I bought one because it’s perfect for my situation with kids. I really only have time to play late at night and at that point I don’t even want to leave my bed haha. If it will have a solid connection then I’ll be happy with it. If not, then I hope I can return it.
I'm a dad to a 9 and 7 year old who still loves to sit down and game on an evening. I feel a constant guilt when I'm hogging the living room TV and my wife can't do anything. With this I can game guilt free and my family can still so their thing on the main TV.

This was a Epic video Bill, I will also be buying a PlayStation Portal as well and my use case will be when I'm laying in bed and my wife is watching TV I'll be playing my games and not to mention on a 8" display that's portable. I have a Galaxy Fold 3 which is 7.6" and a cool controller I hook to it but it still doesn't give me the feeling of walking around with a PlayStation controller and a screen. So I'm excited to get one also. And great video!
I don’t like playing on the iPad with a controller in my hand, because my hands will block the screen while in bed. I don’t like playing on the phone because the screen is too small and the controllers are not good enough. Also with iPhone 14 Pro and iPad Pro M2 I still get stuttering every ~5-10 minutes or if the action gets intense using a Google Nest Wi-Fi hub as I’m relying on the devices not to update an app in the background or anything.
If it's not what we want, we trash it, but if it does well...we quietly go out and purchase it. I purchased mine due to all of the hate it has received. I'm excited about it.

I've ordered one for myself for Christmas because I'm a busy mum, I used to be a hardcore gamer. But now my boys hog the TV, my hubby and son are normally watching cars, or wrestling. I'm normally left to handheld gaming, unless I wanna shut myself away in a different room. But I love to sit with my young family.

If remote play itself can solve the disconnection problem when PS5 need a software update (this currently exist and remote play can’t connect until you go back home to be physically with the PS5 to update it). But other than that, solid connection, extreme low latency (my feeling is 20-50ms range) for at least FPS for some PvE content. Then it is the stick drift. Will it be same as Dual Sense ? Or different? But my bet is Sony will use exact same components for the stick to keep cost low. Problem is stick will drift after 500hours and cannot be replaced.
The only thing is holding me back is that it doesn’t have back paddles for remapping!!! I’m a modified controller user and I don’t even use my original dual senses at all!! I just love to remap buttons the way more comfortable to me and sadly, that accesorio fell short on that department!!!
I thought you were Tom Segura LMFAO! I pre ordered mine!!! Now i can play my PS5 on business trips and on vacation without taking my PS5 with me!! I'm not interested in playing PS3 or earlier games. Which seems the be all the fuss, that an not streaming games from PSN... but again they are all old titles. This makes my PS5 portable! You need to be connected to WIFI to play most games on the Playstation post PS3 anyway!! I can't wait!
They are not the same thing. The Portal is not a cloud device. It's a connect to your hardware at home device. They are fundamentally different and how well it works is going to depend heavily on your home network setup.
Insanely excited to get mine, the wait is killing me. Just knowing it's coming is making me hate playing on my phone with a clawed DS4. I never bothered with a claw for a PS5 controller. But regardless i need the bigger screen. Having wired headphones will be a nice plus as well, as it will be more convenient than using my bluetooth buds (i know I'm odd man out on that one, but it's situational.) And you never know, this thing is always just a software update away from being usable with Playstation Cloud gaming if they decide to go that route.
As a parent with kids I had been wishing for exactly a Dual Sense split in half with a good screen in between and I got basically exactly what I had hoped for when it was announced. The kids like to watch morning cartoons etc on the TV at the weekend, so any gaming for me is on hold at that point. Now I will be able to get in a couple of matches of FIFA, a few dungeons on Diablo 4, a couple of races on GT7 or another escape attempt on Hades, all with the haptics. I pre-ordered straight away and the 15th Nov cannot come soon enough!
I've got a backbone for my s23 but u can't wait for the portal. The screen size upgrade alone is worth it for me and the added bonus of the dualsense haptics and adaptive triggers is huge
The biggest letdown is that I don't think it'll able to work without the Ps5 being on. If so, they missed a huge opportunity by letting us turn the console on and off from the portable.
I know that if you’re streaming to a device like your phone, you can turn on your PlayStation from there. You just have to change one of the settings on your ps5 so maybe it’ll work the same way

For me, everythinf will come down to input lag/latency. I bought one since 200 is pretty cheap to take a swing at. I prwfer playing handheld 100x more even when at home so this will be amazing for me if it works well enoufhb
I’m a airport worker and we have a lot of down time between flights so if I can play my ps5 at work using my phone 5g Wi-Fi to stream. But if it doesn’t work I’ll refund or sale

I bought it because I have children. I would like to play baldur's gate cyber punk and GTA at some point. I can't play those on the TV. Also, I'd like to smoke a bowl while I play and I can't do that in the family room, nor am I putting a TV in my room.
Yeah I had the same thought and I bought a steam deck and use chiaki for remote stream ps games ... 6h battery life streaming and I can do anyting with it besides playing ps games....

Or. They shouldve just revived the ps vita with that modified controller keeping the REMOTE play features that doesnt need wifi to connect the two. And that battery issue can be solved by just using a higher capacity. To be honest that new screen controller gimmick is useles without the internet or the console.

Little bummed about no Bluetooth but same thing when the Switch first came out. Plus gaming with my Sennheiser headphones via aux is what I prefer out of all my headphones/headsets. The idea of this seems to be for the household with one tv. What is this, 1980? What household still only has 1 tv? TV are cheap nowadays. Or just get a cheap hi-res monitor. I really don't get the point of this device.
This accessory is clearly not for everyone. Because that's what it is, an ACCESSORY, not a fully fledged (and fully priced) console. So many people would rather have a dedicated device for gaming instead of using their phones/tablets and causing heat ups, degrading battery health and not properly using your phone at the same time (text or call comfortably). For the people who have kids, for people who'd rather share the tv instead of hogging it, for people who take small trips where they know they have stable wifi and for people who'd rather just have a more handheld comfortable experience even in their own homes. It isn't trying to be anything else, like a switch for example, if that were the case it'd probably have storage or internal processing which would increase the size/weight and cost by a lot (Another reason people would complain about). This would make it a standalone console, but it's only an accessory. I can understand why there would be a market for it. If you don't see the appeal, simply don't buy it.

The Bluetooth really bummed me out as it essentially makes it a $300 device if you want earbuds. I am really interested to see how well this works though.
I’m fine with the device volume. 7yrs never once’s used earbuds or headphones on my Switch. I do however play mostly single player games on my consoles. PC for MP.
The real issue is You're at the mercy of the Wi-Fi network you're on. And a lot of people's Wi-Fi situation is not going to be good enough to run this. If it could sync directly to the PS5, that would be a whole other story. Hell, I'd buy one. But Automatically this device is strictly at home use for me. 90% of all the hotels I go to won't even let me connect correctly with my PS5. So the portal would be unusable. I only have one friend with a Wi-Fi network that will be good enough to use it. But forget about streaming from my house. Again at the PlayStation portable could sync directly to the PS5 it would alleviate a lot of problems. Also there's going to be a lot of kids who don't have a PlayStation 5 about to get this for Christmas.

I was hesitant about getting it. I really liked the vita despite its issues. But maybe streaming games isnt so bad. I kinda like having to play on my bed and moving around. If its true that i only need wifi and can access my ps5 half away around the world even, maybe thats not so bad, although i rarely play games outside of my home
Why? I have 3 DualSense controllers. 2 I got in August 2021 with my PS5 and 1 I got when the colors launched. All 3 have zero stick drift. My PS4 controllers also have zero drift and I've had those for many years.

My god there are so many better handheld devices out there. Why buy a handheld that wont travel outside of your house? People can say, "oh this is an amazing device today and tomorrow they've completely forgotten about it". Also, why have it when you jave a whole Playstation there waiting to be played.
The deal breaker is those sticks that gonna drift within a year rendering this thing useless while the option to change them out is already there.. i think for most people paying 200 bucks for a thing thats gonna useless within a year because these damn companies wanting to use cheap ass sticks is a deal breaker! And they are absolutely right! Companies like Sony should be ashamed of themselves! Because they will break! And for the majority the only way to fix it is to send it to Sony over and over! And its unacceptable! And not necessary if they gave us the option to change them out.. or if they finally start using better sticks. I mean last release of a PlayStation Portal was 2009! 14 years later and still can’t design a handheld bluetooth compatible device? We the gaming community need to demand a change. Sony is greedy, they are out to get a huge cash grab and they expect people to buy their garbage headsets… When the device itself should’ve came Bluetooth compatible. Plus most games that I play requires me to be online, which I doubt will be PSP compatible. I’ll most likely sit this one out and wait for a better version.

The only thing is holding me back is that it doesn’t have back paddles for remapping!!! I’m a modified controller user and I don’t even use my original dual senses at all!! I just love to remap buttons the way more comfortable to me and sadly, that accesorio fell short on that department!!!

I thought you were Tom Segura LMFAO! I pre ordered mine!!! Now i can play my PS5 on business trips and on vacation without taking my PS5 with me!! I'm not interested in playing PS3 or earlier games. Which seems the be all the fuss, that an not streaming games from PSN... but again they are all old titles. This makes my PS5 portable! You need to be connected to WIFI to play most games on the Playstation post PS3 anyway!! I can't wait!

They are not the same thing. The Portal is not a cloud device. It's a connect to your hardware at home device. They are fundamentally different and how well it works is going to depend heavily on your home network setup.
Insanely excited to get mine, the wait is killing me. Just knowing it's coming is making me hate playing on my phone with a clawed DS4. I never bothered with a claw for a PS5 controller. But regardless i need the bigger screen. Having wired headphones will be a nice plus as well, as it will be more convenient than using my bluetooth buds (i know I'm odd man out on that one, but it's situational.) And you never know, this thing is always just a software update away from being usable with Playstation Cloud gaming if they decide to go that route.
As a parent with kids I had been wishing for exactly a Dual Sense split in half with a good screen in between and I got basically exactly what I had hoped for when it was announced. The kids like to watch morning cartoons etc on the TV at the weekend, so any gaming for me is on hold at that point. Now I will be able to get in a couple of matches of FIFA, a few dungeons on Diablo 4, a couple of races on GT7 or another escape attempt on Hades, all with the haptics. I pre-ordered straight away and the 15th Nov cannot come soon enough!
I've got a backbone for my s23 but u can't wait for the portal. The screen size upgrade alone is worth it for me and the added bonus of the dualsense haptics and adaptive triggers is huge
It is very stupid because a Laptop, Phone, and a Tablet can do everything this can while still having Bluetooth.

The biggest letdown is that I don't think it'll able to work without the Ps5 being on. If so, they missed a huge opportunity by letting us turn the console on and off from the portable.
I know that if you’re streaming to a device like your phone, you can turn on your PlayStation from there. You just have to change one of the settings on your ps5 so maybe it’ll work the same way

Or. They shouldve just revived the ps vita with that modified controller keeping the REMOTE play features that doesnt need wifi to connect the two. I agree, a real PSP would be way more than $199, less graphics than a PS5 and games will depend on developers. I heard its already a pain for developers to make games for series X and S. Right now PlayStation Portal is a good step in the right direction. If it does well, a dedicated PSP will be in our future for sure. Little bummed about no Bluetooth but same thing when the Switch first came out. Plus gaming with my Sennheiser headphones via aux is what I prefer out of all my headphones/headsets. Biggest seller is a 8" 1080p screen with a split built in dual sense controller that's dedicated to work with the PS5 for $199. They could of said $299 but I'm happy they didn't and I'll take it lol

The idea of this seems to be for the household with one tv. What is this, 1980? What household still only has 1 tv? TV are cheap nowadays. Or just get a cheap hi-res monitor. I really don't get the point of this device.
This accessory is clearly not for everyone. Because that's what it is, an ACCESSORY, not a fully fledged (and fully priced) console. So many people would rather have a dedicated device for gaming instead of using their phones/tablets and causing heat ups, degrading battery health and not properly using your phone at the same time (text or call comfortably). For the people who have kids, for people who'd rather share the tv instead of hogging it, for people who take small trips where they know they have stable wifi and for people who'd rather just have a more handheld comfortable experience even in their own homes. It isn't trying to be anything else, like a switch for example, if that were the case it'd probably have storage or internal processing which would increase the size/weight and cost by a lot (Another reason people would complain about). This would make it a standalone console, but it's only an accessory. I can understand why there would be a market for it. If you don't see the appeal, simply don't buy it.
I’m kinda meh about it. I use remote play on my phone and it works fine honestly. Yes $200 isn’t that much in the grand scheme of things but it’s a lot for something I can already do.

The Bluetooth really bummed me out as it essentially makes it a $300 device if you want earbuds. I am really interested to see how well this works though.
I’m fine with the device volume. 7yrs never once’s used earbuds or headphones on my Switch. I do however play mostly single player games on my consoles. PC for MP.

The real issue is You're at the mercy of the Wi-Fi network you're on. And a lot of people's Wi-Fi situation is not going to be good enough to run this. If it could sync directly to the PS5, that would be a whole other story. Hell, I'd buy one.
But Automatically this device is strictly at home use for me. 90% of all the hotels I go to won't even let me connect correctly with my PS5. So the portal would be unusable. I only have one friend with a Wi-Fi network that will be good enough to use it. But forget about streaming from my house. Again at the PlayStation portable could sync directly to the PS5 it would alleviate a lot of problems.
Also there's going to be a lot of kids who don't have a PlayStation 5 about to get this for Christmas.
Bluetooth is overrated ..... I'll keep my own headphones...

I was hesitant about getting it. I really liked the vita despite its issues. But maybe streaming games isnt so bad. I kinda like having to play on my bed and moving around. If its true that i only need wifi and can access my ps5 half away around the world even, maybe thats not so bad, although i rarely play games outside of my home

I’m looking to buy one my only concern is stick drift.
Why? I have 3 DualSense controllers. 2 I got in August 2021 with my PS5 and 1 I got when the colors launched. All 3 have zero stick drift. My PS4 controllers also have zero drift and I've had those for many years.

The deal breaker is those sticks that gonna drift within a year rendering this thing useless while the option to change them out is already there.. i think for most people paying 200 bucks for a thing thats gonna useless within a year because these damn companies wanting to use cheap ass sticks is a deal breaker! And they are absolutely right! Companies like Sony should be ashamed of themselves! Because they will break! And for the majority the only way to fix it is to send it to Sony over and over! And its unacceptable! And not necessary if they gave us the option to change them out.. or if they finally start using better sticks. And then we didn’t even talk about the fact that they will definitely discontinue this thing within a year or 2.. making impossible to deal with the drift issues. Within a year this thing will be a 100 bucks! Mark my words. I have the same issue with the edge.. 50 bucks more expensive then the elite and not even half the quality.. the battery on my elite goes for 20 plus hours! What the hell kind of cheap ass china knock off parts does Sony use? The edge I tested barely had 5 hours of battery and the one my friend has barely 7 with everything turned off. We opened the thing up.. and the battery is so much worse then the one in the elite! Why? You ask more money for the damn thing.. but cheap out on literally everything!

I get it how you think or look at it as a accessory... But it’s really a new device 😂 and the deal breaker which would’ve sold this out instantly is if it was Bluetooth compatible. I mean last release of a PlayStation Portal was 2009! 14 years later and still can’t design a handheld bluetooth compatible device? We the gaming community need to demand a change. Sony is greedy, they are out to get a huge cash grab and they expect people to buy their garbage headsets… When the device itself should’ve came Bluetooth compatible. Plus most games that I play requires me to be online, which I doubt will be PSP compatible. I’ll most likely sit this one out and wait for a better version.
