This is awesome! I've been planning something like this for awhile now. Not much info on UA-cam that includes aquariums only larger ponds. I love this! Thank you! You are gonna have a great channel!
About every 45 days I pull out the sponges a d ring them out in a bucket of tank water. Haven’t had to replace yet. I’d guess maybe every 4/5 months maybe.
My maintenance video is coming next week and ill be breaking the system down more in depth ! make sure you are subscribed AND hit the bell ! Glad you love it I appreciate you !! please share around with friends and family. next system will have a STINGRAY in it !
its just an apple watch with a fancy band lol I always broke them without the super case on it. also it helps with waterproofing which is nice for when I need both hands in my tank

Great question, I believe it would depend on what you are stocking and feeding. In this video I’m using Discus and it was sufficient enough to grow whatever I wanted in a 3X6 bed with a total of just under 200 gallons. In a video I have coming out later this month I’m using African cichlids with much higher stocking volume and bigger/deeper grow bed. Just got done planting. I’ll post my results shortly ! I’d recommend typing some variation of that into search and seeing what other people have come up with.
@@diybyericbarnes thanks for the reply, definitely still researching about it. Have you ever had any problems with deficiencies like iron or calcium? Do you know of any plant fertilizers safe for fish and also safe to use to grow plants for human consumption? I want to start out by just growing some lettuce or spinach but there is so much variation with setups and prices it makes it hard to see what works for a beginner like myself. Thanks again!
@@grante.7525 when my tomatoes were all turning ripe I did add a supplement just to see what happened and then my tomato plant became to big to keep inside so 🤷🏼♂️ haha I did get it at a place called “the bubbling bucket” in Cincinnati. I looked for the empty bottle the past few days as I don’t remember throwing it away. So I don’t know exactly what it was called. I’m sure I’ll dabble into this for my next system because it will be bigger but as of yet I haven’t needed anything.
"There are no bacteria that can eat nitrate" That's mostly true. But if you stop aerating the water, the bacteria will actually work in reverse to get oxygen. Obviously that doesn't help the fish. xD
Actually I didn’t know that ! Great point ! I suppose it’s because I like my fish alive ! Hahah but thank you for the comment I’m going to do some research on that !!
Love the filing cabinet filter system awesome idea mate.
FYI your growing the wrong plants lol
Lol what plants should I grow? For the summer I was doing a decorative pathos plant. It’s totally overrun the system 🤣

Is there a recommended ratio for size of tank to size of grow bed? If so what is it?

Yes this is true that is why you need to watch for anaerobic spots in your grow beds
Bro I got an aquaponics system I just built
