This is what I used to love about the 70's. What were deemed as novelty acts could have a successful record and everyone would accept them as being just part and parcel of what made up the charts and go along with the overall frivolity. No-one, (except the few music snobs), went out of their way to dismiss them, and went along with the fun involved, chanting the main chorus line.
but underneath it's well crafted pop so it stands up still whether it's a novelty act or not, written by Mike Batt who also wrote Bright Eyes, someone who can get Art Garfunkel to sing for them must have some talent
We didn't know Jimmy Savile was a pedophile back then, and yes, it was good times for us as we didn't know Jimmy personally thank goodness so he didn't wreck our lives, though finding out what he was like does tarnish things a bit I still think of the great music we had to takes us back to a time when my dad and my grandparents were still alive.
Andrew Dexter. I know. I used to watch Jimmy back in the 90s on Jim'll fix it. He sure did fix it for a few kids lol. I miss the wombles as well. That and the teletubbies
Fond memories of it in New Zealand. Now living in Australia, begun singing it for some reason this morning, had to find and show the video to my partner and daughter to prove I wasn't going mad. Ah, the 70s, great times :)
Still have the compilation album that was given to me around 1974.....great memories of a great time to be a kid and there's NOTHING simplistic about those songs......
I was born in 1970 and used to watch the Wombles growing up. Here I would have been just four and so Play School age. Bernard Cribbins, the voice of the Wombles, has just died at 93!
I’m an American who just discovered the Wombles, through an interview with Mike Batt on the Rockonteurs podcast. I love it, so joyful. If I’d heard this as a kid I would’ve been totally into it!
Back in the day my dad, who was a teacher of English in Germany, brought back a LP with songs from the Wombles from his school exchange travel to the UK. Me and my little sister, both primary school of age, were immediately flashed by this song from our first listen, and from then we played it day and night. Nobody else in our small German town, except from our family, had ever heard of the existence of the Wombles. Thanks for the upload! Brings back my memories ...
I'm 62, and love this, too! Mike Batt has never made a recording that I haven't loved. I never got to see the Wombles in action here in the USA--so glad to find this here!
No internet in 1976...I am flying to Istanbul...the music onboard..yes they made you pay for headsets...anyway...this song came on...I was hooked...this would have hit bit in the US if there was internet at the time...a great fun song!

Hi. I'm Eliot Wien from NYC. I remember when Columbia Records in the USA released Remember Yo're A Womble album. I was a curious kid and purchased the album without listening to it. Remember, we didn't have computers or the internet or UA-cam back then. I was really into this song, and the Beach Boy style Wombling Summer Party song when I played the album. I still have it in my collection, and as I got older, I'm still listening to it today!

I was a big fan of the Wombles. tv series & when they released their songs Mike Batt was the creator of the Wombles. very rare to see the Wombles when they were on top of the pops can't believe that was 50 years ago

Mike Batt's a great writer.. The fiddle hook in this and the brass one in The Wombling Song are both brilliant.
I know about the fiddle, because three years after the song came out, I started to learn the instrument at junior school!
