The most overrated horse on the list and of Coolmore's for that matter in my opinion, is Rip Van Winkle. I disagree that he was Sea The Stars greatest ever foe, because I would argue Mastercraftsman came closer to beating him at York in the Juddmonte International than Rip Van Winkle did in the Coral-Eclipse. Something more of a nearly horse to me. Did beat Paco Boy & Ghanaati in the 2009 Sussex but was pretty easily run down by Canford Cliffs in the 2010 renewal. Won a watered down QE II Stakes in 2009 but was beaten by a very average at best Poet's Voice in the 2010 renewal. Won a very good renewal of the Juddmonte International, by far the best win of his career. But both he and the 2nd that day at York, Twice Over, were both galloped bowlegged on there next start at Leopardstown in the Irish Champion Stakes by Cape Blanco. I'm not saying Rip Van Winkle wasn't a good horse, he was. But he wasn't a great horse. Some of his Timeform ratings overhyped how good he really was by a good bit, IMO.
Enough of this Frankel funfair please - failed to venture outside his comfort zone and beat the same horses each race. Vastly overrated. And let’s be honest if Henry wasn’t ill during when Frankel was running this horse would not even be mentioned as a ‘great’! #realtalk #knowledgeispower

Frankel was completely over rated and as Martin said if Henry Cecil wasn't sick when Frankel was running then maybe reporters and presenters might have had the balls to point out Frankel's and his teams many failings. Don't get me wrong he was a super horse in his comfort zone but they were terrified to really test him incase he got beaten. That's why he can never really be called one of the greats.
Its mind bending to think essentially every race horse in the last 300 years has essentially come from three horses.
