front hood on flail head opened up to let the hedge into it . And you can get that ad blue piddle deleted off you tractor and it goes just the same

As a farmer, you can make your own ad-blue. It is simply a mixture of high-purity urea (32.5%) and deionised water (67.5%)
Urea used in fertiliser and deionised water can be bought cheaply. Just saying…

Trust me them doors glass do break like a gun going off polley carb 8mm thick fit as best you can to clean both sides clean with turtle wax or cream best to keep the visible and keep oil away as best you can 😂 you can us mesh but there are holes in that idear !!! 😂😊

It should swing around manually and lock in place for transport. Not full around but about 45°. I dont use it on mine much only for going through the town.

Well it's a heavy spring you push against I dont think there's anything to jam it really. Just pivots on two points. I put the head against a tree or something solid and drive slowly forward.
Might be worth sticking the heifer in a house. With the change in temp and weather could be upsetting her abit.

I’ve the same hedgecutter but ours has a catch, leave the head down and drive forward and it goes back 30degrees and it latches into place
Ya the piston that goes up the centre of the breakaway spring on mine has a slight bend in it. Mine won’t go back fare enough to latch in
I have a pa93 and I often wonder if you could put a ram on the hedgecutter instead of forcing it into the locked position
@@richardkehoe142 You can. I have seen it done before. You just replace the spring with a hydraulic ram instead but you need to tee in an acculator. It will allow the oil to compress so the arm can move back if you accidentally drive into something solid while cutting.
where did you get the clear screens that you have over the windows on the tractor ?
mcconnel pa 500 , has power slew and is 3 pl mounted and not as hard to put on as a 93 ......power slew handy for cutting right into corners .......

Hi Adrian, have you tried when driving on lanes and things catching the arm of the hedge cutter on the breakaway, there should be a clip to catch it and that should tuck the head neatly in behind the back wheel and not catch in anything.
Adrian with the add blue, did you open the black cap on too if the drum? If you open that the add blue flows out much quicker

Get tested for covid, I had what I thought was a bad cold ,at the insistence of my wife ,I got a pcr test because I was hosting a farm walk,we were both positive , she had no symptoms were both double vaccinated got over it alright was conscious of passing it on.

does that heifer that is not thriving need a gut probiotic - her gut just has not come back after the stress of getting sick - NZ has a product called BioStart Ruminant so Ireland must have a similar product - do you check the colostrum with a brix metre to ensure that the new calves get 22 or above as there first feed - 30 is the best level on the brix metre for colostrum for good gut health for the heifer calves you are keeping according to the vet and important for the overall health of the calve for the length of its life on the farm
That’s a very good point, we started it on Natural yogurt yesterday. It’s doing very well again. Pro Rumen is also a great oral treatment

No it’s green diesel where we are, Red diesel in the UK. White diesel in commercial vehicles

We don't we use green diesel and white for cars , the clear liquid in the drum was Adblue

I think when you get the real feel of the hedgecutter take off the roller on the head u can cut backwards and cut grass and stuff like that alot easier witjouth getting blocked up
